AT&T, Verizon, update Samsung devices to Android Lollipop

And the Lollipops keep on coming. Two more US carriers announced that they are bringing the latest Android update to several Samsung devices. AT&T said that the Samsung Galaxy S 5 Active and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha will start receiving their updates starting today. Meanwhile, Verizon also announced that they are bringing Android 5.0 to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 after rolling it out to other OEM's devices the past few weeks.

Samsung to discontinue Galaxy Alpha, focus on mid-range

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha smartphone found more than a few buyers who liked the design of the device despite the high-end price tag. A report has surfaced out of Korean that claims Samsung is discontinuing the Galaxy Alpha smartphone. Rather than selling high-end devices like the Alpha, the report claims Samsung will focus on mid-range devices.

Samsung announced they are releasing a limited edition leather back Galaxy Alpha, making one of their best-designed smartphones even more beautiful. This is a collaborative project between the OEM and French design firm Free Lance, with the design provided by Jean-Baptiste Rautureau, best known for his leather shoe designs.

Its approval by the Chinese certification body means that it should be pushing to market pretty soon, and that we’ll be getting an official announcement any day now.

Metallic Samsung Galaxy A5 gets a Chinese release

We knew it wouldn't be long before Samsung tries to take its new metallic, unibody devices to other markets and it seems that one of its first stops is in China. The Galaxy A5, more formally known as the SM-A5000, has just landed on Samsung's Chinese web front in an attempt to bring a slightly familiar design (resembling some competitor's device) to a market that is increasingly getting dominated by Apple and Xiaomi.
