Reminder: Rooted Devices Can’t Watch Rented Movies with New Market
Yesterday Google unveiled the new Android Market and just about as quickly as we all heard the news, it was leaked to the interwebs and we all jumped on it and tested out the new Market. If you've yet to try the new market download it here. It brought some exciting new things such as movie and book rentals as well as a fresh new user interface. In case you forgot though, this is a reminder that rooted devices cannot watch rented movies so don't waste your money.

HTC EVO 3D and Sensation 4G Temp-Root Available
Those developers over at XDA and other popular development communities are at it again working hard to bring us the things we need, things like temp-root for the HTC EVO 3D and the Sensation 4G. Earlier the group TeamWin found an exploit and were able to achieve root access. Now those nice guys are letting everyone else join in on the fun while they keep working.

TeamWin Has Now Rooted the EVO 3D
We just found out about the exploit this morning that TeamWin was working on and it looks like it didn't take those smart devs very long because according to the latest tweet by Kevin Brucket as @agrabren he has now rooted two EVO 3D's and one of those had the latest OTA update so both are looking pretty good.

Android Market movie rental service being blocked on rooted devices
This is a surprise to read and hear. From Google, Team Android, and everything being "open" this sure looks to be a little different. Obviously Google makes all the rules, and we talked about that in the Skyhook case, but this latest bit of news comes as a bit of a shocker. All we have is a comment on a Google Support page so this may not be completely true, hopefully its not.

Samsung Infuse 4G rooted via SuperOneClick
Well folks it is just that easy. As always the wonderful developers from XDA have done it again and now the brand new Samsung Infuse 4G from AT&T has been rooted with a single click. It doesn't get much easier than that. Using the ever popular SuperOneClick method you simply run the program on your computer, and you are rooted. More details below.

NOOKColor humming on Gingerbread thanks to CyanogenMod7

NOOKColor humming on Gingerbread thanks to CyanogenMod7
The flexibility of the Barnes and Noble NOOKColor shows itself again as the Android eReader has been rooted to become a full-on Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) tablet. The mod, based on CyanogenMod7, has completely wiped out the BN ebook reader overlay and has also overclocked the NOOKColor's 800 Mhz processor in order to get it run smoothly. The only real issue appears to be a hardware limitation, since Gingerbread requires multiple hardware buttons and the NOOKColor only has a single button plus volume controls. But other than that, the NOOKColor is humming along rather nicely at 1.1 Ghz speed.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 deal at Best Buy

Acer Iconia Tab A500 deal at Best Buy
Best Buy is featuring the Acer Iconia Tab A500 in their weekly sales circular and at a pretty good price, too. The Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet is on sale for just under $450, cheaper than Motorola's XOOM, which is selling for around $600, WiFi only. It's also available now at that price, while the slightly cheaper EeePad Transformer (at $400) won't be out for another few weeks. And with our earlier report that users can root the Iconia (with a step by step guide included), the time is ripe to ask the question ... why wait?

T-Mobile Sidekick 4G root already discovered

T-Mobile Sidekick 4G root already discovered
The T-Mobile Sidekick 4G has only been on sale since Wednesday, but that hasn't slowed down the rooting masters at xda-developers. They've already come up with a root for the messaging-centric smartphone, opening the door to custom ROMs and other juicy hacks. The root is the handiwork of "josby", but according to other xda members there are several ways to hack the Sidekick 4G. Next up is stripping away some of the preinstalled apps T-Mobile load onto the handset, which may give it an extra turn of speed. We found the Sidekick to be something of a unique proposition among Android devices, doing a darn good job of following in the footsteps of its unusual predecessors and differentiating itself for a pretty specific market. More on the Sidekick 4G in the full Android Community review. [Thanks Kenny!]
1) enable debug USB mode on your phone 2) install Samsung drivers for the phone - right now Samsung's site seems to not have a choice for the Sidekick 4G's model (SGH-T839), but I grabbed the drivers for the Vibrant (at www .samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SGH-T959ZKDTMB) and they worked. 3) get adb shell working on your PC (Google it) 4) download the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin and Superuser packages from the links in this page: wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Hero_%28CDMA%29:_Full_Update_G uide (be sure to unzip the files into the directory where your adb.exe program is unless you've put it in your path) 5) reboot your phone and plug it in 6) adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp 7) adb shell 8) cd /data/local/tmp 9) chmod 755 rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin 10) ./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin 11) wait until you get booted back out to your DOS command prompt 12) adb kill-server 13) adb start-server 14) adb shell 15) you should now be at a # prompt. The first few times I tried, I wasn't - I was at $. Doing this from a fresh boot seemed to be the trick. Reboot your phone and try again if you're getting a $. 16) mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system 17) exit 18) adb push su /system/xbin 19) adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su 20) adb push Superuser.apk /system/app 21) adb shell mount -o remount,ro /dev/block/stl9 /system 22) exit 23) reboot the phone then run an app that requests root, such as Root Explorer, to verify

GingerBreak (root for Gingerbread) app
OK guys, this is fresh off the press and pretty new. Although the exploit has been extensively tested to be fully working, this app hasn't yet. We got word about this being finally released (thanks @simms22) this morning and we just have to share it with everyone. This is an easy app for rooting Gingerbread, comes to us from no other than the XDA Forums. Check out below for more info.

Motorola Droid X Gingerbread 2.3 OTA already rooted
That was fast, before most people even got the OTA for the Motorola Droid X to Android 2.3 that we mentioned yesterday it has already been rooted by none other than TeamBlackHat. @P3Droid has already posted pictures on twitter of the About Page and superuser permissions being accessed. Cool!
