HTC employee goes on record: “Sorry about the Thunderbolt”

HTC hasn't always been the most popular Android handset maker and while the One appears to holding its own, the same can't be said about a previous handset, the HTC Thunderbolt. Without getting into any specifics, it appears as if one HTC employee has recently taken to the web and offered an apology of sorts.

Yesterday the folks from Verizon and HTC posted up details confirming that the aging HTC Thunderbolt smartphone was set to receive a software update this week. Initially I thought it could be a cruel April Fools joke, but turns out this was real because users have already started reporting the update is live. For all you Thunderbolt fans you'll want to stay tuned.

It looks like today Verizon and HTC have approved an update to the aging yet still somewhat popular HTC Thunderbolt. For the 12 of you still using that phone, we have some potentially good news although the update certainly is not Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Instead it looks like HTC has a few bugs they've fixed and we can expect to see this arrive soon.

Never say never folks! Just as we announced late last week, the good guys over at HTC have apparently been working on an update for the aging HTC Thunderbolt. It's long overdue, but we can now confirm Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is indeed rolling out as we speak to the first 4G LTE device from Verizon. It's a miracle, and we're glad to see it.

You'll never believe this, but HTC and Verizon have just confirmed and approved the update to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich for the LTE-packing device. After initially hoping for an August release date, multiple delays, and lost hope of many the update is finally being delivered.

And while we may have some good news for those still rocking a Thunderbolt, we caution you not to get super excited. After all, this is far from the first time we have heard of an update coming for the aging handset.

We have some bad but somewhat expected news for all you Bolt owners this afternoon. After HTC announced multiple times that they would indeed be updating multiple devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich during the month of August, Thunderbolt included, sadly that didn't quite happen. The update won't be arriving yet and HTC's issued a statement.

We have great news this evening for all those fans still rocking the HTC ThunderBolt. Yup, Ice Cream Sandwich is finally here thanks to an official build that was apparently leaked. The actual update to Android 4.0.3 was leaked and a few awesome developers have made it into an easy to flash ROM for those interested.

HTC has announced a time frame for the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for many of its devices through Facebook. The company was responding to a flood of users asking when their particular device will be getting the ICS update, such as the Thunderbolt and Desire S. The time frame given for both of those devices was "by the end of August," so watch out HTC faithful, because it looks like you'll be getting Ice Cream Sandwich pretty quickly here.

It looks like Verizon and HTC haven't completely forgot about the once reigning champion in the HTC ThunderBolt. A new software build for the ThunderBolt was leaked today although sadly this appears to still be Android 2.3 Gingerbread -- no Ice Cream Sandwich just yet. Most likely this has been scratched for the Android 4.0 update we are still waiting for, but this brings some improvements for those interested.
