It looks like there’s more hiding in HTC’s Sense 4.0 than meets the eye. The Chinese gadget enthusiasts at ePrice found that if they paired certain Bluetooth headsets with the HTC One X, they could operate the shutter mechanism on the camera by pressing button combinations on the headset. It’s a useful little trick, and one that’s strangely absent from all the HTC documentation we’ve seen thus far. It’s possible, but not confirmed, that the trick could work with the other HTC One phones as well.

There is a bit of a wrench in the process, though: it appears that the camera requires different button presses from different headsets. An iTech brand A2DP headset required two taps of the Volume Up button, while Plantronics and Jabra headsets required triple-taps of the Dial button. Some rudimentary testing on our own One X with a Motorola Finiti headset didn’t reveal any combination that would activate the shutter – it might not work at all on some headsets.

Regardless of functionality, the idea is a pretty slick one, especially for a phone with a camera as good as the HTC One X has. (Read our review to see how good.) Having a DSLR-style wireless remote shutter for a smartphone is a novel enough idea in itself, but the possibility that it’ll work with something most people have already (or can buy cheaply) is very exciting. Now that the phone’s source code has been published, we hope some enterprising developer will find out how it was done, and perhaps give a little more rhyme and reason to the combinations that work or don’t work.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Kickstarter news for the last few weeks, you’ve no doubt heard about the Pebble, the e-paper Bluetooth watch that’s broken the crowdsourcing record with an incredible $7.9 million raised. The designers have said from the beginning that they intend to allow app development for the watch, which is capable of pairing with Android and iOS devices. The first confirmed developer to take up the challenge is FitnessKepper, whose RunKeeper app has been downloaded millions of times on Android alone.

RunKeeper is exactly what it sounds like: a companion app for runners and joggers. Like many of its competitors, it uses a phone’s GPS sensor to calculate distance, time and speed, in addition to giving educated guesses on heart rate and caloric burn. The app can also map runs, and sends audio cues through a pair of headphones to give directions or instructions. FitnessKeeper is keeping mum on what sort of integration their Pebble app will have, but speed, distance, pace and other remote displays (so you don’t have to pull your phone out of your pocket or strap) seem like obvious additions.

Pebble is working with a handful of chosen developers to bring highlighted apps to market for the watch’s release. There will be an SDK and some sort of app store for the watch itself, but it’ll be several months before the company is ready to let anybody have a go at the software. Unfortunately, the developer donator packages on Kickstarter are already sold out. Android Community has a Pebble with our name on it, so we’ll have plenty of hands-on impressions when the watch launches in the fall.

Yesterday we brought you news of the Pebble smart watch project on Kickstarter, and almost immediately the organizers reached their $100,000 goal. They’ve raised just a bit more than that since then: a million dollars in just a little over 24 hours, and almost 1.5 million at this point. To celebrate thier success, they’re adding …

Yesterday we brought you news of the Pebble smart watch project on Kickstarter, and almost immediately the organizers reached their $100,000 goal. They’ve raised just a bit more than that since then: a million dollars in just a little over 24 hours, and almost 1.5 million at this point. To celebrate thier success, they’re adding in an extra feature. When the watch enters production later this year, it’ll be waterproof. The organizers say that it won’t be a dive watch, but you’ll be able to shower or swim with it without worry.

The Pebble watch takes the Bluetooth smartwatch idea that’s becoming very popular (Sony just released theirs in the US today) and combines it with e-paper, making for a smaller and much more battery-efficient unit. It’s got the standard remote alert functions for calls, texts, emails and the like, plus built-in apps for alarms, custom watch faces, music control, a bike computer and more. And naturally the creators will be publishing an SDK, so you can add even more functions through the planned Android app.

There’s just one compromise to make the Pebble waterproof: instead of the standard MicroUSB port for charging and data, it’ll need a proprietary cable, which the organizers say they will also sell separately. The standard $99 pledge that nets you an early Pebble unit is sold out, but you can still donate/pre-order one starting at $115. Oh, and that early bird special that was limited to 200 backers? Yours truly is one of them, so expect a full review when the Pebble comes out in September.

It never rains, but it pours. Just a day after the intriguing Pebble smart watch got almost instantly funded on Kickstarter, Sony is back in the game with its latest take on the wearable smartphone augmenter. As promised, the SmartWatch that we saw at CES (and which is completely and totally not the underwhelming LiveView watch from last year) is now shipping to the good old US of A. $149.99 gets you a Bluetooth-paired secondary screen for your Android phone, complete with alerts, alarms and other goodies. And yes, the Sony SmartWatch will pair with any Android device regardless of manufacturer.

This is achieved by the SmartWatch app found in the Google Play Store, though some functions also require the LiveWare app as well. These apps allow the SmartWatch to shout out alerts for calls, texts, emails and social networks, but also has “micro apps” that are essentially tiny versions of their Android counterparts for Gmail, RSS, Facebook, etc. There’s not much that the 1.3-inch OLED display can do with just 128 pixels square, but for a quick look at your personal data without bringing your phone out of your pocket, it works.

The $150 price tag is a bit north of the $119 we were told at CES. The electronic housing can be removed from the band for charging, and you can get different colored bands (all rubber) for $20 a pop. Sony says that low usage will last the SmartWatch a week, and SlashGear found that it was nigh impossible to wear the thing out in a single day, so no need to worry about your ticker suddenly refusing to tock.

