It’s been another great week for tech news, and we’ll fill you in on what you may have missed in this issue of Android Community Weekly! This past Sunday, Chris Burns reviewed the Pantech Crossover - the first Android device by Pantech to hit the United States. T-Mobile’s HTC Flyer tablet hit the FCC early in the week as well; unfortunately, there is still no information regarding any type of 4G capability.

HTC EVO Shift 4G Getting Gingerbread 2.3 OTA Starting June 20th
Uh oh, it looks like someone has some insider information regarding a few of those EVO branded devices. A new report is just coming in that the HTC EVO Shift 4G will also be receiving an OTA update on Monday June 20th, but this will be the update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. We can assume that the fixes that are said to start rolling out on the 20th for the EVO 4G will be included in the Shift 4G's update to fix any of the same issues.

Red Inspire 4G, Purple EVO Shift Coming to Radio Shack?
When we did our hands-on of the HTC Inspire 4G, we were impressed with the screen, and just the sheer size of the thing. This is "a fast phone for fast people". Well it looks like that Inspire 4G is going to get a little flashier, because Engadget was tipped that a red version is coming to Radio Shack. Check it out:

Sprint doubles down on Android for 4G
With Verizon rolling out their 4G LTE network in over 200 cities this year, and the inevitable rumor mill of a 4G iPhone on the horizon, wireless telecom Sprint isn't sitting on their laurels.  In an effort to shore up their lead on the superfast 4G network race, Sprint will be adding more 4G supported Android devices this year. With a current offering of about twenty 4G devices, Sprint will be bumping up their Android4G offerings to more than seventy percent of their mobile catalog.

HTC EVO Shift 4G on Sprint 2.6.32 Kernel and T-Mobile myTouch 3G Froyo MR 2.6.32 Kernel Available from HTC Now
If you'll have yourself a fine little click on over to HTC's quietly brilliant Developer center, you'll find yourself a couple of updated files ready for downloading, that being a HTC EVO Shift 4G on Sprint 2.6.32 kernel source code and T-Mobile myTouch 3G Froyo MR 2.6.32 kernel source code, and there's no longer way of saying it than that.

HTC EVO Shift 4G Permaroot by bcnice20 and Pals
The smaller brother of the EVO crew, HTC EVO Shift 4G, has just received its first permaroot. This is thanks to the crew over at XDA Developers Forums, in particular bcnice20 and some dev friends of his or hers (Joeykrim, Toastcfh, scotty2, Guhl, preludedrew, and riggsandroid and Cosine83.) This means that you'll be able to go wild and crazy with your device, hacking it all to pieces and putting it back together again as you see fit.

HTC EVO Shift 4G Now $89.99 on Amazon
Taking a lead from their other sale for the HTC Evo 4G, (which is not $99 from Amazon,) the online seller has reduced the price of the HTC EVO Shift 4G to $89.99, $10 cheaper than it's big brother. We've got a little bit of a review of the Shift if you'd like to take a look at it, then get over there and slap down a bill to buy it!

Amazon Drops Samsung Epic 4G Price to $99
This is fabulous considering the fact that Sprint, even after dropping it's price down $50 from its release, still has the device up for sale for $199.99. Amazon seems to be rocking pretty hard (as always) with the cheaper pricing on phones - earlier today news had it that Amazon was selling HTC EVO Shift 4G for $119.99, again cheaper than directly from it's carrier (again, Sprint,) this time by $50.

HTC to Ship Around 10 Million 4G Smartphones in 2011
And that's only 20% of HTC's total shipments! Man, it's like they're a giant brand or something. Digitimes is reporting that HTC's 4G-enabled smartphones working with either WiMAX or LTE will top 10 million units in 2011. That's a lotta hooch. HTC is also said to have shipped 3.5 million 4G phones in 2010, 3 million of those being HTC EVO 4Gs to Sprint and 500,000 HTPA+ myTouch 4G units to T-Mobile. The groups responsible for this giant jump in shipments are again Verizon and Sprint, but also clients in Europe and Japan.

HTC EVO 4G Video Ad Modified to Add Shift
You've seen it, right? That commercial with the gigantic text sitting around in a Madonna's "Frozen" landscape, a little Android character zooming around via its foot cannons. That's the one. That commercial is being re-released to the world with one addition: HTC EVO Shift 4G plopped down at the tail end. Looks cute!
