Vsenn is a Project Ara competitor in modular phones

Modular phones (remember that viral Phonebloks video?) seems to be the holy grail of open source technology today. Just imagine, a smartphone whose parts you can upgrade – and not thinking of a whole other phone to purchase when you grow discontent with what you currently own. It’s a change in the paradigm of the smartphone industry. This is why Google’s Project Ara is a big deal. But it seems they’re not the only ones racing towards a modular smartphone product.

HERE update: building footprints, better Chicago transit info

Nokia's mapping app HERE continues to try and best the previously unbeatable Google Maps and this latest update will bring them even closer to that goal. Their blog post says the new features per continent is "too many to practically list," but two new special ones are worth talking about. HERE can now give you a more accurate footprint of buildings in areas in several countries, while the Chicago transit system is getting a more visually accurate feature.

HERE app clarifies issues, problems with beta for Android

It's still in beta version for Android devices, but mapping app HERE from Nokia is already creating waves as an alternative to Google Maps (some say it's even better). But as with everything that is digitally beta, there have been issues experienced by users who have been testing it on their mobile devices. To address and clarify these problems, the developers have released an FAQ that seeks to answer the most common complaints they have received so far.

HERE beta version now available for other Android devices

A few months after making the beta version available for Samsung Galaxy devices, offline mapping app HERE is now, well, here for other Android devices. The app can now be manually downloaded by all compatible devices and its developer Nokia (yes, that Nokia!) says that it is much improved as they based changes on feedback from those who have previously accessed the beta version through their Galaxy smartphones.

Nokia X2 Tools developed to improve your Nokia Android phone

Nokia as a brand may be in limbo but the now Microsoft-owned company is still in the business of making phones. Why, it even ventured into the Android game by announcing the X2 a few months ago. It’s not purely an Android device as the phone can also run Windows Phone but it’s really a unique and interesting piece.

Hands-on with Nokia HERE beta with offline maps

When you talk about digital maps, Google is the name that will undoubtedly come up first. Nokia, who is no longer making smartphones, is trying to take a bite out of that market by making its own HERE maps available to a wider audience. And now we're taking the official beta (not the leaked version) of HERE on Android for a spin to see what this Google Maps competitor has to offer.

Nokia’s HERE mapping app coming to Android soon

Nokia’s very own mapping app, which was initially released for iOS and then later pulled from the App Store is finally coming to Android and back again to iOS. HERE is Nokia’s answer to the widely used Google Maps and not-so-reliable Apple Maps.

Nokia speeds things up in Z Launcher update

Nokia (yes, the real Nokia, or what's left of it) is announcing an update to its still pre-beta Z Launcher homescreen replacement. Focusing on performance improvements under the hood, Z Launcher is taking a few steps closer to becoming a more serious contender in the Android launcher race.
