The wildly popular and extremely fun game Temple Run for iOS is coming to Android, just like we told you last month. After a huge response from readers hoping for the game we have some bad news. Sadly after numerous rumors claimed February 9th was the official launch date we can now confirm that this hugely successful game is still coming soon, but not tomorrow.

After reaching out to Imangi Studios regarding the Android version, and checking progress over on their Facebook page we have learned that the release date was never announced and was never official on February 9th. Instead, progress is moving along quickly and they’ll be announcing a release date soon once it’s ready. According to numerous tweets we should still expect Temple Run for Android within this month, but as usual nothing is confirmed.

So there you have it folks. For everyone wondering, no it will not be released tomorrow, but hopefully before the end of the month we’ll have an update or even better — a release. This will be their first Android release and they want to get it right. I’ll be sure and follow progress for this game and will report back once we hear anything more. Be sure to stay tuned right here at Android Community for a full review once the game becomes available.

Imagine, if you will, a classic two-dimensional platformer of the Mega Man or Ghosts and Goblins ilk. Plenty of twitch jumping and running, and taking out humorously proportioned sprite bad guys with improbable methods of self defense. Got it? OK, now imagine that your hero character is half a pound of ground beef. That’s the gist of Super Meat Boy, a flash game that gained acclaim when it was published to the Xbox Live Arcade and later desktop computers. According to remarks made by developer Team Meat (I’m sensing a theme here) their next game will probably come out on mobile devices.

Of course that’s no guarantee of an Android version, at least for most games. But lead developer Tommy Refenes has made his preferences well known over the last year or so, loudly proclaiming his distaste for the iPhone, the iTunes App Store and Apple in general. In short, he’s our kind of dev. “If it comes out, it’ll come out for everything at the same time. I like Android more than I like iOS.” Thanks, Tommy – so do we. Since the company’s CEO has indicated that the next project would be coming to the iPhone, that’s a pretty good indication that it’s headed to Android, too.

Super Meat Boy started out as an in-browser Flash game, attracting digital masochists with its punishing difficulty. The gist is that Meat Boy must rescue his girlfriend Bandage Girl from the evil Dr. Fetus. Yes, really. Players must navigate a nightmarish 2D landscape of buzz saws, spikes and other massive tools of dismemberment. If you die, you meaty former self remains stuck to the landscape in various states of dismemberment. Upon its release on XBLA, it received nearly universal acclaim from reviewers. It’s possible that Team Meat’s next game will be something outside of the Super Meat Boy universe… but come on, they call themselves Team Meat. You can play the original here.

If you want to see the latest and greatest games coming to Android a good place to look is NVIDIA’s Tegra Zone. While we first saw Meltdown on Mars back in late November last year the developers have been working hard and making huge progress to make this Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 exclusive game come to Android. Latest updates from NVIDIA show this awesome action-packed tower defense game is set to launch this month, and we can’t wait to try it out.

If you were a fan of Gun Bro’s or some other top-view games on Android then you’ll definetaly want to play Meltdown On Mars. Mix a little of Gun Bro’s in with action packed tower defense style gameplay and this is what you get. Not only do you have tanks, turrets, barricades and many other means to support and defend yourself — but the player can move around and shoot incoming enemies himself. Making this more of a 3rd person shooter AND tower defense both.

Thanks to the power of the NVIDIA Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 quad-core processor this game will feature realistic effects and real-time lighting. The graphics look smooth and fluid and the levels and engaging and full of detail. This is popular tower-defense style gaming that meets action shooter and I’ll be giving it a try as soon as possible and will be sure to let everyone know what I think. Stay tuned for more details. It should be landing in the Android Market and NVIDIA Tegra Zone sometime this month.

While PC gamers like yours truly were ecstatic when Valve finally released its official Steam app on the Android Market, the software itself left a little to be desired in its initial version. Of course that’s to be expected in a beta release, but the combination of closed access and slow, protracted animations even on high-end phones made for a frustrating experience at times. Valve solved one problem when it opened the beta app up to everyone, then another today, with the application of its latest update.

