Photon 4G

Motorola Photon 4G Review

The Motorola / NVIDIA tag team continues to bust down doors and open up the options for strange new journeys on Android devices - desktop mode, docks galore, and the kickstand that turns your diamond-shaped Photon 4G into the world's most excellent desk clock. We've got the actual handset here, plus the HD dock, plus the car dock, all of them the standard editions you'll be purchasing in the store very soon from Motorola. If there were a predecessor to this device, it's the first dual-core device from Motorola, that being the ATRIX 4G that came out earlier this year with very similar dock accessories and very similar functionality. While it may seem like one's first inclination to compare this device to the ATRIX, we're already on a whole new landscape with more dual-cores on the market than we know what to do with. The ATRIX still sells off the shelf, especially with it's new cheaper price [$99 at AT&T today] and upgrade to Gingerbread - will the Photon add up?

Update Atrix to Gingerbread, Get an Unlocked Bootloader

One more step, just one more step is all you need, and Motorola's claims to be moving toward an unlocked bootloader environment for all of their devices will become a reality for you. The folks over at BriefMobile have discovered a way to access an utterly excellent situation for your hacking delight - after you've got one of the leaked early builds of Gingerbread, that being Android 2.3.3 for the Motorola Atrix 4G, all you'll have to do is jam the traditional command “fastboot oem unlock" and BAM!

Motorola PHOTON 4G Hands-On [Video]

If you happened to miss our last few posts you would have noticed we've been hanging out at the Motorola Event today in NYC. They announced some exciting new devices coming soon. A few of those are the Photon 4G, the Titanium, Triumph, and the XPRT. It was a busy day here in NYC but right now I'm here to show you the Photon 4G and its awesome kickstand. The Motorola Photon 4G has a unique diamond-like shape but under the hood it has all the features you'd want and love in an android phone.

Motorola PHOTON 4G Announced

This is the powerhouse that eclipses Motorola's last big gun, that being the ATRIX 4G. With a name like PHOTON it certainly better be doing some eclipsing, and it will with a selection of Motorola factory-made accessories, a rather unique diamond-shaped form factor, dual cameras, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and a 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor from NVIDIA. Does that mean I'll be able to play all my favorite Tegra Zone apps? Why yes, that is what that means. While this phone isn't quite the first to the market with any one of these specs alone, together this is a whallop of a dual-core "4G" device to be sure.
