Anglophiles have been able to get their British Broadcasting Company News fix on Android for a while now, but if you prefer a larger screen, you were stuck with an upscaled interface on tablets. Until now, that is: the BBC just announced an updated News app that plays nice with Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich tablets. At the moment the app is only available to UK users, but according to the news service the international version will soon be updated as well.

Just as before, the app allows readers to access all the portions of the BBC News website in a mobile form factor. A useful addition is the ability to customize your homescreen (a la Google Currents) to see only the news that you care about. Video links contained in each story will play without opening another app. Like any good reader app, you can customize the size of the displayed font to your liking. A few features from the smartphone version have yet to make it to the tablet app, including homescreen widgets and Flash support.

The app is a free download in the Android Market, though as mentioned before, it’s currently only approved for UK users. Early reviews of the tablet version indicate great success - if only all news outlets suported tablets to this degree! (Cough.) We await the international version with bated breath.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus news just keeps flowing in from all angles this week and we have a few to report on. First off, the Verizon 4G LTE enabled Galaxy Nexus is still on track for December 15th, or so we think. Now Costco has helped confirm that rumor and minor detail with an ad spot confirming it will be on sale from December 15th to the 20th for just $289, according to Engadget. That isn’t all the Nexi news either so stay tuned for more details.

Now for those in the states that are still very patiently waiting for the Galaxy Nexus (or impatiently) if you are fed up with the Verizon mind games and torture tests and would like to just enjoy this new flagship Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone already then Newegg has you covered. They’ve imported tons of the GSM model, dropped the import price, and it can be yours for just $699 by clicking here.

Last but not least even Australia will be able to enjoy Android 4.0 ICS and the Galaxy Nexus before us here in the states. Telstra is set to start shipping the Nexus to buyers starting tomorrow and you can buy it now right from their website. Add them to the long list of Canadians and all across Europe and even Japan that have all already launched this device. Verizon needs to get with the game here or everyone might just pick one up from Newegg instead.

Google has just announced their new Google Currents project. In case you aren’t familiar with Currents that link should have all the details. This is basically a magazine-esque format RSS reader application only with a better UI and an overall awesome experience. It’s a new way to browse and read your favorite sites and RSS feeds and hey, Android Community and SlashGear are both already in Currents — Check us out!

So far I must admit, Google Currents is pretty darn awesome. I’ve been viewing so much content and our awesome reviews like the one on the Transformer Prime that I’ve hardly been working. If you’ve been looking for a better and easier way to view your favorite sites (Android Community and SlashGear) then this is your solution. This isn’t your average reader or app like Flipboard, this is a full on all in one solution and Google’s done a fantastic job. It is simply, easy to understand, has a beautiful UI, and is highly customizable for both readers and publishers alike. Not only that but it works for Android phones, tablets and even iOS.

One awesome feature is publishers can create custom pages, change the layout, and even pull from multiple sources all at once. Take our sister site SlashGear for example. We have everything from our webpage to Twitter, Google+, and even our YouTube channel for all of our hands-on videos and reviews neatly in one place. Check out the screenshot below of SlashGear YouTube in Google Currents.

The user interface is fluid and brilliant and makes the entire browsing experience quite pleasurable. Being able to swipe left and right through all the content is very fast and easy. Click on an image in any of our many reviews and you can swipe through the entire photo gallery with pinch to zoom and more. Then hit the YouTube source to view the hands-on and walkthrough coverage for said product. Enjoy my hands-on video below for a better idea of Google Currents, then head to the market and give it a try today. Don’t forget to add Android Community and SlashGear to your front page!

News regarding the Samsung Galaxy Nexus has appeared in some shape or form on a daily basis well before it was even announced, and today that continues. We first told you back in October about the sign-up page for details on the Galaxy Nexus right at Samsung.com but today it has changed a bit. Instead of just offerings news and updates it now exclusively states Verizon Wireless. Maybe an announcement with availability is coming soon.

The original sign-up page we mentioned and linked to above said, “Sign up to get the latest on the Galaxy Nexus from Samsung” but recently it has a slightly different tune that states Verizon Wireless and is also in bold. It now reads:

Sign up to get the latest on the Galaxy Nexus from Verizon Wireless.”