The 1.0.3 version of Steam includes better support for Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich’s native graphical acceleration, which should make for some speed improvements on the applicable devices. Stability enhancements should make it run better on older phones as well, especially 2.1 phones, where store browsing is now enabled. A few UI tweaks like automatic links in chat make for smoother use all around. Based on a few minutes of tinkering with my own Steam account the overall app seems very much improved, and more like the ubiquitous desktop version – kudos, Valve.

You can download the app for free in the Android Market for just about any Android phone or tablet. Of course, your choices in Steam access are significantly curtailed after dozens of third-party Steam apps disappeared from the Market without notice. Valve still hasn’t commented on the removal, but a few have come back under different names: the unofficial ”Steam for Android” app that we previously covered is now “Vapor for Android ” (nice), and can be downloaded in the Market for free once again. This solidifies the idea that Valve objected to other Steam apps on copyright grounds.

With the Super Bowl quickly approaching EA has decided to drop the price on what I’d consider the best football game for Android down to just $0.99 cents for the weekend. Making sure many of us are playing football on our Android devices this weekend while preparing for the big game.

To celebrate the end of the season and Super Bowl Sunday EA has dropped the price down from the usual $4.99 to just $0.99 cents for the weekend. If you’re not sure if you should get this game and have been holding out, now would be a good time. Being officially licensed by the NFL you have full stats, player names, numbers and more. It is as accurate and realistic as it gets. Having all of that on a small mobile game really is quite impressive and it’s one of my favorite games.

We aren’t the only ones getting in on the action here in the US either. The UK version has also seen the same price drop for those not in the US and looking to join in on the fun that us Americans call “football”. The deal is for a limited time only and will most likely raise to full price come Monday so I’d get it while you can. While most devices are supported, including the Transformer Prime on Ice Cream Sandwich sadly the Galaxy Nexus is still not compatible. Hopefully an update will resolve that but in the mean time get it while it’s hot.

We have an interesting application that just landed in our inbox today and figured we’d share it with our readers. NFC is still a niche in Android that has yet to really take off — although Android Beam should help things out. Today we have an NFC app that is actually fun, and not just for mobile payments. Meet Sound Pound NFC.

According to the creators this app is like a fist pound with sound. Or as I’d like to put it — an NFC high five but with audio. While in general the app is not all that useful it is quite neat and shows us one of many different types of uses NFC is capable of. With Sound Pound NFC you can share a personalized audio greeting with your friends just by touching phones together. Obviously they need to be NFC capable and that could pose a problem as those are still pretty limited.

Being announce today over on Google+ Sound Pound NFC has actually been available in the Android Market since late December. Sound Pound NFC has built-in sounds that users can choose or you can create and record your own. I can see a few of my friends abusing this app myself, so that should be fun. It will run you a small fee of $0.99 for those interested and you can get it right now from the link below.

Piracy is a touchy subject and has been looked down upon by many many different markets, Android included. Obviously we all know how the music industry feels on the matter, and we’ve seen the countless attacks and results from their approach. When it comes to Android or apps in general some might feel different. The creators of Angry Birds, Rovio had a thing or two to say regarding the matter — and don’t really think it’s of much concern.

SlashGear’s Shane McGlaun said it best this morning by saying, “Somewhere, an RIAA supporter is crying right now.” And we’d have to agree with him. After a conference this week Rovio CEO Mikael Hed had a few interesting comments regarding piracy and their Angry Birds brand. Here are a couple of quotes:

We could learn a lot from the music industry, and the rather terrible ways the music industry has tried to combat piracy.”

Piracy may not be a bad thing: it can get us more business at the end of the day,”

Rovio admits they’ve had their share of problems with piracy, but most of which was in regards to their Angry Birds merchandise and not games themselves. There is no doubt in my mind the Rovio owners would rather users buy their games, apps, and merchandise — but they way they make it sound it doesn’t appear like they are the slightest bit concerned. For a hugely successful company such as Rovio I can understand where they are coming from, but for the average Android developer that builds an awesome game and sees lackluster sales thanks to sneaky black market app stores this could be a very different story.

