Opera Mini updates with Smart Page for social and news updates

Android users are given the excellent luxury of choosing whatever browser they want, and they have many to choose from, including Dolphin, Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. Over the weekend, Opera Mini was updated and it now includes a new feature called "Smart Page" that aggregates social media updates and news from your most frequently visited websites.

There are a lot of browser options out there for Android, but one from the "old guard" of desktop browser publishers is Opera Mini. This one's been around a while (longer than Android itself, in fact) but recent updates may merit another look from those who have passed over it before. Version 7, released just today, includes a bevvy of new features such as an improved compression engine, hardware acceleration on certain devices, and support for Ice Cream Sandwich's Android Beam. You can download the updated browser for free in the Google Play Store.

Android’s native browser beats Opera Mini, still lags behind iOS

Ready for a whole new set of browser wars? Not content to keep the web browser battle to the desktop space, Google's native Android browser, uh, "Browser", is now beating the long-standing Opera Mini for worldwide mobile browser market share. However, both are still far, far behind Safari, which commands over half of the market as of October 2011.
