Verizon DROID RAZR M and RAZR HD launch in blue

Putting an end to some leaks and rumors that surfaced earlier in the month, Verizon Wireless has launched the DROID RAZR M and DROID RAZR HD smartphones in an additional color. The new color is blue and it will be joining the existing black and white models. That said, aside from the change in color -- the handset specs and pricing remain the same.

Motorola introduced a platinum colored DROID RAZR M a few months back. The handset was for Verizon Wireless and was selling exclusively through big box retailer Best Buy. That particular model was a simple color refresh and the handset carried the same specs and $49.99 price tag. Well, flash forward till today and it looks like the DROID RAZR M may soon be getting another color refresh.

Earlier this week a major milestone was reached in terms of unlocking and hacking Motorola smartphones. Motorola's encrypted bootloaders finally were cracked and it represents a first for many of their latest devices. Nothing close to this has been achieved on a Motorola device yet. Sadly the process requires a rooted device, and for many that wasn't available until now.

Yesterday we reported on some exciting breaking news that the popular Motorola dev @djrbliss had finally cracked the encryption on Motorola's bootloader, and now we have even better news. It's available right now! Today he's released the brand new tool allowing the RAZR HD, MAXX HD, Atrix HD, and RAZR M to all be bootloader unlocked and free from Verizon's death grip.

Motorola has recently posted a new image over on Facebook. You can see that image here in the post, but the long and short -- they appear to have put the Droid RAZR HD up against the Galaxy S3. Of course, having seen previous sales reports for the Galaxy S3, it becomes a bit easier to understand why Motorola choose this particular handset.

Earlier this week the official update to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean started rolling out to the Motorola DROID RAZR HD and MAXX HD. Sadly it appears to be a rather small group who got it and many users are still patiently awaiting its arrival. Today we can confirm Verizon and Motorola are pushing the update to users on a mass scale, and we've received multiple reports of users receiving the OTA this morning.
