MIUI custom ROM is ready for the Galaxy Nexus

New Galaxy Nexus owners: this is what you waited for. As developer devices, the Nexus phones get pretty much all the desirable custom ROMs out there, and now you can download the popular MIUI ROM for Google's favorite son. Different builds for the GSM and CDMA Galaxy Nexus are available over at XDA, both compiled from the official MIUI source code from popular ROM developer DroidVicious.

Latest HTC Thunderbolt radios leak, try ‘em out now

Verizon's 4G LTE devices tend to be a little finicky - just ask any nearby Galaxy Nexus owner. So when HTC updates the radios for one of its Verizon devices, it behooves the advanced user to try them out. HTC Thunderbolt owners, this one's for you: the folks at XDA have zipped up the latest radio firmware for your phone and posted it in a flash-friendly format. The software itself comes from the latest OTA update, but the radios themselves can be used on any ROM.

Amazon Kindle Fire gets an Ice Cream Sandwich alpha port

More than a few of you are probably running brand new Kindle Fire tablets through the ringer right now, as it's been one of the most popular electronics gifts of the season. But the default Amazon interface isn't really anything to write home about - the Gingerbread-based version of Android is primarily designed to access Amazon's content, with a few apps and web browsing on the side. If you're handy with a bootloader, you can try out an early version of Ice Cream Sandwich on your shiny new 7-inch tablet, courtesy of "bl1nkk" and company at XDA-Developers.

OG Motorola DROID gets an Ice Cream Sandwich port

The original Motorola DROID might be the single most recognized and influential Android phone of them all, due in no small part of Motorola's anti-iPhone marketing campaign. Millions of DROIDs (and Motorola Milestones, the international variant) are still running around, and ROM flashers who still use their 2009 models were probably a little peeved when the CyanogenMod team dropped official support for the phone from CM9 Ice Cream Sandwich. Of course, you can't keep a good ROM developer down: XDA member "kfazz" has created a pre-alpha build of Ice Cream Sandwich for the DROID and posted it for download.

DROID X gets a CyanogenMod 9 ICS port, despite locked bootloader

The DROID X remains one of the most popular models of Android phones on Verizon, and no one who bought one on a contract back in 2010 (like me!) is eligible for an upgrade any time soon. So it's great to see an active modding community around this solid phone, despite Motorola and Verizon's continued stance on a locked bootloader. The latest project from RootzWiki for the venerable DX is a port of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

CyanogenMod for the HP TouchPad reaches Alpha 3.5, delivers better gaming performance

Most of the excitement in the custom ROM world is circling around Ice Cream Sandwich at the moment, but we haven't forgotten about the best tablet deal of the year. In the latest incremental update to the HP TouchPad version of popular custom ROM CyanogenMod 7.2, the team has focused on UI and gaming improvements, allowing the TouchPad to be at least as capable at 3D gaming as a modern mid-range Android smartphone. Alpha version 3.5 is available for download at RootzWiki now.

Logitech Revue owners petition for unlockable bootloader

Google TV has seen better days. After an exciting start, the HTPC platform has been largely ignored by mainstream consumers, and the two hardware launch partners remain the only makers of Google TV devices to date. Logitech's Google TV users remain a small but dedicated lot, and they're growing increasingly frustrated over a lack of support and late updates. In order to have full access to the Revue hardware, a group of owners have petitioned the company to unlock the boootloader, in order to easily and effectively create custom ROMs and other mods.

HTC releases source code for Sensation, Sensation XL, Rhyme, and more

HTC is at it again today and have released the source code for many of their current and recently updates smartphones. It's nice to see that HTC is continuing to honor the GLP terms by offering these releases -- although I'm sure many wish they'd offer them a little faster. The Sensation has been around for a while but at least we finally have access to the code now.

Samsung Galaxy S II test ROM leaks with Ice Cream Sandwich [UPDATE]

What's this? An official Samsung ROM with the most desirable bit of software this holiday season? Someone out there has been a very god little Android modder this year, and if you own the international version of the Galaxy S II, you can take advantage of his or her good fortune. Sammobile got their ans on a leaked version of Ice Cream Sandwich for the SGSII, and the adventurous can flash it at their leisure.

Xiaomi’s MI-One Ice Cream Sandwich build shown on video

If you're a fan of the MIUI family of custom ROMs, you're almost certainly aware of Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi's MI-One, the phone that comes with MIUI pre-installed. Keeping their title as the most mod-friendly manufacturer in the eastern hemisphere, the company is hard at work integrating the Ice Cream Sandwich version of MIUI into its flagship phone. The company showed off a video of their progress on YouTube - see below.
