NEC Medias W dual-screen Jelly Bean smartphone announced

Today the folks from NEC have announced a brand new smartphone for NTT DoCoMo in Japan, and apparently they feel that two screens are better than one. I'm having Kyocera Echo flashbacks already, and they aren't good. NEC is set to bring their first twin 4.3-inch screens smartphone to market in Japan, and it even runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean so check it out below.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z reportedly debuting next week

It's been a pretty exciting week for those of us who are looking forward to the rumored Sony Xperia Tablet Z. A few days back, reported specs for the tablet leaked out, and today, the date the new slate is debuting may just have been uncovered. The party responsible for this leak is none other than Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo, so almost immediately, this rumor becomes much easier to believe than most of the whispers that come through our doors.

Sharp’s Evangelion Android phone is fan service done right

I'll admit, I was a little skeptical when I read that Sharp and NTT DoCoMo were releasing a modified version of the Japan-only AQUOS SH-06D to coincide with the release of the latest Neon Genesis Evangelion movie. "That's nice," thought I, "it'll probably be a mildly lame tie-in with a themed case and a few ringtones, like the R2-DROID-2." Yeah, apparently not. Fan site EvaGeek.org got a loot at a preview for the upcoming device, and the level of thought and care that's gone into it is astounding.

NTT Docomo prepares Evangelion-themed Android phone

Attention: if you've got a EVA-01 toy limited edition collector's statue sitting on your desk, a poster of Rei on your wall and a NERV theme on your phone, you probably want one of these. Japanese carrier NTT Docomo has teased a special edition Sharp AQUOS SH-06D phone for fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion, the popular 90s-era anime and head trip. Like approximately 65% of Japanese cartoons [citation needed], Evangelion is about gigantic fighting robots  and presumably the phone takes the theme from the futuristic interfaces found on the show.

NEC MEDIAS ES N-05D is the latest ultra-slim superphone

Motorola didn't know they were setting off a fashionista arms race when they announced the DROID RAZR way back in November. The super-skinny superphone has drawn admiring reviews and no small amount of immitation, though Moto remains the only one close to its 7.1mm crown in the US market. The latest contender is the NEC MEDIAS N-05D (rolls off the tongue, dunnit?) slated for release on Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. The 6.7mm Android smartphone will launch in the first quarter of this year.

Fujitsu aims for the DROID RAZR with 6.7MM thin ARROWS ES

Manufacturing the smallest, lightest, and thinnest in this day and age means that there's always someone waiting to take your title away. In the case of Motorola's drool-worthy DROID RAZR, the challenger is Fujitsu's ARROWS ES IS12F smartphone, performing a caliper double-take at 6.7 millimeters. That's a whole .4mm thinner than the RAZR - a vital statistic when space in your skinny jeans is at a premium. This is almost certainly the same hardware as the Arrows-F-07D that made its way through the FCC last month.

Docomo Next Media smartphone pairs with Casio Bluetooth 4.0 smartwatch

Geeks in Japan that like the Docomo network will have a new smartphone that they can get hand so soon called the Next Media PP N-01D. This smartphone runs Android, has a large 4-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen to view, and even offers wireless charging. The smartphone is also able to survive spills and dust as well. The most interesting feature is that the phone can pair with a new Casio watch.
