PSA: Unlocking your phone is illegal starting today
In case you haven't heard, starting today it will be illegal for users to unlock their phone. Yes a device you've actually paid for. While this has absolutely nothing to do with root, jailbreak, and tweaking phones like we all love to in the Android Community, it's still a shame. Thanks to some edits and tweaks made the the DMCA back in October it's now illegal to unlock a phone without carrier consent.

Cook, Schmidt, and Otellini forced to testify on employee poaching agreement
Fridays are normally slow news days, but not this one. Today we're hearing a whopper of a story coming out of All Things D, as Judge Lucy Koh (the very same Judge that oversaw the case between Apple and Samsung) is ordering Apple CEO Tim Cook, Intel CEO Paul Otellini, and Google Chairman Eric Schmidt to give testimonies related to the companies' non-poaching agreement. Allegedly, Apple, Intel, and Google all entered into an agreement that restricted each company from recruiting the others' employees.

Instagram hit with class-action lawsuit over controversial Terms of Service
It hasn't been a good week for Instagram. When the Facebook-owned company revealed its updated Terms of Service, which go into effect next month, the Internet went crazy, pointing out certain clauses that many users took issue with. It was a controversy that had co-founder Kevin Systrom taking to the Instagram blog to try to smooth things over before the company changed the Terms of Service to contain more favorable language. Today, however, we hear that Instagram has been hit with a class action lawsuit filed by Finkelstein & Krinsk for plaintiff Lucy Fines.

GoLive Mobile and Airpush hit with lawsuit, accused of unwanted charges
We're not sure about you, but we've never met anyone who's willing to pay a monthly fee for one of those "premium text messaging" services. Perhaps that's why companies will resort to some shady tactics to get mobile phone users to sign up? That's what app developer GoLive Mobile and ad agency Airpush are accused of doing in a class action lawsuit headed up by Colorado law firm Edelson and McGuire, PCWorld reports.

Apple and Samsung in court again over $1bn fine
Apple and Samsung are going to a place they both should be all too familiar with today; the courtroom. Samsung is hoping to fight off that massive $1bn judgement against them. Apple, on the other hand, is actually hoping to get another $535m tacked on to the judgement. Apple is arguing that because the jury ruled that Samsung's infringement was willful, it should be required to pay an even higher penalty.

Apple and HTC heavily redacted settlement agreement surfaces
Apple and HTC came to an agreement last month that ended a two-year battle between the two companies. At first, we heard that Apple was receiving $6-$8 for every phone HTC sold, but HTC has since shot that down. Shortly after the ruling, Samsung was given access to the agreement since it could affect its own patents and suits.

No injunction for Motorola in Microsoft case, Judge says
The US patent suit between Motorola and Microsoft wrapped up last month, but today Motorola was dealt a pretty serious blow by federal Judge James Robart. Robart denied Motorola's request for an injunction on Microsoft products today, which of course means that Microsoft can continue selling the allegedly infringing products here in the US. That isn't the best sign for Google, which shelled out billions of dollars to buy Motorola, partly so it could have access to the company's massive patent portfolio.
