Kyocera's latest smartphone, the rugged and waterproof Torque, we have some good news. After initially launching with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, to our disappointment, this week they'll be updating the capable little device to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The update is slated to arrive on Friday, July 5th over the air.
AT&T and NEC have announced a device for those needing a rugged smartphone. One perfect for the BYOD market. It's for both work and play, according to NEC, and blends Android and a Blackberry into one oddly shaped smartphone. It's a rugged and military spec smartphone, and even has those Push-to-talk features some still love.
teasing yesterday afternoon and as we had been expected, the carrier has come forward with an announcement for the GALAXY S 4 Active. And in a bit of good news, this announcement included a release date and a price as well as a pre-order availability date. In short, those interested will be able to move forward with a pre-order beginning on June 14th.
GALAXY S 4 Active earlier in the month and at the time it was said the handset would be coming to the US market sometime this summer. There wasn't anything specific in terms of which carrier, however since then we have seen a rendered image leak which showed the Active with AT&T branding. AT&T has yet to offer an announcement, however it looks like that will be coming tomorrow.
Galaxy S 4, has been officially revealed, capable of surviving underwater as well as in dusty, bumpy conditions. Based largely on the S 4's specifications, though with a few notable changes, the Galaxy S4 Active has a 5-inch Full HD display though uses TFT LCD rather than AMOLED, while the rear camera steps down to 8-megapixels from 13-megapixels.

As of today however, coming by way of another image leak, it looks like the handset will be launching as the Kyocera Hydro Elite. While this does not mean the handset will magically be sporting high-end specs, it may be of interest for those looking for something rugged.
LG has officially unveiled one of their truly first fully waterproof and dustproof smartphones, the LG Optimus GJ. All the details regarding this new handset were revealed in Taiwan, although we don't expect it to be headed to the states anytime soon. Just like Samsung's GALAXY S 4 Active, LG's flagship device (from last year) now has one too.
Kyocera has been showing a pair of smartphones during CTIA, both of which will be coming available for those in the US market. These are both rugged devices and will be arriving as the Hydro XTRM and the Hydro EDGE. We spent some time with each of these handsets during the show and even managed to get them in some water. Of course, we also played with the Kyocera Torque not that long ago and did the same.
Kyocera has announced their latest rugged smartphone. This time around the handset is called the Hydro XTRM and it will be heading to US Cellular later this week. Specifically, US Cellular will have the Hydro XTRM available beginning on May 24th. The price should be affordable for most, however the key here is with the handset itself -- the rugged features and overall design.
