HTC Eris

The Moment 2 Passes the FCC?

Usually when a handset passes the FCC it’s really close to being released. The Samsung M910 is expected to be the Moment 2 and it has just passed through the FCC. Looks like the original Moment will have a short lifespan just like the HTC Eris. Hopefully 2.1 still get pushed to both of these devices, Sprint has pretty much confirmed the update for both their current Android devices so it’s now a waiting game.

Android 2.1 leaked onto Droid Eris

There’s quite a few Verizon Droid Eris owners out there hankering for the features only available to newer Android versions, considering the last alleged update was something of a slip-up.  An updated build has been leaked on XDA Developers, and the link to instructions is available after the cut.

Android 2.1 update finally comes to Droid Eris?

While we haven’t been able to fully confirm yet, evidence of the Droid Eris finally receiving an update (OTA, and Android 2.1 for that matter) has surfaced moments ago, and backed up by more than a few web denizens.

HTC Droid Eris Might Receive Android 2.1 Update in Early 2010

Lets face it, as soon as we learn about the leaked Hero 2.1 Eclair ROM, we knew it was just a matter of time before we could get our hands on the official release. According to InformationWeek, the update to Android 2.0, or 2.1 for at least one version of the Hero, is coming. According to Verizon Wireless, the HTC Droid Eris will be receiving a significant system update at some point in the fist quarter of 2010. This update will boost the version of Android on the HTC Eris, to at least 2.0. But there are even better news; that the update might possibly be Android 2.1. We know that Android just had some minor updates to the SDK, and now there's word of Android 2.0 or 2.1 coming to the Eris, so hold on tight, 2010 is just around the corner. Verizon spokesperson Brenda Raney told InformationWeek, "The Droid Eris currently using Android 1.5, can and will be upgraded to newer a Android operating system software in first quarter 2010. The enhancement will allow customers to continue to enjoy the powerful HTC Sense experience while also gaining the additional benefits of Google Maps Navigation." Raney also said that, based on the timing, the Droid Eris will be updated to either Android 2.0 or 2.1.

Buy the Motorola DROID and Get the ERIS by HTC or a Select Phone for Free

It's no doubt we are in December, many companies have Holiday sales going on already, like Verizon Wireless. The company is having a special weekend sale from today until Monday, in which you can buy the Motorola DROID and Get the ERIS by HTC or a Select Phone for Free. You can also buy one HTC Eris for $99.99 and get another Eris or another "select" phone for free. So as you can see, you have choices, but if you already on the market for a new phone, and Verizon is the carrier you want, why waste your money and time on something else than an Android phone. Just hurry, because this special sale ends on Monday. And remember that the prices are after a 2 year agreement and whatever discounts they have. There's also people who need a phone for themselves and another phone for their partner, friend or relative, so this is a good option to get a DROID for each. The bad news is, you cannot buy a Motorola DROID and get another Motorola DROID for free. The good news are: First, if you are a Verizon subscriber already, and eligible for a new phone with a discount, the DROID by Motorola will set you back only $149.99, instead of $199.99. Second, if you bought a DROID or DROID Eris in the past 30 days from Verizon, then you might be able to get this deal as well. So there you have it folks, let us know in the comments area if you are buying a new DROID this weekend. Or if you already did in the last 30 days, and are planning to get a second line with service with a free Eris, let us know if Verizon honors this deal.

Sprint HTC Hero to get a Maintenance Release Soon, Best Buy Selling it for $99.99

As we all know, the Sprint Hero by HTC comes with Android 1.6 (oopss) 1.5, and many Hero users are waiting anxiously for the Eclair update. There's word from the Sprint Community blog about an upcoming update for the Hero, unfortunately, it appears to be just a maintenance release. According to SarahKS (Sprint Admin.), a "maintenance release is being developed for the Hero to address key items such as SMS and DST issues." She also said that the target launch will be in the "next few weeks", but she doesn't know the exact date or what is going to be included on this MR. She ends her post making a promise to update as soon as she gets more info on the matter. Now better news, at least for those who want to get a new HTC Hero. If you are amongst those who don't like the HTC Eris, but do like the shape of the Sprint Hero, BestBuy has a deal for you. They are selling the Sprint HTC Hero for $99.99 after instant discount with a new Sprint account. I personally like the Hero from Sprint better, and besides, the plans with that carrier are cheaper and give you more for your hard earn. Although that doesn't matter if you don't have good Sprint coverage where you live.

Finally, Verizon makes the official announcement for the DROID ERIS by HTC

Well, guess what, after several pictures leaked and a premature unboxing, Verizon finally announces officially the carrier's second DROID.