I personally feel that if you like a game, you should buy it. Support developers and game creators so they can continue to impress and develop for Android, or any other platform. That is why free versions and paid versions have been so successful thus far for Android because we can try before we buy. Not everyone has the luxury of Century Fox making movies of their games, or millions of bird pillows to boost sales.

What do you guys think? Obviously piracy hurts Android developers, but can it also be a good thing?

For many gamers the entire idea behind the Humble Bundle is not new. For those that have never heard of it or would like to participate on Android we have all the details. Essentially this is a “name your price” for games, and part of the funds go directly to charities, developers and more. Their first round for Android has four excellent games and you’ll save a bundle buying them this way too.

They’ve basically bundled four awesome and extremely popular Android games into one deal and that is our Android Humble Bundle. They are Anomaly WarZone HD, Osmos, Edge, and if you pay enough (just over $5.00) you’ll also get the World of Goo. Buying these games separately would be around $15 or so in the Android Market and even more on PC, for much less you can get all four from Humble Bundle.

What makes this even better is you can choose a large part of your purchase to go directly to charities, or even developers, and then the leftovers can be a tip for Humble. Making this a win-win because you get awesome games and donate to a bigger cause at the same time. Previously this has been exclusive to PC games but it is great to see them expanding to the world of Android. The video below explains it all. Oh and did we mention this is cross platform? That means all these games you’ll also get for your PC, Mac, and Android at the same time — for the same price.

Surely many of you have already seen or played Grand Theft Auto III. Be it back in the day on your Xbox or even recently on a few Android smartphones and tablets as of late. What you haven’t seen is GTAIII on the NVIDIA quad-core powered ASUS Transformer Prime Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet. We decided to give it a try so check it out below.

The update arrived just last night, fixing a few bugs and adding support for the Prime and the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor. They’ve also added tons of new features such as haptic vibration feedback for a more immersive gameplay experience, gamepad and Xperia play control enhancements, and now the option to move game to SD card for those low on space.

The two biggest parts of the update (aside from Prime support) is video and display setting tweaks. Rockstar games added resolution options, visual effects high/med/low, dynamic shadows, and frame lighting options. Not to mention draw distance for phones or tablets that aren’t up to par to play this game. The second being support for Gamestop and others wireless controllers.

I must admit the game is loads of fun on a tablet. I’d previously played on my phone but on the Transformer Prime it was just awesome. Impressive graphics that look sharp and stunning and no lag whatsoever. The game was fluid and I didn’t have any issues on the Prime. The new haptic feedback seems to randomly fire off occasionally (even when not getting shot at or hitting light poles) so that could use a fix in the next update.

From the screenshot above you can clearly see me running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich using the Prime’s built in screenshot feature. Not to mention the awesome place to stand for the photo shoot — Thanks Liberty City Police! If you’ve not tried GTA III for mobile yet I’d highly recommend it. Especially now they’ve added all these new features and support for quad-core tablets.

Watch out for fakes and make sure you get the real deal from the Android Market by clicking the official link below. Good luck and keep those guns a blazing.

While Tower Defense games are hugely successful and loads of fun I can’t help but feel like we have entirely too many. What we have today though is the poplar “tower offense” game called Anomaly Warzone Earth HD from 11 bit studios. This game was extremely successful over on that iOS platform and now it’s finally here where it belongs — on Android.

This game has picked up plenty of traction lately and not just on mobile. It’s currently available on Xbox live and even offered as a PC game so we are getting some intense graphics and awesome gameplay here. Obviously it wont look as it does on the PC side of things but the graphics are rather impressive for Android.

