HP Slate 7 price drop makes it harder to consider the Nexus 7

It would be nice to pretend to live in a world where price doesn't matter, but that is often a key deciding factor when it comes to getting new gadgets. With that in mind, price drops on existing gadgets are generally welcomed and it looks like HP has done just that with the Slate 7 tablet. This price drop is for the 8GB and 16GB model, which are now priced at $139.99 and $169.99 respectively.

HP exec confirms smartphone is in the works

Lately we've been seeing the popular PC manufacturer HP get back into the mobile space with their recently released HP Slate 7. Before that was their failed tablet running WebOS, and along with it were rumors of a smartphone. This week however, one of HP's top execs has just confirmed a smartphone is still in the pipeline. Most likely it will run Android, but that wasn't confirmed.

HP Slate 21 unveiled with 21.5-inch display and Jelly Bean

We have seen Slate branded devices from HP and we have seen all-in-one desktop computer style devices from HP. As of today however, it looks like the company has merged the two lines with a uniquely sized system running Android. Specifically, this system will be running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, though we suspect the size of the device may be more important here.

HP Slate 7 arrives as potential Nexus 7 competition

With just a few days to spare in April, HP has officially launched the Slate 7 tablet for those in the US market. Given HP had been pretty forthcoming in terms of details, this launch comes with little in terms of surprise. Basically, that is to say the 7-inch Jelly Bean tablet is now available and sitting priced at $169.99.