Is that just a tease? What does that mean? Maybe I’m crazy and its been that way for a few days now but last I checked it didn’t mention anything regarding Verizon on the official Samsung page. We have heard all sorts of rumors regarding the Galaxy Nexus hitting Verizon since it was first announced. The biggest date was November 17th, which happens to be tomorrow. I have a feeling we’ll get plenty of Galaxy Nexus news tomorrow, but whether Verizon announces it or not I haven’t a clue. For anything and everything Nexus feel free to look over our Galaxy Nexus portal. Stay tuned because tomorrow could be the big day for Verizon and the Galaxy Nexus.

Well folks, we just received word right from Google of an upcoming event that will clearly be about Google Music. It looks like the time has finally come and Google will be announcing and showing the world what they have in store for Google Music. If the “These Go to Eleven” didn’t ring a bell for anyone, think Spinal Tap. If you don’t know what that is I suggest you Google that, and enjoy it. Recent Google Music pages pointed to a music store coming to the Android Market, but we’ll all know the details come next week.

We’ve been patiently waiting for some sort of Music options in Android for a long time. We do have things like Amazon MP3 or Spotify but a full on solution to iTunes could be lurking here, or maybe not. Recent rumors suggest Google has been planning and preparing its very own MP3 store will all sorts of new options that will change the way we use and consume music on mobile devices.

Most likely we can expect some sort of music purchasing solution, maybe even some sharing included. We have a feeling Google+ integration will be there too. With new features coming in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich such as Android Beam we might even get a few different ways to find and share music with our friends and family. This has just hit the wires and as soon as we hear more details we’ll be sure to update everyone. Stay tuned as we’ll be covering the “These Go to Eleven” news event by Google right here, live at 2:00 PM PT. You can also follow along at YouTube.com/Android for live video in case Nigel himself shows up.

Samsung has just announced full pricing and retail availability for three new Android devices today. Those being the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 as well as the Galaxy Player 5.0 and 4.0 media devices. We’ve seen plenty of these over the past few weeks as well as full Tab 8.9 pre-order information. Today we have full details and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be available starting October 2nd.

First off we’ll start with the Galaxy Tab 8.9 as it should be an awesome tablet. Just like its bigger brother the Galaxy Tab 10.1 it features Android 3.1 Honeycomb along with the Samsung Touch Wiz for tablets user interface. Running on an 8.9″ beautiful display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, coming in both 16 and 32GB versions upon launch. With a huge 6,100 mAh battery it should last longer than most tablets around and be the ultimate portable companion.

Samsung has stated the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is available for pre-order now at places like Best Buy, and will be for sale nationwide starting October 2nd for $569 for the 32GB version and $469 for the 16GB version.

Next up is the Samsung Galaxy Player — coming in both a 4.0 and 5.0″ size and also available in October. The Galaxy Players will bring the portability and power of Samsung’s Galaxy line powered by Android to the media device market. Offering a great priced alternative to the iPod Touch. Both the Galaxy Player models will come aboard with Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, full Google services and Market support, 1.0 Ghz single-core processors, 8GB of internal storage, and have 3.2 MP cameras on back and VGA front for video chat. Then they vary a bit regarding size, weight, battery life, and screen size obviously given the names. The full spec sheets can be seen below but it’s interesting to note the Galaxy Player 5.0 has a huge 2500 mAh battery while the 4.0 only comes with a 1200 mAh battery. Either way these both look great and will make the perfect media player for the Android user.

The Galaxy Player 4.0 and 5.0 will be available this October, starting on the 16th with the 5.0 being $269 and the Player 4.0 will come in around $229

We’ve heard plenty about AT&T’s 4G LTE market and seen plenty of leaked phones for it too, now it seems they are finally making it official and will be launching their 4G LTE next-gen wireless network starting September 18th. They’ve already launched their first 4G LTE tablet the HTC Jetstream so whoever bought it might finally have 4G coverage soon, although only in a few markets at first.

Speaking for a conference today AT&T CFO John Stephens revealed that his carrier will finally be flipping the switch on its LTE network this Sunday, September 18th, coming to five markets. They include Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston as well as plans to add an aditional 10 markets before the end of 2011. While this is a good start Verizon has been adding 15-25 new markets almost every 3 weeks as of late and are making a huge leap ahead in this race.

