LG announces Optimus Vu II with Infrared universal remote features

LG's overly sized 5-inch Optimus Vu phablet still is barely available outside of South Korea, but today they've already announced a second model coming soon. It will simply be called the Optimus Vu II and we don't have much regarding specs although they've made certain we know of its universal remote features and new infrared blaster similar to some Samsung tablets.

LG released their Optimus Vu earlier this year internationally and we've seen countless leaks this month confirming a Verizon launch. Now today we are getting our first press shot.

In case you haven't been following along, LG's 5-inch phablet named the LG Optimus Vu is headed to Verizon Wireless complete with 4G LTE. We've seen countless leaks and rumors so it's no secret at this point. Today we have even more confirmation that it's headed to Verizon, complete with a name change. The Optimus Vu will be branded as the Intuition by LG.

LG's new Optimus Vu 5-inch "phablet" smartphone might not be selling as well as Samsung's Galaxy Note, but they have recently announced over 500,000 have been sold. Along with that news they managed to share a few details for when those stateside can expect the device to arrive. It looks like we can expect to see LG's new smartphone sometime in the 3rd quarter, so before the end of September.

LG and their Optimus Vu is apparently headed for Verizon with 4G LTE after some leaked pictures of the device seemingly confirmed its fate. There was rumors of the Galaxy Note for Verizon as the Journal, but it looks like LG will get the go ahead instead.

Users want larger smartphone displays, says obvious analyst

Android users tend to like big, big displays on their phones. A previous study found that the median size for an Android handset was between 4.0 and 4.3 inches diagonally, and of course more and more devices are coming out with 5-inch and larger screens, a figure that was downright laughable just a few years ago. It looks like Android manufacturers ain't just whistlin' Dixie. According to a report from Strategy Analytics, 9 out of 10 people gravitate towards a phone with a bigger screen than their current one when buying a new model.
