Motorola Droid X Gingerbread is rolling out in a “soak test”

Earlier this week we mentioned that the Droid X would be starting the Android Gingerbread 2.3 update Friday the 27th. It looks as if this time the date given has actually came true, sort of. According to sources the OTA update for 2.3.3 Gingerbread is rolling out in what Verizon is calling a "soak test" or a test run to put it plainly. It looks as if a few users are starting to see the updates on their devices.

Android Community Weekly : May 28, 2011

Welcome back to Android Community Weekly! Early this past Monday, details of the HTC Holiday headed for AT&T emerged. Much like the EVO 3D, it is said to sport a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor as well as a qHD display (and just like the Samsung Infuse, it is said to span 4.5”). Also launched this week was AppTap Ads to aid in advertising applications for developers. It will give users an easy to use ad buying tool to track their targeted ads across the net.

DROID X, DROID Pro, DROID2 and Global Gingerbread Update Imminent Says Motorola

Oh you Motorola employees, what you wont say these days. A cool employee over at the Motorola Mobility forums let slip (or was allowed to slip) the fact that an update to Gingerbread was coming soon on essentially ever Droid ever: DROID X, DROID Pro, DROID2 and Global, and that this update will improve Exchange Activesync functionality. This is fabulous news for all Droid folks for more than one reason, obviously, but the Activesync issue being fixed is like some frosting on an already delicious cookie.

Motorola Droid X Gingerbread Update Hinted via Project Invite

It's good to know that even though the DROID X2 is being sent out now, that the original Droid X wont be abandoned. By no means! A message has been sent out to developers and users of this cool classic Droid at Motorola's Mobility forums asking owners of the unit to participate in a project of little detail. This project requires you to go through an enrollment survey and sign a non-disclosure paper so that you don't spill the beans to the world before they do. What could it possible be? Perhaps they'll update their software to X2 proportions?

Motorola Droid X2 Review

We have had a few days with a couple new Android devices lately, they were both sporting 4.3" qHD Displays and boy do they look good. Today we have a few more details and pictures as well as our review of the Motorola Droid X2. We have had our paws on it all weekend and I must say I am impressed so far, from the nice and simple touches to the UI Overlay, all the way down to the hardware (even though its identical to the first Droid X). We have put Verizon's first dual-core beast through a test run and it is time to share our thoughts.

Droid X2 Hands-On and Unboxing [video]

The war is on! It's time for the qHD battle to begin, and it's begun this morning with no less than a HTC Sensation taking on the DROID X2, and wouldn't you know it, we've got both. Let me introduce you to the newest member of the DROID side - DROID X2! This is a Motorola device that appears at first to be ever so slightly different from the DROID X it replaces - will it be too much for those who love new specs to bear? And what about other phone comparisons? Would you like a couple of pics of the DROID X2 next to the G2x? Sure!

How does Google control Android? Skyhook lawsuit reveals the details

The name Skyhook might not ring any bells for some readers, but they are the ones who are suing and filed lawsuits against Google back in September over the use of Skyhook in the Droid X. The Skyhook XPS WiFi and cell tower positioning system was going to be used in the Droid X and was pulled at the last minute at Google's request. The entire Skyhook lawsuit has been on the low as of late, but new documents reveal just how Google goes about removing things like Skyhook from mobile phones, and how they use specific Google applications and guidelines to control Android.

Droid X Gingerbread update approved

Last week, we reported a rumor that a Droid X Gingerbread update could be coming May 13th after being submitted to Verizon several times for approval. The update had originally been slated for an April release, but that slipped since Verizon wanted a few changes before signing off. The word now is that Gingerbread for the Droid X has been approved and will be coming out as an OTA update as early as Friday, May 13th. So while still a rumor, it takes the next giant step out of the shadows.
