LG Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat tipped for October 14th release date

Google shocked everyone when they announced and confirmed the next version of Android wouldn't be 5.0, and instead we'd see a minor bump to Android 4.4 KitKat. That was followed up with our first look at the LG Nexus 5 which leaked on accident, and recent FCC filings have shared all the physical details we need. Now, all we're waiting for is a release date and more 4.4 details, a few of which we'll talk about below.

As we all know, the folks over at Microsoft and Nokia aren't doing so great in the mobile space. Although, Microsoft looks to change that with their recent acquisition and buyout of Nokia. They'll soon be taking the same approach as Apple and now Google, by having their own hardware company. In light of Sundar Pichai announcing Android 4.4 KitKat, Nokia's now begging us all to "have a break" from Android.

Today has been full of excitement and random news with Google's own Sundar Pichai announcing Android 4.4 will officially be called KitKat. Along with the announcement was our first pictures of the KitKat statue going up on the Google HQ lawn, just like previous years, but something caught a few eagle-eyed viewers eyes. Did Google just accidentally unveil the new LG Nexus 5? Possible, but they quickly pulled the video.

Google’s Android reaches 1 billion device activation milestone

Today Google's Senior Vice President and current head of Android Sundar Pichai just shocked the Android world by posting a few beautifully timed posts on his social network pages. For one he has confirmed the next version of Android will be 4.4 (not 5.0) and will be called KitKat. Say goodbye to Key Lime Pie. Not only that, but the Android train cannot be stopped, and we've reached another milestone.
