CyanogenMod 9 hits RC2, Jelly Bean on track with CM10

If you're like me and enjoy flashing the absolute latest and greatest nightly builds of CyanogenMod 9, or now 10 we have some good news. While Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and CM10 is in the works the CyanogenMod team is still hard at work on CM9. Today they've announced CM9 RC2 builds are rolling out and it's as stable as ever. This means official releases are coming very soon.

Between Android 4.1 hitting open source, and the Galaxy Nexus getting updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean things are rocking along here in the world of Android. Now we have some great news to go with it regarding the Samsung Galaxy S III. Those CyanogenMod builds we mentioned a few weeks ago are now full on official nightly builds.

When Google announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean last week at Google IO I'm sure the first thought in most Android fans heads was about when they'll get it. CyanogenMod is one of if not the biggest custom ROM for Android so obviously they have a lot of people asking questions. Today they've confirmed CyanogenMod 10 will be Jelly Bean, and is coming soon.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is one of the most anticipated Android handsets to date, and will probably be one of the best selling too. Today however buyers have another reason to get this awesome phone. Full CyanogenMod 9 support is already here with the team starting up nightly builds last night. Two of my favorite things into one, this should be awesome.

You've probably been enjoying CyanogenMod 9 on your phone or tablet for more than a few months already, but they've only been nightly "experimental" builds -- although seem plenty stable to me. Today however the team from leader @Cyanogen has confirmed they've stopped all changes in what they call a "code freeze" and are preparing the first wave of official release candidate builds of the most popular ROM for Android.

In case you forgot, the team from CyanogenMod recently changed their popular logo and the face of CM with what they are calling CID. This new CyanogenMod ID brand image is here to stay apparently, because today they've announced their new boot animation with the changes included. Check it out after the break.

Today however we are talking about the best of the best, CyanogenMod. The extremely popular CyanogenMod has been installed on over 2 million devices to date, doubling their numbers in the past few months.

Fans of custom ROMs may already know that there's a rewritten version of the standard Android music app coming to CyanogenMod 9. Well, the wait's over, and you can download an alpha version of "Apollo" now. Click here for the APK file - you don't even have to be rooted, just install it via the standard non-Market method. Unfortunately, you still need an ICS device to use it.
