Chromecast update bringing volume and stability improvements

One of the perks of the Chromecast is the ease of use. Going along with that is the lack of needing to worry about software updates. In fact, we suspect some Chromecast users never even pay attention to updates. Still, Google does push them. They also detail them on the Chrome Releases blog and this time around there was one item of particular importance.

Chromecast now supports YouTube live streams

Coming without any formal announcement from Google, it has been discovered the Chromecast supports YouTube live streams. There is a catch for Android users though. At this time the live streams appear to be supported only when using a desktop browser. It seems likely to believe Android support is coming, and possibly we'll learn about that when Google offers a more official announcement.

Rhapsody and Napster add Chromecast functionality

Rhapsody and Napster are coming to Chromecast. Rhapsody has announced the duo of Android apps will gain Chromecast functionality soon, with iOS integration coming later. This news rounds out most major music streaming providers with regard to Chromecast support.

AutoCast brings multitasking to Chromecast

Chromecast is great, but when it comes to multitasking, it falls well short. Developer Joao Dias has created a really neat workaround for that shortcoming with AutoCast. using Tasker, AutoCast lets us multitask various things like listening to music while casting pictures. There are even pop-up notifications on your TV screen, making AutoCast a great start to multitasking with Chromecast.

Rdio, Vudu, and Crackle all add Chromecast support

Fans of Chromecast are gtting quite a bit of added functionality today, as three major services have been updated to support the streaming stick. Rdio, Vudu, and Crackle all support streaming via Google’s dongle, nearly eliminating the reasons not to have one. For fans of either or all of the media streaming services, it brings added benefits to your living room as well as your smartphone.

Music Boss Pebble app update adds Chromecast support

Music Boss is an app we took a look at back in December. Essentially, Music Boss will extend upon the basic music control that you get out of the box with the Pebble. The app allows you to launch your current favorite music app from your wrist, and also control that app afterward. More important for today -- Music Boss has recently been updated.

Slingbox to add Chromecast support ‘soon’

Slingbox will soon provide support for Chromecast users. Via their own product forums, a Slingbox employee confirmed they are indeed working on Chromecast support, and will be bringing the functionality “soon”. The addition of Slingbox to Chromecast may seem redundant to some, but the two could work well together in one particula instance.
