Motorola Droid X Gingerbread Update Hinted via Project Invite
It's good to know that even though the DROID X2 is being sent out now, that the original Droid X wont be abandoned. By no means! A message has been sent out to developers and users of this cool classic Droid at Motorola's Mobility forums asking owners of the unit to participate in a project of little detail. This project requires you to go through an enrollment survey and sign a non-disclosure paper so that you don't spill the beans to the world before they do. What could it possible be? Perhaps they'll update their software to X2 proportions?

Droid X2 Dummy units arriving at Costco, could launch soon
Things look to be lining up almost like we all had thought. Earlier in the month we told you about the Droid X2 and a few other devices launching on Verizon on May 12th, that day is today and we are seeing some news regarding the Droid X2, but nothing about it launching or being for sale. It appears to be showing up at places like Costco in the form of dummy models.

Droid X Gingerbread update approved
Last week, we reported a rumor that a Droid X Gingerbread update could be coming May 13th after being submitted to Verizon several times for approval. The update had originally been slated for an April release, but that slipped since Verizon wanted a few changes before signing off. The word now is that Gingerbread for the Droid X has been approved and will be coming out as an OTA update as early as Friday, May 13th. So while still a rumor, it takes the next giant step out of the shadows.

HBO coming to Android
HBO is expanding it's reach to subscribers who have Android handsets and tablets. The service, known as HBO Go, is part of HBOs "TV Everywhere" initiative and will be available on both Android (note the Motorola Droid X in the commercial below), as well as iOS platforms. It will enable users to stream content from every episode of HBO original series, as well as hit movies. In addition, Max Go, which is based on their sister network Cinemax, will also be available.

Motorola Droid X Gingerbread 2.3 OTA already rooted
That was fast, before most people even got the OTA for the Motorola Droid X to Android 2.3 that we mentioned yesterday it has already been rooted by none other than TeamBlackHat. @P3Droid has already posted pictures on twitter of the About Page and superuser permissions being accessed. Cool!

Droid X Gingerbread Update happening today
Droid X users are starting to get the official Gingerbread update today, but users who want to root their phones may want to think twice. The new update is version 4.5.588, and according to reports, the devil is in the details as to what it brings. It seems that Motorola may be quietly replacing the Droid X bootloader with a locked down version and users will have no way to revert back to the previous version. As if that wasn't enough, the fact that Motorola and Verizon are quietly performing the update with no notice is just plain devious.

Motorola Droid X also gets the Official 2.3.3 Gingerbread leak
What do we have here? I just got done mentioning that the Droid 2 got a 2.3 Gingerbread leak, and before I could finish the story I got word about some other even more exciting news. The Motorola Droid X is getting a very similar, if not the same leak. I'm assuming this will be bigger as more people have the Droid X. It is a sweet phone. Anyways lets skip the fun and get right to it.

Verizon DROID X2 leak tips smaller memory card not refreshed phone
Motorola's DROID X is getting on, but it seems the replacement Motorola DROID X2 may not be a huge improvement. An SCK Kiosks (a subsidiary of Radio Shack) tipster has sent in a screenshot from the company's internal systems that tips the DROID X2 as merely a DROID X with a 2GB pre-loaded memory card rather than a 16GB card. According to the leak, the DROID X2 is more of a shorthand to differentiate the models in the system, rather than a truly new version. It will be priced the same as the original, and there's no talk of the Tegra 2 processor and other specs in the last leak. Motorola may have boosted internal storage to counter the smaller memory card, but it seems that this is merely a cheaper way to ship the original DROID X now that the smartphone is ageing. [Thanks anonymous tipster!]