With AT&T 4G Hotspots and USB sticks being available since August, AT&T plans for this launch to breath some fresh air into their network and boost sales. With the HTC Jetstream finally here, the HTC Holiday coming soon with 4G LTE as the HTC Raider, and possibly another Galaxy S II coming later this year with 4G LTE they have a pretty solid starting offensive line. With Verizon just releasing the DROID Bionic we sure hope AT&T plans to release something similar here very soon, they need to.

More details should be surfacing regarding their 4G LTE roll-out as well as upcoming phones and tablets so stay tuned.

Recently the entire Android community and especially the fans and developers were hit with huge news, that Steve Kondik (aka Cyanogen) was hired by Samsung Mobile. While this is amazing news and everyone is most likely happy for Steve I’ve seen plenty of comments as of late that some are worried this might affect CyanogenMod as a whole.

Right off the bat I saw Twitter comments from tons of worried fans that don’t want to see the project wither away and die. After the news broke we quickly reminded everyone that they have a huge team and nothing will change. Today the team behind CyanogenMod themselves have confirmed this exact thing with the “State of CyanogenMod” blog post. Basically confirming everything we already said and linked to above. They all have day jobs, families, friends, and other responsibilities and in the end this is a hobby — something they love and will continue to do.

With key members of CyanogenMod busy with life things have been a little slow, but in no way is anything changing. They have a huge community of supporters and developers alike that will continue to churn out amazing updates and fixes for all of our favorite devices (just like my image above). We’ve seen recent video of CM7 on the Sensation 4G, progress on the Motorola Atrix now the bootloader has been unlocked, and even the LG Optimus 3D is set to receive CyanogenMod.

Everything over in cyan land should continue just as it always has. Users don’t need to worry that their devices will stop being supported out of the blue or that Samsung will effect the project, because they wont from what we are hearing. This has all been mentioned over on the CyanogenMod Blog today and I just wanted to share the news and help spread the good word.

Bring on CM7 for my Sensation, I can’t wait!

Despite Apple’s frivolous attempts to block the Samsung Galaxy Tab in many markets such as Australia and even the entire European Union, it appears that sales will surge forward in both areas according to recent news. First we saw the sales might be halted in Australia but quickly learned they will continue as planned and go on sale shortly.

While the entire lawsuit and situation regarding the European version is a bit different Germany will also start selling the tab shortly too. After Samsung initially said they would delay the launch in Australia they later changed their minds and are going forward. I’m happy to report you guys down under will be able to purchase the tab very soon.

According to the above leaked flyer the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be launching over in Australia starting September 1st, it appears Apple’s attempts have failed so far and hopefully they continue to do so. Hopefully this shows how much confidence Samsung has in the courts over in those parts, or maybe they are just pushing it out anyways. I’d be launching it if I were Samsung, they have nothing to hide right? I mean they don’t even have the same aspect ratio as the iPad, or did Apple lie about that too?

The HTC Bliss has been spotted in the wild. This is that HTC device we first reported about being made specifically for women and lately it has been receiving a little attention. We have seen it a few times over the past few weeks and just last week it cleared the FCC. Now the device is out in the wild and most likely will be released sooner than later.

As always these photos are nice and blurry so we only get a small glance with no attention to details but at least we are seeing the device in the wild rather than just a few mock-up designs and press images. While we still don’t know much about the Bliss it was seen on the recently leaked Verizon roadmap and may be launching at the end of September.

The HTC Bliss should be rocking Android 2.3 Gingerbread, an 800 Mhz processor, 5MP Camera, as well as the new HTC Sense UI 3.5 we keep hearing about yet have no details on. While this is a mid-range device it does have a few tricks up it’s sleeve like we first reported. Some of those include multiple different accessories aimed for women, a little charm piece that may attach to the device and light up for notifications — while doubling as something women can use to help pull the phone from crowded purses and handbags. Like mentioned above we may see this device as early as the end of September but those dates are always open to change so stay tuned.

Just like that the Motorola Defy gets replaced. Today Motorola has announced the New Defy+ with a few beefed up specifications to handle every type of situation. From mud and water, to browsing and gaming. Just like the first model the Defy + keeps its same rugged water resistant, scratch resistant and dust proof design while getting a boost in the hardware department.

This time around the hardware is a little more impressive and will feature a 1 Ghz processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.7″ 480×854 resolution screen, a 5 MP camera and 2GB of internal storage with optional micro SD support. Quite an impressive device for also being able to get submerged in water or mud and keep on pushing out that data or make phone calls.

