Droid Incredible

HTC Forced to Switch to Super TFT LCD From AMOLED Due to Shortages [Update: HTC Plans to Use Both]

The Droid Incredible is still one of Verizon Wireless' most hotly desired devices, and despite the fact the handset is still on back-order, people are still buying them. One of the reasons for that, other than the 1GHz Snapdragon processor under the hood and Android 2.1 with HTC's Sense UI, is the fact that it features a 3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display. We just got a tip that suggests that's not the case anymore.

Droid Eris has been retired, Droid Incredible next?

Android 2.1 may be the last official update to the Eris from Verizon. They have decided to end support of the Eris, it was the launch partner of the original Droid. It’s still possible that HTC may choose to still support the handset but that is highly unlikely. If you want 2.2 on Eris you might want to root it or be satisfied with 2.1.

Droid X Teaser – Video

Here’s another great teaser commercial from Verizon. This time around it features the upcoming Droid X. Like the initial Droid Incredible ads, this quick snippet doesn’t feature the actually phone but it does help build the anticipation of this handset.

Droid Incredible Powers Xbox LIVE on a Bridge [Video]

Ever wanted to take your Xbox LIVE experience somewhere other than your living room? How about a bridge? If that's you, then this video's going to make your day. Even if you've never wanted to play your Xbox 360 from a bridge, fully connected to friends and strangers alike online, this is a pretty awesome set-up. It's great what you can do if you've got the ingenuity -- and time.

Droid Incredible Has Been Rooted

One of the best things about owning an Android device is the ability to gain root access. Sometimes this is an easy process and other times it’s very hard. The Droid Incredible has been a tough nut to crack despite the fact that it is an HTC device and there are many great hackers in the developer community that primary work on modding HTC devices. Finally, the Droid Incredible has been rooted.

Verizon’s Droid Incredible no Longer Available from the Website [Update]

This one's a bit odd. We just got word that the Verizon Droid Incredible by HTC is no longer for sale on the wireless carrier's website. And no, not in the whole "your order is on back-order," kind of way. But, if you find the Droid Incredible by doing a search, you'll come to the splash page that shows off the HTC Sense device. However, once you click the "buy now" button, things get very, very odd.

Android 2.2 for Nexus One in “next few weeks”; HTC update in 2H 2010

So, Android 2.2 Froyo sounds great, has features like WiFi tethering we've been bleating about for months, and is all in all one of the most convincing releases of the platform to-date... when can we get it?  Google were coy about setting precise timescales for the Android 2.2 release yesterday - though they have already pushed out the SDK - but information is gradually seeping out about when your smartphone might get a shot of frozen yoghurt. According to the official Google IO Twitter account, Android 2.2 Froyo will arrive on the Nexus One within the "next few weeks".  As for HTC themselves, they'll apparently be "most likely" offering updates to their 2010 model year handsets, kicking off with the HTC Desire in Europe and the Droid Incredible in the US.  However, no release is expected until the second half of 2010, as they work on polishing HTC Sense for the new OS.
"If your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades. We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can't be more specific yet" HTC
Bad news for T-Mobile G1 owners, however, with the apparent confirmation that the first-generation Android handset won't get an official OS 2.2 update.  However, salvation may be at hand from modder Haykuro who is working on an unofficial G1 ROM.
