A Caterpillar is tough. No, I’m not talking about the larva that turns into a beautiful butterfly but the CAT phone that is rugged by construction standards. CAT has recently brought a smartphone to the US in the form of the CAT B15Q.
Caterpillar is synonymous to the construction industry – the world of power vehicles, heavy industrial tools, and heavy work boots (which at some point in time most people wanted a pair of). CAT Phones, a subsidiary of Caterpillar, has been outing rugged smartphones over the years, and this year, at the IFA 2014 in Berlin, it has announced a new rugged smartphone – the Cat S50.
Normally, manufacturers would push out Android updates to existing phones. Not in the case of CAT, or Caterpillar, who is launching almost the same smartphone just for the latest version of Android. The good news is that it does improve some things a bit.
During the show here in Spain for Mobile World Congress an interesting device from the rugged construction company Caterpillar was announced. It isn't their first Android smartphone, but the new CAT B15 could be a good alternative for those out in the field. This is one of those rugged smartphones that actually might be worth taking a look at thanks to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The construction company many will probably know or recognize as CAT has just launched their first ever Android smartphone. This IP67-certified rugged device will be aiming directly at some of the other durable devices competing for the hard at work job such as the Samsung Rugby Smart, or the Motorola Defy. Being waterproof, dust proof, drop resistant and more is this the phone for you? Catarpillar thinks so.
