Motorola XOOM WiFi getting Android 4.1.2 update

It looks like the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus aren't the only ones getting Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Over the weekend Motorola and Google also started pushing out the update to the WiFi Motorola XOOM too. We've seen multiple reports that the update has been arriving all weekend for multiple users.

When Google unveiled Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the world they also stated the Motorola XOOM would be one of the first to see the update. Then Motorola confirmed the news, but we all assumed the Verizon 4G LTE XOOM would be slow to see such an update, but that might not be the case. It appears that Jelly Bean could be rolling out now for the Verizon XOOM.

It appears that Google's finally reading to start pushing their latest and greatest, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the Motorola XOOM. After announcing the update at Google IO for a few of their devices, the Motorola XOOM is the last Google experience device to see the update -- not counting the Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

In the usual Motorola fashion, we started seeing emails this weekend going out to members of their "feedback network" to test some new software for the tablet. What this means is the next update, presumably Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, is ready to roll out to the masses and Moto would like to give it a test run or "soak test" first. Here's what we know:

If you're one of the 12 lucky folks that still own the original Motorola Xoom on Verizon we have good news. After the WiFi model received the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich what seems like forever ago, the Verizon 3G 4G LTE version is finally set to receive the much anticipated update. While it isn't quite rolling out today, we expect to see it arrive for devices within the next 24-48 hours.

His latest masterpiece, the KegDroid, uses a Motorola XOOM connected with a tiny electronic controller to both secure and properly dispense what made Milwaukee famous. Today lifetime Googler Larry Page took over the Chief Executive Officer position at Google. It's been a long time coming for the 39-year old engineer turned entrepreneur - he's adopting the duties from Eric Schmidt, Page and Sergey Brin's business partner, who is keeping his executive chairman duties. When Businessweek asked Page about which Android tablet he prefers, the executive made an answer that shouldn't surprise anyone: he's a fan of Motorola and Samsung's designs.

Good news for those that still own the Motorola XOOM WiFi tablet. After hearing last week from Motorola that an update was on the way, then Google announcing Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich was being pushed to multiple devices, we can now report it is available for the XOOM and rolling out as we speak.

Whoa! It looks like Google maybe saw a few angry comments around the Android ecosystem about the lack of updates because in one huge massive announcement they just made tons of people happy. The update to Android 4.0.4 ICS is rolling our right now, as we speak to multiple devices. Those include the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM), Nexus S, and the Motorola Xoom WiFi. Looks like Verizon users of the Gnex and Xoom will have to wait a little longer.

As a developer device, the Motorola XOOM has the enviable distinction of getting the latest Android updates as soon as possible. And as a WiFi-only device, those without a Verizon model get it without any carriers mucking up the update process. This being the case, the XOOM is the very first device to get an official update Android 4.0.4. Motorola let XOOM owners know via email that they should be expecting the over-the-air update later today. XOOM owners, you know the drill: head to your Setting>About Tablet menu to see if the update is available yet.
