Samsung Galaxy SL GT-I9003 ditches Super AMOLED for Super Clear LCD

As predicted, Samsung has quietly unveiled the Galaxy SL GT-I9003, a Super Clear LCD version of the existing Galaxy S. The new model keeps the Galaxy S' 1GHz Hummingbird processor, Android 2.2 Froyo OS and 16GB of onboard storage, but swaps out the Super AMOLED display. Although Samsung hasn't confirmed it, the exchange is believed to be to preserve stocks of Super AMOLED for its newer devices; the best-selling Galaxy S is due to be replaced at MWC 2011 in a week or so. Right now it's being listed on the Samsung Middle-East site, but there's no telling whether other regions will also get this alternative model. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Samsung Galaxy S2 teaser stars an FX blooper [Video]

Samsung knows you like to get teased, and so they've a brief teaser commercial for the Samsung Galaxy S2 to whet your appetite ahead of MWC 2011. The video suggests that there are 10m secrets in the world, and that Samsung's new smartphone is the ideal way to share them. Unfortunately, as Engadget spotted, Samsung has also let slip a secret of its own, thanks to a lapse in quality control in the video effects. One scene fails to flash out the device's reflection (as you can see above); question is, has Samsung actually used a real Galaxy S2, or are the models all just handling generic devices? Samsung’s Galaxy S2 to have dual-core Orion CPU, 8MP camera, NFC & more?

Further details on Samsung's incoming replacement to the Galaxy S, the colloquially named Samsung Galaxy S2, continue to emerge ahead of the smartphone's expected launch at MWC 2011 next month. According to Korean site NocutNews, the Galaxy S2 - internally codenamed "Seine" - will use Samsung's dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 "Orion" processor and run Android 2.3 Gingerbread with 1GB of RAM. There's also supposedly a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display running at WVGA resolution, an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p HD video recording, and NFC, all in a smartphone tipped to be just 9mm thick. That fits in broadly with previous rumors, certainly, and leaves us particularly excited for Samsung's MWC 2011 press event on February 13. [via SmartDroid]