I guess the original was popular enough to release a second device, this announcement comes right after Samsung recently unveiled a similar device. Samsung just announced the XCover Rugged Smartphone to compete with the Defy but now with the Defy+ it has a little bit of competition. The Defy+ may not be a Droid Bionic but it is plenty fast, powerful, and safe and would make the perfect companion for Mike Rowe with Dirty Jobs right? More details are available via the full press release.

Looks like our friends at Big Red will be getting some more 4G LTE love coming in the near future because we just spotted the Pantech Apache hitting the FCC rocking those 4G LTE speeds. Pantech isn’t known for higher end smartphones and are relatively new to the Android scene but a LTE device would be a great way to get going here.

We don’t know much but looking at the pictures from the FCC the Apache has a similar looking rear to recent Pantech devices such as the Pantech Crossover we recently reviewed with that camera and speaker grill shown above. If you remember they also are the company behind those 1.5 Ghz dual-core phones in Korea we reported on back in May as well as the 5″ Android phones we also spotted.

This filing sure didn’t reveal much as we still don’t know screen size, processor type or speed or any of those important specifications but I’m sure we will be hearing more very shortly with it clearing the FCC and all. Pantech hasn’t released anything too stellar here in the states but hopefully that will be changing with a 4G LTE device like the Apache. I’m just hoping it has some good specs to go with those speeds. The Bionic needs some competition anyways right?

This entire story is just a bit odd but after reading over a few details I just had to write it up. Basically AT&T isn’t helping their case one bit regarding the AT&T T-Mobile merger. Apparently a statement was spotted in the FCC filing that had a portion redacted by AT&T and now we look over things it just doesn’t make any sense.

It seems AT&T stated they only need $3.8 billion to bring 4G LTE to 97% of their subscribers based the current state and progress of things. Now I know $3.8 Billion is a pretty big hunk of change but not for them, especially when you consider what they offered T-Mobile for the buyout — does anyone remember? $39 Billion, yea a huge difference.

AT&T is stating in their case for the T-Mobile buyout that they absolutely need the merger to go through. Basically saying they need the available spectrum’s and infrastructure in place via T-Mobile to help them rollout and continue to build their 4G LTE network. So if you step back and look at that, the FCC filing states they only need $3.8 billion in funding to complete the rollout and fully build up their LTE network. All the while they are also saying it is crucial that they buy T-Mobile for the whopping $39 billion that was agreed upon. Wouldn’t it be much easier to just spend the $3.8 billion — just a thought.

So in a round about way everything they have been saying regarding the need for T-Mobile was completely undercut with the leaked documents from the FCC filing and the $3.8 billion statement. Unless there is much more details that we don’t know, it appears they think everyone doesn’t know basic math. While I only briefly read into AT&T’s official statement things just seem a bit off and don’t really make any sense. For more details hit the source link and check out AT&T’s complete response.

What we’re getting here today is the newest version of one of our favorite news apps, that being News360, one we called the App of the Week a few weeks ago, now in its second full version, version 2.0, one that introduces the social networking world into the tablet in a very large way for the iOS version and a soon to be large way for Android. The biggest change in the Android version of this application at the moment is the instant access to news videos. Right alongside tabs for your regular news feed at the awesome 360 view of images linking to news stories is a Videos tab that’ll allow you to check out the news in purely video form.

The interface for this application is fiddled with a bit, certainly no taking anything away from the amount of control you have over what News360 is calling their “reverse search” method of bringing content to the user. Much in the same way Google is attempting to connect people with the news in it’s “Sparks” interface in Google+, their new social networking site, News360 has you create your own categories in which they’ll supply you with news. Subject matter is all you really have to enter in if you like, and if you don’t want to do such a thing, you can follow the categories News360 already has prepared for you. All of this is prepared in several different ways, it being your choice in the end how you view the news through this diverse app for Android.

As far as the new web-based look at the app and the iOS version go, it’s a slightly different situation. Check out the images provided in the gallery below and you’ll see how social networking integration is just slightly above what it is in the Android app thus far. This slight advancement along with the fact that it’s still sort of rare to see a blog site such as Android Community in the mix are two updates we hope to see made in the next wave for Android tablets as well as handsets – Google Reader included!

