HTC Thunderbolt getting Gingerbread by Summer
A frustrated HTC Thunderbolt customer trying to troubleshoot an compatibility issue with Bluetooth nearly forgot all his troubles this week. In an email reply, HTC reps responded that the Thunderbolt will be getting an update in the second quarter of the 2011 that while not addressing the Bluetooth issue, will bring Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) to the 4G handset. Of course, that's HTCs time table. It will also have to clear Verizon before a roll out will commence, but the list of improvements look to really boost what is already a killer Android handset.

HTC ThunderBolt BodyGuardz Carbon Fiberish Armor Application [CTIA 2011]
This year at CTIA 2011, SlashGear and Android Community were contacted by a group called BodyGuardz. This is a group that creates and skins for devices of many shapes and sizes, most notably for us the Motorola XOOM tablet and the HTC ThunderBolt. What BodyGuardz enticed us with was the prospect of getting 2 of their very first custom-cut-on-site HTC ThunderBolt wraps. These wraps were so fresh off the press that the paper backing had no brand and a freshly cut edge. It was like we were in the lab! We were so pumped up that we had to take a couple videos showing the application for all of you to see the loveliness.

HTC Thunderbolt Download 30+ Skins for Sense UI 2.0
So everyone has started to get their new and awesome HTC Thunderbolts over the last week or so. I'm sure you all love it. For those like me that always want to tinker, or change how things look we have a little treat for you. A XDA member by the name of sopL87 has made a huge collection of unique and nice looking skins for your Sense 2.0 device. They work on the Thunderbolt as well as the Desire HD and basically any Sense 2.0 device. Here are a few of my favorite.

HTC Thunderbolt Easyroot with S-Off now Available
Earlier in the week we told you about a root method for the newly popular HTC Thunderbolt . The original root method was very long, and pretty difficult. Probably for advanced users only. I know I've seen many reports on twitter that people didn't want to get into all that and were waiting for a 1-Click root, or easyroot. Well today I have that, here is Easyroot.

HTC ThunderBolt Hands-On and Unboxing

HTC ThunderBolt Hands-On and Unboxing
Behold the big bolt! This is the HTC ThunderBolt, Verizon's first 4G LTE handset - and boy what a whopper. It's epic nature is flaunted in an instantly apparent way as the box itself is wholly black with 3D pushed-out lettering and logos all around. HTC, Verizon, 4G LTE, and HTC ThunderBolt are blasted in such delicate ways as to accentuate the godliness and singularity of the device itself. Then you open the box and BOOM there's a wash of red. Verizon could not have chosen a better set of colors in black, white, and red, and they're certainly not afraid to use it when they've got such a flagship phone as this. Harsh elegance!

HTC Thunderbolt Full Root and Bootloader Unlock Instructions
Uh Oh, looks like HTC has failed again. For some odd reason all these manufacturers insist on trying to lock down these devices. I think they should just embrace the custom ROM and hacker community. After all it's extremely popular and has totally helped Android become what it is today. I'm just waiting for CyanogenMod Phone One to be released so we don't have to ever worry about rooting ever again. (Happy Face)

HTC ThunderBolt Extended Battery [Hands-On]

HTC ThunderBolt Extended Battery [Hands-On]
SO we found out that an extended battery pack for the HTC ThunderBolt existed and we did the right thing - jammed out to the store and picked one up. This battery pack has the 4G LTE mark on it on the bottom, an HTC sticker in the center back, and it's fat. It's definitely made for the product, as the edges do indeed meet up with the sides of the handset, but it's fat. Very fat. That doesn't mean that we're not going to use it, however, as long battery life is something we LOOOVE.

HTC ThunderBolt Perm Rooted

HTC ThunderBolt Perm Rooted
So we had a little look over at the XDA Forums at the root of the ThunderBolt before it was released, and yes, that is always impressive. But it wasn't permanent! What we love to see is that permanence, the real test of weather the phone is really rooted or just wearing a Halloween mask. Well let me tell you what's happened essentially overnight - perm root. Indeedy yes, it was user jcase who let the world know that with the first step being a showing on the 16th, the 17th at nearly midnight the real test was accomplished.

HTC Thunderbolt battery life to get extended options

HTC Thunderbolt battery life to get extended options
It's no secret that part of the delay of the Verizon HTC Thunderbolt release was do to the challenging battery life of the handset on the 4G/LTE network. In SlashGear's review today, that was never more obvious when solely relying on 4G for average use, the Thunderbolt red barred after less than 3 hours. And even though coupling 4G with WiFi the battery life becomes comparable with other HTC 4G options, clearly something needs to be done. HTC is addressing battery life concerns by announcing they will be selling an optional extended life battery in the near future.
