Microsoft looks towards HTC for dual-boot Android and Windows Phone option

Dual-booting Android smartphones are far from common at this point. We have seen some solutions presented, but they are aftermarket and likely only used by the geekier crowd. One dual-boot example includes the MoDaCo.SWITCH which allows HTC One and Galaxy S 4 users to bounce between stock Android and Sense/TouchWiz. Well, if Microsoft has their way, it looks like we may see something with Android and Windows Phone.

HTC One MoDaCo.SWITCH shown in video teaser

Paul O'Brien began teasing something called MoDaCo.SWITCH a short while back and while we saw a bit of detail and a screenshot at that time, there is now a video available. But first, MoDaCo.SWITCH will be available for the HTC One and it will allow users to (as the name would imply) switch. In this case the switch would be between Sense and the Google Play edition.

HTC One ‘Switch’ takes you from Sense to a Google edition

The popular and famed Android modder Paul O'Brien is cooking up something pretty neat for all you HTC One fans and owners. He's calling the new feature the MoDaCo Switch, and it will allow users to seamlessly switch from the stock HTC Sense UI software on the One to vanilla Android. Essentially turning your regular HTC One into the Google Play edition.

Nokia N9 gets Ice Cream Sandwich and Meego dual-boot hack

What's more fun than modding an Android smartphone? Well, lots of things, but one of them is modding a competing smartphone to run Android. There are many who admire Nokia's beautiful hardware and industrial design, but lament its home-grown software (or the Windows Phone 7 platform they're now stuck with). A group of like-minded modders at the NITDroid forums dedicated to bringing Android to Nokia hardware have shown off their latest and certainly greatest project: fully functional Android 4.0 on the MeeGo-powered Nokia N9.

Lenovo LePhone S2 prototype runs Android and Windows Phone 7

We still haven't gotten a proper look at the original LePhone over here in les States, but the successor to Lenovo's smartphone is already in the works. In a curious bit of software engineering, it looks like the phone can run Android and Windows Phone 7 in a dual-boot configuration. This isn't any sort of super feat - modders do this sort of thing for kicks all the time - but it's odd to see two competing platforms running on the same hardware even before an official release.

ViewPad 10 Pro [Close Up]

Whilst sitting in a press conference atop the ViewSonic booth at this weeks Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we were treated to a close look at their upcoming ViewPad 10 Pro. ViewSonic says that this version will effectively replace the ViewPad 10, and that the this new version will be running both Windows 7 and Android. The switch between operating systems will be made with a simple switch, with Windows 7 working primarily, and Android running in virtualization on top.