If you are a fan of “tower” type games you’ll want to check this out. It has received its fair share of awards such as Best Mobile Strategy Game from IGN and more from other mobile gaming sites. If the title doesn’t make things clear — this is the opposite of tower defense. Instead you’ll be on the offense throwing waves and waves of tanks into battle and hoping for the best. It’s all about strategy and choosing the right route, squad, and weapons.

Anomaly Warzone Earth HD offers excellent gameplay, an immersive story-like campaign and great graphics to seal the deal. If any of this interests you it’s available today from the Android Market starting at $3.99 so head down to the link after the video below and give it a try. Some are reporting the additional download wont start — give it a try and let us know in the comments below what you think.

For the hundreds of thousands of Minecraft fans in the world of Android we have some good news. While Minecraft came to Android already, this is something different from creator Markus Persson. What we have today is Minicraft — a mini version of the game in 8-bit format for Android made by the same genius that brought us the original. Who’s ready for some fun?

It seems that Minicraft was made in just under 48 hours by Persson himself for a competition in late December. The controls were a bit odd at first and didn’t have save options but this port for Android has added Wii-mote support and game saves. Being a smaller, less complex version of the game it wont consume hours and hours of your life, but it could if you let it.

The game is dead simple and should only take a few hours to complete, making it great for mobile gaming. The theme is to collect items and resources, build objects and in the end defeat the Air Wizard that controls the realm — leaving you alone in the world. If you’ve played Minecraft before then you should be right at home — otherwise the video below should clear up a few questions you may have.

For the Mini or Minecraft fans Persson claims that he has a few more ideas coming soon and is planning to release another game called MiniTale that should be a more complex and involved version of Minicraft since he’s had more than 48 hours to build the game. Stay tuned for more from this awesome little developer.

For all those fans of the 3rd person shooter style game ShadowGun for Android we have some good news. It appears the once iOS exclusive add-on known as ShadowGun: Leftover will soon be headed to the Android Market. So soon that users that have purchased the original should see an update this week.

While we wait for ShadowGun: DeadZone and all the multiplayer action to hit this will have to hold us over. Don’t worry because this brings new levels, games, enemies, bosses and more to keep everyone entertained — and shooting at everything that moves. The new Leftover’s version will bring plenty of new stuff while retaining everything we love about the original.

If you’ve not tried ShadowGun yet we’d highly recommend it as it’s one of our favorite games here at Android Community. If you already play and love the Gears of War type game for Android then check out below for what is coming soon.

Update will include:

    – The story directly follows the events of original Shadowgun
– Free for all original Shadowgun owners
– 4 new levels
– New enemy creature
– New gun
– New type of gaming interaction
– New soundtrack
– Lot of new graphics, animations and cut-scenes
– New and improved content in general (also affects the original Shadowgun)
– New effects such as camera shakes or bullet trails
– New element in the control – Roll (player can now perform rolls)
– Tuned difficulty, weapons and enemies
– Better, more intensive gaming experience

You can pick up ShadowGun from the Android Market link below for $4.99 and if you already own the game expect an update to hit sometime this week — giving you plenty of fun things to enjoy and new enemies to shoot. Aim for the head!

The entire world of mobile gaming has been growing at a huge rate lately especially in Android. With quad-core Tegra 3 devices and HD gaming taking off we are wondering what could be next. Gameloft might have exactly what we’ve been waiting for with in-game chat xbox style for all you Android gamers.

Earlier this month during CES Gameloft quietly announced they’ll be bringing their new in-game chat to multiple games and have kicked things off by offering it with Asphalt 6 — the popular street racer game. Apparently they didn’t shout too loud because we’ve not heard a lot regarding this new level of gaming but are excited to hear more.

We are thrilled to be partnering with Verizon to illustrate the potential of in-game voice chat and multiplayer over the 4G LTE network,” said Baudouin Corman, vice president of Publishing for the Americas at Gameloft. “Gameloft seeks to provide gamers with a complete mobile gaming experience and feels that these features are at the forefront of the platform’s future.”

