Heml.is secure messaging app reaches funding goal

We first heard talk of the Heml.is secure messaging app a few days back and as of a bit more recent, it looks like they have reached their funding goal. This all comes by way of the Heml.is Blog where they mention how the funding goal was reached in 36 hours and they now have to get to work. That being said, the Heml.is app is being touted as a secure messenger app with a beautiful design.

BlackBerry Messenger for Android will be arriving this summer

At present those looking to use BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) would need to be using a BlackBerry device. Moving forward though, that support will be expanding to include other platforms. We have heard plenty of rumors suggesting that BBM was coming to Android in the past, however as of today we have the official confirmation coming by way of BlackBerry. In fact, it was said that BBM will be coming to Android sometime this summer.

Google Babble unified messenger reportedly leaks

Earlier this week we reported on a new app and service coming from Google that's being called Google Babble. Which will be the companies new unified messaging service to take on Apple's iMessage and BlackBerry Messenger. Now this afternoon we have what appears to be leaked screenshots of the app, or at least a mild attempt at a mock-up design.

Skype update offers better video calling, file sharing

Skype has been a mainstay on many an Android device since it was released on the Market last year, and today's update brings it more in line with the VOIP service's desktop client. Those who aren't regular Skype users might not know this, but in addition to video and audio calls, the service also includes a full-featured instant message function, complete with file transfer. Today the Android version gets the feature, though it's focused on photos and videos at the moment.
