Instagram for Android gets 5 million downloads in one week

Guess what: Android users really, really like Instagram. Or perhaps it's more accurate to say that lots and lots of people like Instagram, and a lot of them use Android phones and tablets. At least 5 million, to be precise - today the download ticker in the Google Play Store was upgraded to "5-10 million", meaning that at this precise moment it's probably at around 5.1 million total downloads.  For an app that came out exactly one week ago, that's an astounding number... though we've got to point out that they'd be doing a lot better if they hadn't waited a year and a half before releasing a proper Android port.

Android Community Weekly: April 8th, 2012

It's been a surprisingly big week for Android, considering there were no major media shows. The beginning of the official sales for HTC's One family, an exciting concept from Google themselves, and all manner of software updates and rumor greeted the dedicated Android aficionado. If you've been busy in the week leading up to Easter or Passover, why not take this opportunity to come down from your Marshmallow Peep high and take in the recent happenings?

Some iPhone owners aren’t happy about Instagram for Android

Full disclosure: I'm not a fan of Instagram. I see very little value in low-resolution photos with minimal filters posted to an "exclusive" social network, when anyone can do the same with a smartphone and a free editor. That said, I'm glad to see the millions of Android users who were patiently waiting to get into Instagram finally have their patience rewarded. But one group of people isn't so thrilled to see Instagram's potential userbase grow by a couple hundred million: iPhone and other iOS users. And they've taken to Twitter en masse to whine about it. Aww, bless their poor little hipster hearts.

Instagram for Android Review

It's finally here! Instagram has launched for Android today, and all you amateur photographers and social media fanatics should be plenty happy to give it a try. The hugely popular photo filter and tweaking app for iOS is finally available for the Android masses, and we're taking a hands-on look below for your viewing pleasure, and compare it to ICS.

Instagram for Android finally lands in the Google Play Store

The day has finally arrived, shutterbugs: Instagram is up on the Google Play Store and ready for download. The much-anticipated photo and sharing service had been an iOS exclusive since its debut way back in 2010, but the company has been teasing hundreds of millions of Android users with the release for months. The app is free, though you'll need a free Instagram account to use it, and any Android device running 2.2 or later is welcome at the party.