We are still waiting for Verizon to rollout their voice over 4G LTE services but in the meantime it appears they are ready to use their blazing fast network any way they can — and that includes gaming. Gameloft and Verizon has officially partnered and will soon be allowing trash-talk live in-game with current and future Android releases. Gameloft was showing off their popular racer Asphalt with chat support for up to 3 devices during CES but sadly we missed it.

Being a casual gamer myself and playing old-school shooters like Counter-Strike I understand the need for chat-style play to develop strategy. This could be an awesome improvement to Android gaming moving forward — especially with some of Gameloft’s popular first person shooter games.

For us in the world of Android we might not see or hear about some of the fun games over on that other platform, but occasionally they have some hugely popular games that haven’t quite made their way to Android yet. Take Temple Run for example. It’s been the top iOS game for a few months and has seen over 20 million downloads. I’m happy to report it will be landing on Android next month.

Temple Run is free but still currently the top grossing app on that other platform and has over 7 million players daily that are using in-app purchases or just playing for the sheer fun of it. With Android being the number one smartphone in the world this is a huge market that surely will love this game. It was originally $0.99 cents at launch but the in-app purchases have taken over. Most games like Angry Birds and many others have launched for free on Android and we expect the same to happen here.

With Temple Run you basically play an explorer running through the temples and being constantly chased by things like scary monkeys or other animals. It was designed with smartphones in mind and can be played with just one hand if needed — so this wont feel like a console port while playing and enjoying it. The entire story on how this team of a husband and wife made one of the biggest iOS games as of late, and that it will be landing on Android next month to rule our world is at the source below.

Reminder: Lands for Android on February 9th according to rumors. Who’s excited?

Update: Temple Run will not launch this week, should still come by end of February according to developers. More details available by clicking here.

I’m always looking for new and fun Android games to occupy some time and this looks to be a good one. This is a new tower defense style game that actually takes the aim of first person shooter. Pretty unique idea if you ask me. The graphics might not be the best I’ve seen but gameplay sure looks impressive and quite fun. Check out the video after the break.

The game is called Cannon Legend, and is available now from the Android Market. Giving us an exciting new twist on tower defense it has plenty to offer and should be loads of fun. It’s set in a fantasy-like theme and you sit first person and blast the waves of enemies like most defense games. Here is what you can expect:

- Fully Animated 3d Characters
- 3 Unique Worlds – Each world has it’s own theme. You will have a totally different experience in each world.
- 4 Unique Magic Stones – You will get a magic stone when you defeat a powful boss. Each Magic Stone has it’s own magic power. You can equip it on your cannon and refine your power to a high degree.
- Talent System – More than ten properties you can upgrade to make your cannon more powful.
- Great Replay Value – Unlock survival mode for each campaign mission accomplished.

The unique gameplay along with the “talent system” that basically allows you to level-up and upgrade your cannon weaponry will keep this game exciting for more than just a few minutes. While I love first person shooters controlling them on mobile devices isn’t the easiest of tasks. This looks be blend the two into a fun and worthwhile game. Best part about it — it’s completely free. Hit the market link and give it a try today.

If you’ve been following the increasingly popular set of what Sammy is calling “Samsung Apps” then you’ll be happy to know they’ve added one of the biggest new games for Android to their list. Samsung has teamed up with EA Mobile and are now offering the exciting new shooter Dead Space for Android completely free. Sadly Samsung Apps is not currently available in the states, but many other users worldwide can participate on this one — More details below.

When I saw this I was extremely excited. Who doesn’t like free games? Then I remember that although a large part of Northern America is supported, the US is not. All the information and details are available from SamsungApps.com and you’ll also be able to check their map for eligibility there too.

If you’ve been eying a new game for Android or have been hoping for a deal on Dead Space today is your lucky day. Dead Space is a first person shooter with a little horror twist and was highly popular for PC’s and game consoles. If the video above didn’t get you excited then I don’t think I shooter game for Android will.

