After the initial reports went around that Huawei was preparing a massive 6.1-inch smartphone to be called the Ascend Mate we weren't sure what to think. Then after a few leaks it was spotted and revealed late last week by one of Huawei's own execs. Today however we're getting another look at this massive smartphone that's gearing up to take on the Note II.

It seems everyone is getting into the phablet smartphone game as of late. Add in the new tier of 1080p displays, quad-core processors, and large batteries and what you get is the new Huawei Ascend Mate. We first mentioned this phone back in October, but recently a Huawei exec has indeed confirmed this phone is coming soon. More details and additional specs can be found below.

The somewhat popular Chinese brand Huawei has been making great progress as of late with their Android offerings. The folks from Huawei have been releasing impressive phones with their own in-house quad-core processors, large batteries, and trying to "get it right" according to them. While they still aren't there yet, a new smartphone leaked from a GLBenchmark shows some promise.

Huawei reveals quad-core Ascend D Quad and D Quad XL
After months of teasing, Huawei's finally pulled the wraps off of its new high-end flagship, the Ascend D Quad. The company intends to play with the big boys by cramming a quad-core processor and a 4.5-inch 720p screen into a svelte 8.9mm Android smartphone - with Ice Cream Sandwich on the side. But what's most interesting isn't necessarily the phone itself: inside you'll find Huawei's own Arm-based quad-core processor, the K3V2. According to Huawei, this new design is both faster and more efficient than Nvidia's Tegra 3, which we were expecting to see - we'll wait until some real-world benchmarks to draw our own conclusions.
