Android bags 80% of global smartphone shipments in Q2 2013

The numbers just keep pouring in. Research and consulting firm Strategy Analytics just released its latest research on smartphone shipments for the second quarter of 2013 and the figures shouldn't surprise us anymore. Android-powered smartphones comprised 80 percent of global smartphone shipment of 229.6 million units.

iOS 7 Control Center app pulled, then returned to Google Play Store

The folks from Google recently pulled a new app off of their Google Play Store due to copyright infringement claims from Apple. What was the app? An Android app that emulates the recently announced "Control Center" drawer in Apple's iOS 7. It was a complete copy of the look, feel, and basically every aspect of the upcoming iOS 7 feature, and is now readily available for Android users.

As we all know, last week the team at Apple announced and revealed their all-new and completely redesigned iOS 7. A lot of people love it, some don't, and obviously this is just the early beta stages of their new mobile OS. However, this morning a popular and well received iOS hacker and jailbreak master didn't have very kind words to say about the new OS. In fact, he's considering switching to Android.

MTV video-streaming apps come to iOS – Android will have to wait

Today the parent company to MTV, Viacom, has just launched a few new applications that deliver some pretty great features to those enjoy iOS devices like the iPhone. MTV, MTV2, and more have all been updated with full video-streaming capabilities, sneak peak previews and more. They have apps already on both iOS and Android, but just got improved. Sadly the Android versions will have to wait.

iOS 7 “parallax effect” on Android: 3D Image Live Wallpaper available now

During the Apple keynote yesterday we saw a lot of interesting and exciting new things with iOS 7, many of which have been available on Android for some time, but we won't get into that now. The most impressive new feature and UI aspect (for me) was this "liveliness" 3D wallpaper doing the parallax effect. Showing the background image move as you tilt the device. Thanks to an eagle-eyed reader we've learned this is nothing new for Android. Check out our hands-on below of what surely is my favorite new app.

iTunes Radio free vs Google Music’s monthly fee

Yesterday, Apple put all the rumors to rest and officially announced their next entry into the music world with iTunes Radio. A music streaming service from Apple has been speculated about for years, and now that it's finally here we wanted to compare it with Google's offering. Apple is late to the subscription-based streaming party, but have a pretty good plan that has me questioning my Google Music All Access subscription already.
