Opera Mini

Browse the Internet in night mode with Opera Mini

You've read the articles, the memes, the warnings that reading on your smartphone or tablet at night is harmful to your eyes, to your sleeping habits, and to your health in general. But for some, just before going to bed is the only time to catch up on social media news, articles they might have missed, reading books, looking through pictures, etc. Opera Mini has come up with the solution to help out your eyes out while still keeping your bedside gadget-reading habit intact: night mode.

Opera browser update: sync mobile and desktop

While most people use either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox (and hey, some are still loyal to Internet Explorer!) as their default browser for both mobile and desktop, there are also some out there that have a small but loyal following. Opera is one of those secondary apps which started out as a mobile alternative to the main browser powerhouses, but now has 300 million mobile users and 55 million desktop users. The latest update now gives you the ability to sync between devices.

Opera Mini for Android gets updated

The Opera Mini for Android has just been updated. The web browser has been available for Android devices since 2009 but it's receiving a lighter look and feel just before the year ends. This could be Opera's response to Material Design but it's actually more of a transition to a more lightweight browser for devices running at least Android 2.3.

Samsung Gear S smartwatch gets full Opera Mini browser

If you ever looked down at your wrist and wished that your smartwatch could surf the web, Opera has a new browser for you. The new browser is a full-web browser that is designed specifically to run on the Samsung Gear S smartwatch running Tizen. The browser is a version of Opera Mini.

Opera Mini updates to version 7 with hardware acceleration

There are a lot of browser options out there for Android, but one from the "old guard" of desktop browser publishers is Opera Mini. This one's been around a while (longer than Android itself, in fact) but recent updates may merit another look from those who have passed over it before. Version 7, released just today,  includes a bevvy of new features such as an improved compression engine, hardware acceleration on certain devices, and support for Ice Cream Sandwich's Android Beam. You can download the updated browser for free in the Google Play Store.
