Drupe manages contacts and communications app you use frequently

Contacts on our smartphones are necessary, but that doesn't mean they're easy to manage or that there are enough apps out there that we have plenty of choices for alternative contact managers. A new app on the block just might change your mind about inefficient and/or boring contact manager. Drupe brings together your contacts and the communications apps that you use to interact with them, and it can be with you wherever you are on your smartphone.

Google releases preview of Contacts update

While other Google products like Gmail, Maps, Hangouts, have been constantly updated with new features or even just bug fixes, some like Google Contacts have been sorely neglected. It's funny because it's one of the most basic things that we use, whether you're on an Android device or you're highly reliant on the whole Google eco-system. Well, they've finally heard our gripes as Google has released a preview of what the Contacts update will now look like.

LinkedIn’s Connected app now available for Android

If you're not really that satisfied with your built-in phonebook or your current contacts app and if a lot of your contacts are on LinkedIn, then this new app is something you can consider being a replacement for the current one you're using. LinkedIn Connected brings more than just the usual functionality of a phonebook and integrates information that your contacts have added to their LinkedIn profile to help you build a better relationship with those you'll be encountering both online and offline.

OmniROM extends contact grouping to external syncing

Our phonebook lists have probably grown so long that the only way to tame these wild beasts would be to corral them into groups. While Android's People contacts app does have that capability, it is limited only to Google's proprietary syncing service or Microsoft Exchange. Ever an advocate of open source solutions, OmniROM has introduced a patch that opens the doors for other external syncing services to get the same functionality.

Gmail now lets you star Contacts as well

Some metaphors or symbols have become so ingrained in our modern psyches that we sometimes start to wonder when they're missing. One such feature, the starring of content to mark them as important or a favorite, has been included in almost all of Google's services save a few. Those exceptions have grown smaller now that Google has brought the feature to Gmail's contacts as well.

Evernote Hello contact manager hits Android

Evernote is branching out from its standard notation/bookmark/link sharing service into something a little more relatable. Today they're launching Evernote Hello, a contact manager that aims to make remembering your contacts much easier with contextual information. The free app builds on Evernote's established services by backing up said contacts in your Evernote account, eliminating that annoying need to send out a Facebook message to tell everyone you lost your phone (not that Android users have to worry there).

Google reminds us of Android’s cloud sync features in latest video

Google's been using cloud services for a long, long time. Way before Google Drive was even in the discussion. In case some of you somehow didn't know this, Google actually syncs your contacts, calender, photos, apps, books, and recently Google Music. While iCloud is new to the game Google's been doing this since Android was a baby. Simply sign into Google or Gmail and all your contacts automatically sync to your new phone. Today they've released a quick video as a reminder of how awesome Android is.

Share Contacts by SMS on your Android Phone [Business Card]

Most of you can probably agree that you have had to do this at one time or another on your Android phone. Get someone a phone number, send your friend or a co-worker someones number and wished there was an easy and simple way for this to happen. Well now you can with Share Contacts by SMS. Instead of trying to copy/paste it, or write the number down or try to remember it in your head. Now you'll never need to do that again.

Google says Facebook contacts sync violates Android TOS

Google has made no secret of its desire to fight Facebook on the social networking scene. Apparently, the latest salvo comes by way of declaring that the Facebook contact sync feature is a violation of the Android TOS. The sync feature in question allows the user to see the Facebook friend contact info next to the Android device contact list.
