FireChat update adds off-grid chatting between Android and iOS

FireChat first arrived back in April. The app came courtesy of Open Garden and served as a method of chatting off-the-grid. FireChat uses Open Garden's mesh networking technology which means users can chat from device to device without any Internet connection. But while that all sounded good -- there was an initial limitation that may have kept some from joining the off-grid message party.

Following a few weeks of being available for iOS, FireChat has been announced for Android. FireChat is an off-the-grid messaging solution courtesy of Open Garden. The app makes use of Open Garden's mesh networking technology which allows users to chat even without any Internet connection or cellular coverage.

BBM 2.1 update adds stickers, group photo sharing, more

BlackBerry began teasing an update for BBM earlier in the month. There were some details offered at the time, however BlackBerry opted to keep any sort of release date a mystery. Well, it seems April 1st was the date they had been waiting for. The latest BBM update brings the app to version 2.1 with new features to include stickers, group image sharing and larger file transfers.

Google Hangouts currently down for many [Updated]

Google is currently showing a "service disruption" for Hangouts. While that may not make the outage any easier, you can take at least take some comfort in knowing you are not the only one with an issue at the moment. A recently updated Apps Status Dashboard page confirms the issues, but has yet to offer anything in terms of when a resolution can be expected.

Russia’s Mail.ru brings email, chat and games to the US as My.com

Arriving with mention of being from Russia with love, Mail.ru has announced a handful of services for the US market. The mix here touches on email, chat and gaming along with a promise of an image editor coming soon. Mail.ru has launched in the US as My.com and the services include myMail, myChat, myGames and as for the coming soon item, myCamera.

BBM for Android screenshots leak as beta group expands

We have yet to see anything further from BlackBerry in terms of the BBM for Android release. Officially speaking BBM for Android is expected to arrive sometime before the end of the summer. As we can tell from the calendar, that means the app may not be arriving in the Play Store until as late as September 21st. But with that in mind, it does appear as if the beta test group has recently been opened up a bit wider.

BBM for Android has yet to arrive. The rumors persist and BlackBerry has previously confirmed that it would be available sometime this summer. The key is to when that arrival will actually happen though. Earlier rumors pointed towards a June 27th launch. That date was tweeted and then deleted by T-Mobile UK. In the meantime, the folks at Blackberry have maintained that summer release.

BlackBerry Messenger for Android coming June 27

BlackBerry Messenger looks like it will be arriving for Android users on June 27th. We have yet to see the official confirmation from BlackBerry, however the June 27th date seems to keep popping up with this latest mention coming from T-Mobile UK. The carrier shared the date on Twitter and in addition to the Android release, it looks like iOS users will also be able to join in on the fun that same day.

BlackBerry looking to have BBM pre-loaded on select Android handsets

BlackBerry Messenger has been confirmed as coming to Android. That news arrived back in mid-May and while there was some initial excitement, that appears to have for the most part gone away. There was a brief mention yesterday suggesting BBM would be launching for Android on June 27th, however even that wasn't meet with much in terms of excitement. For now the June 27th launch date remains unconfirmed, but there appears to be more to this story.
