Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard about Apple's flamboyant attempts to drag the entire mobile phone industry into its "antennagate" situation. In the mean time though, company's have come out swinging, saying that their devices don't fall into the same shoddy category as Apple's iPhone 4. Motorola was one of those companies, releasing ad campaigns that did their best to deal the Cupertino-based company a blow to the gut, and show potential customers that their handsets don't suffer from any kind of "death grip."
August 12th, the Motorola Droid 2 is getting launched. That's this Thursday, for the record (and if you weren't around a calendar). With that being said, it looks like Best Buy have gone ahead and ruined the whole pricing story, too, and pointed out that the Droid 2 will be available there, for $199 on a new, two-year contract. That's excluding the mail-in rebate, that you'll have to pay at a Verizon corporate store.
We would have put "again" in the title, but we're pretty sure that's been run to the ground by now. Maybe the phone itself has, too. That would be your call, not ours. Here's the Droid 2 leak of the week, this time coming from an internal Verizon InfoManager page. As you can see, and as the title suggests, it's the normal "specifications" sheet that we're all so accustomed to.
At this point, this just needs to be said: this is Verizon's launch for the Droid 2. Yes, we're going to pull some standard Apple fare into this, and just come right out and say that the wireless carrier's "quiet" launch of the Droid 2 hasn't actually been quiet at all. At this point, they don't even need to announce the device. We've already got our release date. We've already got plenty of images and video of the Droid 2, and we already know its specifications. What else would Verizon even need to do?
When it comes to a leak, the best way to get your information is right from the source. And, thanks to some informants within Best Buy, it looks like we've got another flag for the release date of the Motorola Droid 2. You know the one -- it keeps getting leaked all over the place. And, we'll go ahead and say that, while we knew the launch of the Droid 2 was going to be "quiet," considering we're only six days away from its supposed release into the world, it's way too quiet.
Hey, guess what? The Droid 2 is coming. Crazy, right? You didn't even see that one coming, did you? Insane times we live in, folks. As you can see from the images below, that's the Droid 2. From Motorola. The one that's the true successor to the original Droid, and the device that's supposed to be launching on August 12th. Or some time around that, anyway. We don't know when it's launching because Verizon still hasn't officially announced the device.
While the Droid 2 is set to launch with Android 2.2 (whenever that happens), and the original Droid should be getting an OTA update any day this week, we're now just waiting to hear when the Droid X will get its own update. We're still hearing the end of August, which actually only helps that August 12th release date of the Droid 2, but if you want to see what it looks like a little early, go ahead and check out the video below.
At this point, considering the amount of tips we've received to enforce that title up there, and the images that keep reinforcing those rumors and tips, we'll just go ahead and start assuming that the Droid 2 is coming August 12th. No, that's not an official declaration -- it's just an educated guess at this point. (Feel free to interject here, Verizon. Any time now.) This latest slide does add a few interesting points, though.
The Motorola Droid 2 has been leaked all over the place. And, not just the device itself anymore. We've got its full user manual, and even some training materials, too. But you know what we don't have? An official announcement. Anyway, before we digress into something completely irrelevant, we'll just focus on the whole "Droid 2 spotted in the wild" thing.
