Google Nexus S

Android Community Daily Wrap Up: January 19 2011

There's fire in our collective hearts as a rogue Motorola representative tells the Android developer community to buy elsewhere. We get all happy again though as there's a sweet little animation featuring nothing less than an Android Exploding an Apple Logo, then a video of a Nexus S equipped man getting crushed by a vending machine, and we get a super cute little Android Chinese God of Wealth in the mail. Rally against the rules as Kongregate and their 300 free games deal is dashed by Google, then wait at the door expectantly as Bejeweled 2 comes this week, Plants vs. Zombies and Peggle come this Summer, and Nexus One receives Gingerbread SOON - they swear!

Nexus S Equipped Man Trapped Under Vending Machine for Days

It's unclear whether the following series is actually officially affiliated with Google or if it's a fun project done by a fan, but what is clear is that these ad spots are awesome and hilarious. This series follows the epic journey of a man who gets caught underneath a vending machine at the office he works at and has to continue working as Assistant Regional Manager despite the fact that he remains stuck under the machine the entire series of five videos, and he wants to be called El Vendor! Where does Android come in?

Nexus One to Receive Gingerbread SOON

A Google representative was apparently recently chatting with a mister HR Raphael of ComputerWorld today informed the writer that not only will Android 2.3 be rolling out toward the Nexus One soon, there've been no unexpected hurdles in getting the update ready to go. Sounds good to me. This comes at a time when the Nexus S already has such an upgrade (or rather, was shipped out with it installed already,) and the world is waiting for both Gingerbread and Honeycomb on their devices. LG Pecan to be NFC Phone Launched at Mobile World Congress 2011

Two Korean publications, PlusNews and Etnews are suggesting that LG is planning to release a $200 (USD) mass market phone that's got built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) capabilities and goes by the name of LG Pecan. Cute! A strange turn in both stories is that this phone will be running Android 2.2, which, as you know, does not include native support for NFC. On the other hand, both publications say they do have a direct line to LG - which I don't think is too far out of reality to be true, so let's listen in!

German Android 2.4 Nexus S Phone [Developments]

Last night we gave you a bit of a news bit that had to do with both an FCC filing and a video that showed a German fellow holding a phone that appeared to be a Nexus S device running Android 2.4 (this video and FCC filing are in the gallery below, or you can take a [click back] to that post if you'd like as well.) Now what we see today, courtesy of MobiFlip, is a closeup picture of a screen of a German language based phone that again says its Nexus S phone and is running Android 2.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich.)

Nexus S Random Reboot Issue Reported to Google, Being Worked On

Perhaps you've got a Nexus S, and perhaps you've been totally fine with everything it's capable of (and it's capable of a lot!) but you've got one problem - random rebooting. Not ok! So what do you do? You do like WestindiesKING did, and report it to Google! This is exactly what happened back a few days ago on the 29th of December [See Here]. Now there's a brand new response from Ry_Guy (a Google official) which says that indeed they have been able to reproduce this error, and are working on it.

Nexus S Graphics Drivers for crespo Available for Download Today

Mister Jean-Baptiste Queru, a fellow who lives inside the Android Building, lets the world know today that the latest official graphics drivers for crespo (aka the Nexus S hardware) are available for free download from Google's servers. These drivers work with the Android platform source code named android-2.3.1_r1, and Queru reminds us all to be well read on the included license terms so that you do no anger the Google gods who have been so kind to us and are deserving of our gratitude. Bow down before them!

Exclusive: Nexus S overclocked to 1.3GHz running flawlessly – Demo

We have been following up with Team Whiskey very closely, a well known development team that reaches out to XDA Developers. Our staff has installed their Trinity v1.3 ROM and can vouch for its stability in every area of functionality. This is Team Whiskey's latest release and has proved some amazing quadrant scores in comparison to the stock ROM on the Nexus S. You can clearly see how much higher the Trinity ROM + Kernal's CPU score is compared to stock. The voltage was also increased from the standard 1.2V to 1.4V. When the voltage is pushed higher, the memory increases as well. As we know, quadrant scores aren't everything. We need our smartphones to be extremely reliable and would prefer them to be as fast as possible. That's why we decided all of our visitors at Android Community deserve a true tour of an overclocked Nexus S. The below video displays the fastest phone we have yet to cover. Samsung Galaxy S2 the next Google Nexus S?

The Samsung Galaxy S2 may not just be a face-lift from the Google Nexus S. The new phone is expected to have all of the bells and whistles as the attractive Nexus S, but exhibit a dual core processor as well. It will be running (at least) Android 2.3, but with the skinned modifications we see on every Galaxy S device.