Beyond that, this app is still a mightily magnificent vision for each of the main platforms, and yes, if you’ve got an HTML5-able web browser on any device (or so it seems,) you’re able to run the web-based version of News360, a force to be reckoned with all on its own.

What we have just seen is said to be first screenshots of Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the next version of Google’s OS. While this entire thing is just breaking and we haven’t had the time to look ever them closely things are looking pretty tasty from here. These appear to be early beta builds of Android on the Google Nexus S. Some early reports from RootzWiki are claiming these are 100% legit and real screenshots but we will just let you decide.

The leakster claims this is a very early build that in not very stable and is still very much a work in progress. They even mention it wont be coming out this month or the next but we already have been planning on a November or Thanksgiving time frame. There is plenty of changes as well as a entire new color scheme. Gmail has been redesigned and more. We are now seeing pictures also leaked to Android Police looking very similar so this could indeed be the real deal.

According to the leak to WootzWiki there is plenty of new and exciting changes so I’m going to post them all below for you to see what they now know.

    -Blue Themed
-Camera has built in panorama mode
-Will launch with Google Shopper and NFC Enabled devices will be able to utilize those features
-Gmail is all rethemed and updated
-Nexus Prime gets it first (expected) then other devices will follow after
-Not too many changes, just UI things, don’t think requirements are set too high for year old devices to run it
-The little icon in the bottom right, looks like a tray with multiple apps in it (Like Honeycomb app switching)
-Google search bar embedded on very top like Honeycomb
-Apps/Widgets launcher a lot like Honeycomb
-This release is still very early, notice the theming of the power tray

While we are excited to see all of this it does make us wonder. In the Wootzwiki picture everything has been rethemed even the icons up top and the colors are all blue, yet the power bar widget is still green, but that could just be not finished yet so who knows. I was hoping to see a Android 2.4 or maybe 3.5 in there so we knew what the next version would be. It appears this sneaky prankster or Google themselves have still not decided what they will be calling the next version of Android. We do see build number is IRK36B.

We know this isn’t a lot, but it’s better than nothing right? With so much of these photos being blacked out to protect the identity of the leak I’m starting to think it may in fact be the real deal. These are quite possibly the very first look on Android 2.4, 3.5, or 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or whatever they will call it. More pictures below.

Whoa, out of no where today Google has just announced Games for Google+ and already the first to tip the chart is the all mighty Angry Birds. This is one of the next big steps for Google to integrate another level of socialization into Google+ to better compete with the likes of Facebook. From Angry Birds, Decks of Cards, Diamand Dash and more. These will all be available soon for Google+.

Today Google is set to start the rollout of games to the popular Google+ Project. While I’m still not seeing anything on my own page this news was just barely released so it should be showing up shortly. The image above shows where to look as it will be there anytime now. Google is aiming to make games in G+ just as fun as during real life.

That means giving you control over when you see games, how you play them and with whom you share your experiences. Games in Google+ are there when you want them and gone when you don’t.

I can see myself having a Gamers Circle any day now, right? We should be able to see game updates as well as invites and bragging all in our stream or selected circles. You’ll be able to easily share you high score, or how many times you’ve won. Bragging rights with who has the biggest farm coming soon to Google+ I can just imagine it already. I’ll be growing G+ farms and using Facebook for the soil. Google does mention for those not interested in games your streams will continue as usual and you wont be bothered so you can focus on what matters to you.

They have a decent list of games to start with from the developers that jumped aboard at the start and some of those include: Angry Birds, Bejeweled, Zynga Poker, Diamond Dash and a few mobsters type games like Crime City. This news just came out so be sure to keep checking here for updates as well as head over to Google+ to get started. I’m sure we will all be seeing plenty of invites over the next few weeks, that is for sure.

Update: A reader over at PCMag mentioned that in order to use Google+ Games the users must allow collection of some personal data by Google like G+ account information, email address, and even users in your circles. Here is the screenshot but we have no further details on that.

All sorts of suggestions and rumors have been floating around since we first heard HTC was planning a major announcement tomorrow. We quickly heard they had something big they would reveal tomorrow morning to the masses but instead of a press release or something of that nature they are having a conference call live with HTC CEO Peter Chou. We have just heard the news might not be a special new tablet, or the next big smartphone — instead it could be that they are partnering with Beats Audio.

