GM app scans license plates, gets driver’s phone number

Scared of having your phone number accidentally spread over the Internet? That may be the least of your worries if GM's new app and system ever takes off. The app, called DiDi plate will let anyone, with the right app of course, take a snapshot of a car's license plate and get the driver's phone number, opening him or her to a world of hurt from unsolicited messages.

PaperFold foldable epaper smartphone prototype comes to light

What if you had a smartphone that used power-saving e-ink display panels? What if you could attach and detach other similar panels, and fold them this way and that, and the smartphone interface would adjust accordingly? This is exactly the proposition that is being put forward by the Human Media Lab of Queen's University with a prototype of a smartphone, if you could still call it that, called PaperFold.

Samsung Galaxy Round tipped as publicly available prototype

Following rumors of a Samsung Galaxy device with curved display, there was an official announcement for the Galaxy Round. The handset has what Samsung refers to as a 'roll effect' which basically means the handset can be tilted to the side. The unique aspect here, instead of simply rolling back and forth, when you roll the handset the display will activate. But while this sounds like a neat feature, it may be one not seen by many.

HTC EVO 3D LTE prototype leaks in video

Hot off the news yesterday that HTC will be releasing an HTC EVO 4G LTE for the Now Network later this year we now have something even better, if you like 3D of course. A prototype has been spotted of an unknown HTC device with dual cameras, but this is most likely the successor to the EVO 3D. We'll be calling this the HTC EVO 3D LTE for good measure.

Toshiba 13.3 inch quad-core tablet photos revealed

While we had a blast in Spain during Mobile World Congress and even enjoyed a look at a new 7.7" Toshiba tablet with the NVIDIA Tegra 3 we never managed to see this slate. Over at Pocket-Lint they have just snapped a few photos of a brand new 13.3" prototype Tegra 3 quad-core tablet from Toshiba at a conference in the UK. It's amazingly thin and looks quite beautiful. I'm just not sure what I'd use something that large for.

Fujitsu Tegra 3 13.1 megapixel prototype hands-on

Quad-core is the name of the game at Mobile World Congress 2012, and the standard is Nvidia's new 4-Plus-1 Tegra 3 system on a chip. While the device itself isn't quite ready for prime time yet, Fujitsu is showing off a new Tegra 3 Ice Cream Sandwich phone with some tricks up it sleeve, namely an incredible 13.1 megapixel camera and a waterproof design. Officially designated "quad-core prototype" for the time being, expect to see something similar coming from Fujitsu sometime this year - though probably not outside of Asia, at least at first.

Toshiba 7.7-inch prototype quad-core tablet hands-on

And you thought Toshiba's super-skinny Excite was... uh... exciting. Get a load of this 7.7-inch version of the hardware, with the all-important (and seemingly ubiquitous) addition of an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. The beautiful little tablet is code-named the AT270, and in addition to the processor it sports a full 1280x800 AMOLED(!) screen, 1GB of RAM and - wait for it - Ice Cream Sandwich. This one's obviously in the early stages of development, but shows a lot of promise already - we'd be very surprised if it didn't reach retail shelves at some point this year.
