NASA PhoneSat sending Nexus One, Nexus S into space
It's been a big summer for NASA. A few weeks back, it landed the Curiosity rover on the surface Mars, and it announced earlier this week that we'll be going back to Mars in 2016 - this time to find out how the Red Planet evolved. But NASA's upcoming plans don't all have something to do with Mars as some of them, like PhoneSat, will be playing out much closer to home.

Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update arriving tomorrow
We have some potential great news for all those still rocking the Google Nexus S. At Google IO last month Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was listed as coming to the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S in mid July. Now that the Galaxy Nexus already started receiving it last week, it's time for the Nexus S to enjoy that butter smooth Jelly Bean too.

Baidu-branded custom ROM available for Nexus S
For the uninitiated, Baidu is sometimes considered the "Chinese Google", starting with a powerful (and relentlessly censored) search engine and expanding into things like email, maps and even mobile services. Now the company has taken it one step further, releasing a complete ROM for the Nexus S, replacing all of Google's services with their own. It's kind of like some of the Bing-branded Android phones Verizon has released, only creepier.

Rumor: Nexus S Ice Cream Sandwich update restarting soon
We got quite a response when we noted that owners of the Samsung Nexus S were more than a little upset that the official Ice Cream Sandwich update was months overdue. Now Engadget claims an anonymous source saying that Google intends to sestart the long overdue OTA software process in "the next few weeks". Take it for what it's worth (and without a confirmed cource, it isn't worth much) but it's at lest a ray of hope that those who paid for Nexus hardware and timely software will finally get their money's worth.

Samsung Nexus S users still angry at missing Ice Cream Sandwich update
It's been almost four months since Google posted the first open-source code for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. A month later the official ICS update began rolling out to owners of the Samsung Nexus S, Google's developer phone that was less than a year old at the time. Almost immediately Google pulled the update, citing battery and WiFi issues. Three months later, there hasn't been a peep out of Google on the status of the update - which is small comfort to owners of the Nexus S CDMA variant, who haven't seen any update at all.

Android Community Evening Wrap-Up: March 7, 2012
Today wasn't as big in Android news due to a certain event, but we still have a significant round-up ready for tonight. Earlier on this morning, we stumbled across a Sense 4.0 port to the Samsung Nexus S. It's rather uncommon to see Sense ported to any other device that didn't originally ship with it - so seeing it on the Nexus S will be refreshing to fans of the slick UI.

Nexus S gets a Sense 4.0 port: worlds are colliding
Believe it or not, not all the skins and additions made to Android are bad - Samsung's drop-down power menu and HTC's multi-talented unlock screen come to mind. There are those who prefer HTC's Sense UI to stock Android, and for those Sense 4.0 is certainly something to look forward to. If (by some chance) you're a Sense fan who currently owns Samsung Nexus S, you can try out Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.0 right now, courtesy of XDA Developers member swamp goblin. Currently the port is in a pre-alpha state, meaning it's about as buggy as a week-old BLT on the sidewalk.

Samsung to produce flexible AMOLED displays in 2012
We had known that Samsung would be producing flexible AMOLED displays in the future, but had no idea on a definite timeframe. Samsung Mobile Display has just confirmed that they will start mass production of flexible screens this year. More specifically, the first set of screens should start production in the second to third quarter, where the second production line will commence second quarter of 2013.

Official CyanogenMod 9 nightly ROMs ready for Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and XOOM
At long last, the first officially blessed software for CyanogenMod 9 is available! The CyanogenMod team has been working hard since November to get Ice Cream Sandwich builds ready, and nightly ROMs for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola XOOM are ready for download now. Heat to the CyanogenMod ROM repository to download them now. For the uninitiated, "toro" is the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, "maguro" is the international HSPA+ model, "stringray" is Verizon's Motorola XOOM, "wingray" is the WiFi-only XOOM, "crespo" is the Nexus S GSM version and "crespo4G" is the CDMA Nexus S 4G.

Google clarifies CDMA debacle: still supporting developer phones, not publishing AOSP code
After a firestorm of controversy late last week, Google, Verizon and a lot of others caught flack for apparently abandoning support of the CDMA flavors of its developer devices: the Galaxy Nexus and Motorola XOOM on Verizon, as well as the older Nexus S 4G. After the devices disappeared from the listings on the Android.com developer portal. The only thing remaining for any CDMA device is the early builds for the Galaxy Nexus, and those are marked  as "for reference only". This led to speculation that Google had halted support for said devices, and in a way, they have.