For those who can, just open up Samsung Apps and start the download — and enjoy. If you aren’t using Samsung Apps yet feel free to hit the source link below and get started today. They offer tons of other awesome games such as Air Attack, Riptide GP and more all for free. The last EA deal didn’t last long so I’d hurry and download this one if I were you.

The name Will Wright might not ring a bell for many but popular games like The Sims, Sim City and more should all be plenty familiar. Creator Will Wright has recently detailed his newest game, HiveMind and we are now hearing it will also be coming to Android phones and tablets.

With HiveMind the user wont be controlling virtual people and walking around Sims style — instead you’ll be living and playing yourself. He aims to fully bring our real lives into a videogame. The idea sounds a bit scary, but at the same time is quite awesome and I’m looking forward to hearing more details on this unique idea.

Thanks to DroidGamers for the awesome picture this game actually has a lot more to offer than just alternate reality gameplay. HiveMind will be a game of ourselves. Players will be able to interact with our social network site and identities, mobile phones and tablets, twitter, places we visit, other games we play and more will all be integrated into HiveMind.

If this sounds sort of like check-ins you’d be right — but it’s actually highly involved and evolved into a full-fledged game. The idea of virtual reality blending with real life is a scary thought to many I’m sure — not to mention something we’ve seen in plenty of Hollywood movies in the past. The game will customize itself based on the player and obviously things like Facebook integration will be completely opt-in and not required. We are hearing most internet connected devices including smart TV’s will also work for when players watch a big game, or the latest movie.

Privacy will be a huge concern for many so this is getting extra attention and most likely the developers and Will Wright are taking extreme precautionary measures with privacy. We don’t know much about this new game yet, but expect to hear and hopefully see more now that it’s 2012.

When I heard Gameloft was having a mega-sale and would be offering all of their games for Android at a low low price of only $0.99 I got plenty excited for a few. One in particular was Modern Combat 3 — but we quickly realized that new and exciting game wasn’t included since it was just released. Today that has changed.

In case some of you have missed their tweets over on Twitter Gameloft is offering the awesome new shooter Modern Combat 3 for only $0.99 cents today like they have been with all their other games. Sadly the sale is 24 hours only so if you’re looking to get in on the full powered rifle action you’d better hurry. Use those x-mas gift cards or whatever means necessary and get it while it’s hot.

I’m sure you’ve all seen it but just in case you haven’t here is the awesome preview trailer so you know what that dollar will get you.

Worth it? Most definitely. With hours of gameplay, tons of weapons and even multiplayer support you’ll be getting your dollars worth that is for sure. The controls on a small screen might not be the easiest but practice makes perfect and you’ll be able to knock out those “headshots” in no time. Don’t forget to check out a few other awesome Gameloft games like Asphalt 6 or UNO while you’re in the buying mood.

If you’re a frequent PC gamer like me, odds are excellent that you use the Valve’s Steam service constantly. It’s become one of the most popular methods for buying games and connecting with friends over them, to say nothing of the awesome sales on downloadable games that happen most weekends. If you’re tired of checking up on the Steam web store via your Android phone’s browser, there’s a new alternative out there: Steam for Android, from developer IBF Programs.

The app doesn’t really replicate the features of the desktop program, because Steam is a closed system – it’s not altogether unlikely that you’ll see a Valve-produced app at some point, but they’ve got bigger things on their hands at the moment. Like adding more hats to Team Fortress 2. But Steam for Android gets around this by using your public Steam profile to check up on friends and updates. Best of all, it includes a direct line to Steam’s remarkable sales and discounts, with a links to the Steam online store.

All of this is wrapped up in a truly excellent UI – seriously, it’s one of the best presentations I’ve seen for a new Android app in months. I only wish it was easier to get in to. In order to see anything (including the store and discounts) you’ll have to track down the long string of numbers in your Steam profile’s URL, necessitating a jump to a computer or the browser app. But that’s a small complaint, and likely to become optional at some point. For social connections within Steam, there’s just no better way to manage is in Android. If your PC gaming world is Steam powered, go download Steam for Android for free in the Android Market.
