Android Community Weekly: January 28, 2012

We're here with this week's wrap-up to bring a those of you that may have missed a few days back up to speed! Monday, some analytics displayed that an overwhelming amount of US Android users prefer Samsung over any other carrier. It isn't too hard to believe that Samsung is currently the most preferred smartphone brand, as their Galaxy S II line has dominated since it launched. Early on that same day, we saw that Asian cellphone carrier KDDI had incorporated pushed ads into Android's notification bar. I'm sure you will all agree, this clearly crosses the line.

Gameloft’s Modern Combat 3 is just $0.99 for today only

When I heard Gameloft was having a mega-sale and would be offering all of their games for Android at a low low price of only $0.99 I got plenty excited for a few. One in particular was Modern Combat 3 -- but we quickly realized that new and exciting game wasn't included since it was just released. Today that has changed.

You have died of dysentery: Oregon Trail is free on the Android Market

Who among us can't remember crowding around the class Macintosh to watch one lucky kid at a time try to make the journey west to the pixelated promised land in Oregon Trail. Well, probably quite a few of us - those of you who are significantly older or younger than I am, for a start. But I digress. Oregon Trail is back, this time from mobile mega-developer Gameloft, in an updated version for your Android phone or tablet. And it's free.

Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation is now available for Android

Gameloft has just released the extremely impressive looking Modern Combat 3 for Android. We were teased with a few sample videos showing off this quality game back in August and sadly we've had to wait almost a half year to get this game on our Android phones and tablets. Gameloft officially released this first person shooter over the weekend and I'm excited to give it a try.

Gameloft’s Modern Combat 3 trailer takes the war home

Gameloft's Modern Combat Series, you know, the one that totally isn't a popular console game from Activision, is getting its third installment very soon. Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation features new gameplay enhancements and graphics, and Gameloft was kind enough to show off a new trailer for the military shoot-em-up on YouTube. From the look of things, console-quality shoots are very nearly a reality on Android.
