have passed the 50 billion downloads mark, and Android doing the same getting to 48 billion as of late. While both numbers are impressive it looks like our good friend Android is beating Apple on the daily.
Christmas Day and the week immediately following it are obviously always going to be big for new device activations, but today we're finding out that the final week in December might just have been the biggest on record for iOS and Android. That's according to analytics firm Flurry, which said today that iOS and Android device activations for Christmas week topped a whopping 50 million. Looks like a bunch of people picked up a shiny new tablet of smartphone in the final week of 2012.
Internet using masses, but as it turns out, it's proving to be quite popular with Android users as well. There are four different BitTorrent apps available for Android devices - BitTorrent beta and µTorrent beta, along with remote apps for both BitTorrent and µTorrent - and collectively they've been downloaded 10 million times. Not bad for a group of apps that only started becoming available just over a year ago.
Google has just issued an update to the Google Play Store. For those that have already received it, you'll quickly notice they've added a few awesome and much awaited for features. We haven't seen an update since August, but today they've started rolling out Google Play Store version 3.9.16 to the masses. Read on below for more details and download links.
Android users have been frequenting the Google Play Store in a big way, with Google announcing that the store has hit 25 billion downloads. That may not seem like a big deal when you remember that the Apple Store hit 25 billion downloads earlier this year, but it's important to keep in mind that back in 2010, the Google Play Store was only at 1 billion downloads. That's a pretty significant jump in user activity (and, by extension, consumer adoption of Android), so it's only fitting that Google kicks off a new promotion to celebrate this milestone.
Temple Run has just announced this addicting game has passed the 100 million downloads mark. That's a big number! In a rather detailed press release and awesome info-graphic (below) they break down how more than 32 million downloads for Android helped them break the 100m milestone.
Angry Birds aren't showing any signs of slowing down. After launching the all new Angry Birds Space in late March, it quickly was downloaded around 50 million times by the end of April. Now just 1 month later those Space birds have reached a huge milestone -- 100 million downloads according to a tweet earlier today by the company.
Google Play Store over the past day or so, and you'll want to get it if you've been having any issues lately. The last update was version 3.5.15 and brought tons of changes and new features. This update rolling out now is only minor and wont change things too much visually like the last update has.
Instagram is now what I'd consider an instant hit classic for the world of Android. With over 30 million users on iOS Instagram launched for Android yesterday and has seen huge download numbers. Overnight Instagram managed to get well over 1 million downloads, and possibly as many as 5 million according to the Google Play Store.
