White HTC Desire and silver HTC Wildfire special editions hands-on
Bored of the brown or black HTC Desire or the varied hues available for the HTC Wildfire?  We caught up with UK retailer The Carphone Warehouse today, and they let us in on the fact that HTC has prepped two special editions just for them. Coming to shelves in time for the holiday season are a new, white HTC Desire and a silver HTC Wildfire.  The HTC rep we spoke to said this was something of a departure for the company - usually they just prepare an initial range of colors and that's it - but certainly we're glad they did.  The white Desire is particularly appealing, and in the absence of a white iPhone 4 we reckon there'll be plenty of smartphone buyers keen to cross over to Android from iOS. No word on specific availability, but the new models will be the same prices as their regular counterparts: usually from free with a new agreement. [gallery]

Orange HTC Desire Android 2.2 update delayed to mid-September
Bad news for Orange UK customers waiting for Android 2.2 Froyo on their HTC Desire.  On the same day that Verizon began pushing out Froyo for the Droid Incredible, the UK carrier has announced a delay in getting the update ROM from HTC.  As such, the Android 2.2 update for the Orange HTC Desire now isn't expected to be released until mid-September 2010. Orange hasn't given any specific reasons for the delay, but does insist that it's nothing to do with the carrier's own services on the handset.

U.S. Cellular launch HTC Desire for $200
We're big HTC Desire fans here at Android Community, and so it comes as great news to hear that U.S. Cellular have finally got around to selling the smartphone in the US.  Hitherto Europe/Asia only, the Desire is priced at $199.95 after a mail-in rebate and presuming a new, two-year agreement; it's not available on prepaid plans. The actual model is the so-called Super LCD variant that HTC switched to producing after facing ongoing AMOLED panel shortages.  Otherwise it's the same as we've seen before, so you get a 5-megapixel autofocus camera, HTC Sense interface, Android 2.1, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and an 8GB microSD card in the box.

HTC Desire for T-Mobile UK Getting Android 2.2 in September
The roll out for Android 2.2, or Froyo, has gone relatively better than expected. It's managed to make its way to some devices that many didn't think would get it until the end of the year (like, Christmas time), and we've even seen a device officially launch with the updated mobile Operating System. With that being said, though, there's still plenty of folks out there waiting for their update. For example, T-Mobile UK customers out there with the HTC manufactured Desire? They're still waiting.

HTC Desire Landing on US Cellular Shelves on August 27th
August is turning out to be a pretty big month for Android, and not just in the software side of things. With the launch of plenty of Android-based devices, on several networks here in the States, it should come as no surprise that some of the regional carriers out here want to get their hands on some high-profile devices. For one such carrier, US Cellular, the HTC Desire is their device of choice.

HTC Desire for Vodafone Getting Android 2.2 in the Coming Week or So
When the Vodafone-branded HTC Desire got Android 2.1, it was blanketed with plenty of Vodafone's 360 features. So much so, in fact, that plenty of customers out there weren't happy with the update to their software version at all. Thankfully, Vodafone's one of those wireless companies that actually listen to their customers, and have answered back, and informing customers just want it means to get the Android 2.2 update. Which, for the record, is supposed to be releasing in the next seven to 10 days.

HTC Desire Upgraded to Android 2.2 Next Week?
The HTC Desire is one of those devices that, the moment you look at it, you just know it should be running the latest and greatest software. It's just got that look and feel. And, while it may have the same specifications as the Nexus One, there's one big thing that keeps it from getting updates as fast as that vanilla-based device. HTC's Sense UI. Well apparently it's not too bad, because according to some recent tweets from HTC's Regional Director, Mark Moon, Android 2.2 may be coming next week.
