Vodafone HTC Desire HD Android 2.3 Gingerbread update goes live

Vodafone has begun pushing out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire HD, only a day after HTC began distributing the generic version of the upgrade. As with the general version, it brings the Desire HD up to the same software level as the HTC Desire S. In addition to the usual bugfixes, Vodafone's changelist suggests the following tweaks:
  • Enhancements to the user interface (simpler and slicker)
  • New Android Keyboard,  with easy copy/paste feature
  • Improved Power Management
  • Internet Calling support
  • Multiple Camera Management (front and back)
As far as we know, Vodafone is the first UK carrier to get their branded version of Gingerbread for the Desire HD into the wild. Let us know how you get on with the upgrade in the comments.

HTC Desire HD and Incredible S Android 2.3 Gingerbread going OTA now

HTC has confirmed it is pushing out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S. The OTA update will be flagged up with a message on the smartphones themselves, and bring the handsets up to speed with newer HTC devices like the HTC Desire S. Of course you'll still have HTC Sense and all the usual apps, but we're expecting a little extra speed and stability thanks to the joys of Gingerbread. HTC advises backing up your phone before you upgrade, though it's not clear if the update will actually wipe your phone in the process. We're checking our Desire HD now and will report back when we find out more. Let us know how you get on in the comments!

HTC Pyramid ROM ported to HTC Desire HD

The gang at XDA has done it again, this time, "CapyChimp" has managed to port the HTC Pyramid Rom to the HTC Desire HD ... and it only took 24 hours. Now granted, with such a slap dash effort to get it ported and out, there's some more work to be done. A LOT of work, in order to iron out the bugs. But it does give users a chance to poke around the neighborhood some. Let's take a look ...

HTC to “Widgetize” Sense Lockscreen

Our good pal Ina Fried from Mobilized recently had a talk with Chief Product Officer Kouji Kodera from HTC. What he had to show was a rather interesting set of upgrades for HTC's signature Android user interface "Sense." This is the interface you're using if you've got your HTC ThunderBolt working with no homescreen replacement app running- and if you don't know what a homescreen replacement app is, you don't have one running. So what's in store for the Sense-ual future?

HTC Desire HD Pops Up in Two 18-second Ads

For those of you rolling hard with the HTC Inspire 4G, you know the glory of the undeniably gigantic screen and smoothness of the case in your hands. Were you aware that there's another phone out there that's essentially exactly the same as yours, with a different name? The HTC Desire HD runs on a different network (Telus,) and has different radio software than the Inspire 4G, but for the most part, save for a few odd issues that have arisen because of the UK/USA bits of insides. What we've got here is a couple of commercials that were released today, both of them for the Desire HD, but work just as well for those looking for some more pazazz in their Inspire 4G video spots.

myTouch 4G Source Offered Up by HTC Aside Aria, Desire Z, Desire HD

Oh you lovers of the insides of phones, today is one of those good days. Good days for the HTC involved, that is, as several phones have had their Android source codes released via HTC's Developer Center per their agreement that they'll do so no matter what they're doing with Android, an open-source project. The phones on the block to be chopped and screwed are the myTouch 4G, Desire Z, Aria, and Desire HD. If you're a fan of any of those, we're looking at you myTouch 4G fans, we encourage you to explore the code and bring the community some lovely tidbits that we might feast upon them with joy.

HTC Desire HD in Black Coming to Orange UK

Just as what happened last year with Orange and the original HTC Desire, the carrier is now planning to offer up the Desire HD in an exclusive Black Edition. Their webpage has been updated with a holding page for the incoming device and it should be the same device just sporting a new black exterior.
