Sharp kills Galapagos 5.5 and 10.8 tablets, 7-inch version inbound

Sharp has announced that it has ended the production of the first two Galapagos tablets, the 5.5-inch and 10.8-inch versions. Sharp isn’t killing the line though, it still has plans to launch a 7-inch tablet. The two killed Galapagos tablets are no longer available to order. I would assume that means that there is no more stock on them since presumably Sharp would want to move all that inventory rather than just stop taking orders on them.

Sharp RW-T107 Android 2.3 Gingerbread Tablet with NFC

The folks over at Sharp have announced a new NFC enabled tablet headed for Japan. This will be a 7" Android tablet but initial reports are claiming we will only have Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board here, no Honeycomb for now. A big part of the release is the full support for NFC interaction with support for Japanese FeliCa cards at the start, but we can expect additional cards in the near future.

Maybe I should say fail instead but then again Yahoo is the biggest search giant in Japan, not Google. What we have here are a few reports that over in Japan Yahoo is planning to release an Android phone with a nice custom user interface skin and geared at you guessed it -- Yahoooo!

The country has a huge Disney character following, and now they're being treated to their own device, along with some perks. The device will be shipping with Android 2.2 and will be the first smartphone that will ship with exclusive Disney features such as wallpapers, widgets, and applications. Unofficially announced, the phone has specs that are near identical to the Sharp Galapagos 003SH - which include a 3.8-inch touchscreen, no-glasses 3D, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, and a 9.6MP camera. To make the deal even sweeter, users will also be granted access to an exclusive @disney.ne.jp email address as well as the ability to choose one of the cases below. [Via MobileCrunch]
