Pelican launches two new cases for Samsung Galaxy S III [Hands-on]
The heavy duty case company Pelican who is known for their hard, durable, and waterproof cases for everything from cameras to rifles is entering the smartphone business. Pelican has actually offered a few waterproof "cases" in the past, but they were more of a bag or box completely protecting the device. At CES we learned they'll be offering actual every day cases soon, so here's a few hands-on pictures.

Ubuntu hands-on with the Galaxy Nexus
Ubuntu for smartphones was announced earlier in the month, and naturally, we wanted to bring you some hands-on coverage from CES. And while this is far from the first time we have seen Android and Ubuntu together, or sometimes a full install of Ubuntu crammed onto a tablet (such as the Nexus 7) -- the version of Ubuntu for smartphones is much nicer and much smoother.

YotaPhone dual-screen smartphone hands-on
Late last year the Russian company Yota announced a rather intriguing new smartphone called the YotaPhone. As I'm sure many of you are aware, this Android 4.1 Jelly Bean handset sports two displays. The front being a 4.3-inch 720p LCD display, and the rear of the device enjoys a 4.3-inch E-ink screen. It's a neat concept and we were able to enjoy some time with a prototype unit earlier today and we came away rather impressed.

Sony Xperia Z hands-on [Video]
Sony has revealed its new flagship for 2013, the Sony Xperia Z, pairing a 5-inch Full HD display with a quadcore Qualcomm S4 Pro processor, 2GB of RAM, a waterproof chassis, and a 13-megapixel camera. The company has sprinkled a little of its Sony sparkle, too, bringing in the latest Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 for improving screen quality, the Exmor RS sensor for photography - including HDR video, as well as stills - and a battery extending feature that could increase runtimes fourfold.

Huawei Ascend D2 hands-on: A 5-inch display with a quad-core 1.5GHz processor
In addition to the Ascend Mate, we also grabbed a few minutes with the Huawei Ascend D2 smartphone. Though, while this one is a smartphone as compared to the Ascend Mate, with a 5-inch display it still borders on that phablet category. But names aside, the 5-inch display on the Ascend D2 has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a PPI of 443 -- both nice in every respect.

Huawei Ascend Mate hands-on: A 6.1-inch display with a massive 4050 mAh battery
The Huawei press event is currently underway and we managed to steal a few moments with the Ascend Mate before things got underway. The handset, as had been rumored -- is massive. The Ascend Mate does in fact have the 6.1-inch display, however that is not where the massive stops. We could also describe the battery as rather large as it comes in at 4050 mAh.
