HP Chromebook 11 charger recall detailed by Google

Google and HP have recently begun the recall process for the Chromebook 11 charger. The charger was one of the reasons this particular Chromebook attracted some attention at launch, it is microUSB and similar to the one you already have for your smartphone or tablet. While HP has yet to say when the Chromebook 11 would return to an available status, there has been some testing done on one of those chargers.

USB PD standard to usher in new era of charging

One of the purposes of standards, at least the good ones, is to codify existing practices, instead of turning a blind eye to what everyone else is doing, even if it wasn't the initial intention. That does seem to be the case here with a new USB PD (Power Delivery) standard that will, in a way, revolutionize something unrelated to the original purpose of USB: charging our electronic devices.
