Sharp’s 5.5-inch and 10.8-inch Galapagos tablets hit FCC
I mentioned last week that Sharp was set to bring its pair of Android tablets under the Galapagos name to the US. We all know that the first step to bringing any gadget that has wireless communications gear of any sort inside is a stop at the FCC for the needed approvals for the US market.

Sharp Galapagos tablets headed to US early in 2011
Back in November, we caught word that the Sharp Galapagos Android tablets would be hitting Japan in 2010. That didn’t happen, but the good news is that you won't need to wait long to get the Galapagos tablets if Santa didn’t get you an Android device.

The Sharp IS03 is known for it's "Retina-like" display (960 x 640 resolution), but now it can be known for something entirely different, Lady Gaga. Android au has just released a series of ads for the device to be aired on Japanese TVs and with it comes a whole lot of Poker Face.

Ameri-Smartphone Moon over Japan – Sharp Corporation to Release Galapagos Android Devices
So you're walking around a city in Japan, it's about five or ten years back, what do you see? Japan-born electronics as far as the eye can see. Now you're in that same city, it's 2010 - what do you see? iPhones. Tons of iPhones. And what else do you see a spattering of? Android-based phones. Just a spattering, but they're on the rise. In a country known as the Galapagos Islands of mobile phone markets for their wonderful and varied selection of devices and systems, a new wave is cresting, a wave of American-made mobile tech - and app developers are in the mood for surfing.

Sharp IS03 sees 450,000 Japanese pre-orders
Sharp's IS03 has reportedly set new pre-order records for Android devices in Japan, with over 250,000 bought online ahead of the smartphone's launch on KDDI. Meanwhile, in-store pre-orders are believed to be in the region of 200,000. The online pre-orders alone make the IS03 five times more popular than the Samsung Galaxy S or Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 in Japan. The figures come courtesy of market research analyst Kei Shimada. The IS03 is notable for its Retina Display-matching 960 x 640 resolution display and a 9.6-megapixel camera. [via Twitter]

Sharp planning glasses-free 3D phones for US, India & China in 2011
Sharp has put its 3.8-inch parallax-barrier glasses-free 3D display - as previewed at IFA 2010 - into a trio of Android smartphones, and as well as the Japanese launch kicking off next month, the company also intends to bring the technology to the US, India and China in 2011. In December, the Sharp GALAPAGOS 003SH and GALAPAGOS 005SH will each arrive on Japanese carrier Softbank, as well as the Sharp LYNX SH-03C on NTT DoCoMo. Each will support multitouch and 3D visuals; it's unclear whether Sharp will launch the same devices in the overseas markets, or put the parallax-barrier display into different phones. Sharp IS01 Pocketables Unboxing
It's what Pocketables calls a "much-needed and highly refreshing addition to the market." Sounds good to me. This is the Sharp IS01, complete with a 1GHz Snapdragon inside, clamshell housing, and a 3G connection (as long as you're inside Japan.) It's got Wifi capabilities, a unique size and form, and costs less than $250 USD if you buy it from Conics. Jenn K. Lee presents a lovely unboxing of this diamond in the rough (maybe!)

NTT DOCOMO Unveils Three New Android Phones, Coming Soon
NTT DOCOMO, over there in Japan, has just unveiled a plethora of new devices for their network, and while there's 28 to choose from, only three of them are worth mentioning on the Android front. The three new handsets feature plenty in the hardware department, but there's only one of them that will launch with Android 2.2 under the hood, while it's only one other that even mentions upgrading to the newer version of Android in the first half of 2011.