At first I thought we might get the HTC Puccini tablet announcement, or something similar and we still don’t completely know what is coming tomorrow. A report just released by AllthingsD takes things a different direction and they are claiming the announcement could be that HTC has partnered with Beats Audio (yea like Dr. Dre) and will be bringing better audio to smartphones.

This same technology is also in HP Laptops and the new HP Touchpad and now it seems that HTC wants some of the action. They are investing around $300 million into the audio company to help bring a better experience to their smartphones. Whether this is just for smartphones we dont know. Or is HTC planning a HTC aPlayer or something running on Android to compete with the iPod is another possibility. With the help of Beats Audio they might just be headed in a good direction.

We don’t know if this is the huge announcement that is taking place or just another partnership that we will be hearing about in the coming days. Either way make sure you stay tuned as we will be reporting anything we see come from tomorrows announcement by HTC. I’m hoping for something bigger than Beats Audio, but that’s just me.

Federal Trade Commission officials appear to be focusing some antitrust investigations on a few key areas of Google’s business, including not only their web services but also in Android. The FTC recently served Google with broad subpoenas to collect information about how the company conducts business with its Android licensees as well as the entire Oracle situation.

Our sources state that the FTC is working with “several state attorneys general,” looking into “whether Google prevents smartphone manufacturers that use its Android operating system from using competitors’ services. There is also claims that Google grants their own products better placement in search results for things like Google Places and Shopping or even collecting data from competitors like Yelp and using that data on their own applications.

This FTC probe was official back in June, but it appears they are now focusing on these few key areas of Google’s business like we have outlined above. The European Commission also started similar probes late last year but it’s still ongoing. Obviously Google has denied all such claims and mentions that with success you will always have competitors that want to complain.

“We understand that with success comes scrutiny,” said a Google spokeswoman. “We’re happy to answer any questions they have about our business.”

Between all this, the Oracle suits linked to above, and all the recent Patent and IP lawsuits from other various companies like Apple it appears Google’s team of lawyers is plenty busy and might soon be hiring. All of this is still ongoing and no officials from the FTC were able to comment regarding the latest probes into Google. For now we will just have to sit back and watch as everything unfolds. Just this week Apple got the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned from being sold in Europe temporarily so this could be a big problem as things and products all move forward.

HTC just sent over a little tip warning us that they have a major announcement they plan to reveal early tomorrow morning, That is August 11th. CEO Peter Chou will be conducting a teleconference in Los Angeles, and that’s about all we know. This comes as a surprise because we haven’t heard anything as of late or seen anything large leaked that may be announced tomorrow but we have a few ideas running around up stairs.

Will this be another quietly brilliant moment from HTC like the photo says above, or will this have to do with unlocking of bootloaders? We have heard a lot on bootloaders in the past few weeks not to mention the more than a few leaks for the upcoming HTC Puccini Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet. We’ve been seeing screenshots of HTC’s tablet with a little Sense UI taking over so this could be the big announcement tomorrow as they’ve been lacking in the tablet game.

So what does everyone think is coming? Are they going to announce a new phone, a new tablet, or something better? We would love to hear what all of our readers think might be coming so feel free to drop a few replies in the comment section below. I’m hoping to hear about the Puccini tablet but that’s just me. One last tease is this could be the announcement for the Thunderbolt replacement called the HTC Vigor but I’m going to just stop right there. We will see how it goes tomorrow and have all the juicy details right here on Android Community.

I wouldn’t really call this a huge surprise considering we still haven’t heard much from AT&T regarding their 4G LTE networks, and they are just barely starting to get off the ground. Today at a tech conference AT&T’s senior vice president of mobility and consumer markets, Peter Ritcher, said that the company will not have a 4G LTE enabled smartphone until very late into 2011.

The 4G LTE networks have been rolling out to test cities this summer and the first devices with access will be laptop sticks and mobile hotspots. While this news isn’t extremely surprising it will probably make a few users easily decide whether to stay with AT&T or head to another carrier like Verizon that is set to launch more than a few 4G LTE devices in the coming weeks and months.

Looking at this comment from the other direction at least we now can expect to see some 4G LTE devices from AT&T this year, although we thought that was the case this makes it seem more on track that we will at least see one by the end of the year. I do want to mention the HTC Puccini tablet headed for AT&T because last we saw it was packing AT&T 4G LTE. Does this mean we wont see it until very late 2011 also? If so they are way late to the game.