Smart watches are finally starting to catch on, but unfortunately, they’re all pretty expensive – not to mention bulky. One Kickstarter project aims to change that with a lowered featureset and Kindle-style e-ink technology, bringing both the size and the price down to something a little more manageable. The Pebble watch is currently in the concept stage, but with a Kickstarter campaign that’s nearing completion, it looks like it’l be hitting stores before the end of the year.

There’s nothing ground-breaking about the Pebble watch – it’s actually a little less complex than would-be competitors like the WIMM One and the I’m Watch. But it’s small, stylish (or at least more stylish than alternatives) and its e-ink display should solve the ever-present problem of battery life (7 days). A Bluetooth connection pairs it with Android or iOS for alerts, including caller ID, email and Gmail, calendar events, Facebook and Twitter messages and weather. Text message alerts are exclusive to Android. There will also be an SDK for pairing with other apps or taking advantage of the watch’s accellerometer and vibration motor, and watch faces and watch-specific apps can be distributed through a separate app store. And for you dedicated watch wearers out there, the Pebble works with interchangeable 22mm watch bands.

The campaign has reached over 80% of its $100,000 goal with 37 days remaining, virtually guaranteeing success at this point. It easy to see why: for a $100 commitment you get the Pebble watch when it releases, at a projected retail price of $150. Increased pledges get access to increased rewards, including color choice,s early access to the SDK and more. I’ve already put in my pledge. The campaign is hoping to deliver final hardware by September of this year.

UPDATE: Goal reached! I’ll be waiting patiently for my Pebble watch.

Motorola’s MotoACTV digital watch/pedometer/Dick Tracy cosplay accessory is a pretty neat piece of tech, but it’s somewhat limited by its ability to pair only with Motorola phones. The latest update will fix that oversight, allowing the MotoACTV to pair with and work with all Android devices running 2.1 Eclair or later. Because leveraging your brand should always come second to leveraging your hardware, right, Moto? The update is scheduled to hit the Google Play Store later today.

Also included in the update are a few new features, including scheduled workouts retrievable from the smartphone app and personal fitness tracking without going to the MotoACTV.com website. For those who are tired of hunting and pecking on the device’s tiny screen, you’ll be able to set up a WiFi connection between an access point and the MotoACTV via the Android app. The standard tracking, GPS and syncing features remain untouched, though they’ll probably get a few bugfixes.

This is a smart move from Motorola. While I’m sure there are a few customers who bought Motorola phones specifically to use the MotoACTV, there are probably even more who have declined to buy the $250 add-on device because it won’t work with their non-Motorola phone. The company is taking a page out of Sony’s book – the LiveView Bluetooth watch and the Smart Watch both work with any Android phone you please. Let’s hope the trend continues with the next add-on Android gadget to come out, whatever that might be.

Bluetooth headphones have not become the ubiquitous accessories that I hoped they would years ago. A lot of that’s due to the shortcomings of the standard itself, but it’s got more to due with the fact that the price has remained high. That trend is starting to reverse, however, and the new Tenqa REMXD are just a little pricier than standard earbuds at $39.99. At an impulse-buy price, they’re hard to resist, so we asked Tenqa for a pair to review.

The REMXD headphones use an on-the-ear design; smaller than the “DJ” around-the-ear designs, but not anywhere near as portable as standard earbuds. All the controls rest on the left cup, with a combined Play-Pause button and another Answer-End button for calls. An old-school analog power switch sits next to s rocker that works for both volume and forward-back functions.

On the right cup sits only a 1/8-inch port, which rather cleverly combines charging (via USB cable) and standard audio. When the headphones run out of charge you can plug in an audio cable and keep going. I’ve seen this technique on other headphones, but it’s a nice touch. The construction is solid without being extravagant; the only method of adjustment are tension rods on either side.

Pairing is simple: just turn on the headphones and hold down the Play button to put them in pairing mode. Music functions are a little more tricky. To turn the volume up, you slide the volume knob up and hold, reverse to lower the volume. but to advance a track or go back, you have to tap and release the dial. This isn’t helped by the fact that the dial itself goes into the cup when you press it. Working these controls takes a lot of getting used to, especially when you’re wearing the headphones.

The audio quality is as good as I’ve seen for A2DP, which is to say, good enough. The Bluetooth streaming protocol isn’t really suited for high-fidelity listening, though it’s more than enough for podcasts or audiobooks. The nice thing about the headphone/charging port is that you can switch to wired listening at any time.

Once you do, the large drivers make for loud, clear listening that’s suitable for anything but the most demanding of audiophiles. Bass is a little flat, but at this price that’s nothing to complain about. Standard phone calls are clear through the headphones, though without a microphone boom, callers on the other end of the line may find you a little hard to understand if either of you has a poor signal. You can walk a solid 20-25 feet away from the source before seeing any sort of signal loss.

But easily my favorite feature of the REMXD headphones is the battery life. Bluetooth headsets and headphones generally have plenty of juice, but Tenqa’s choice of a larger form factor gave them plenty of space for a bigger battery. I’ve gone days between charges with constant listening. You could easily go an entire day with regular use, and used sparingly, two or three.

The Tenqa REMXD Bluetooth headphones aren’t amazing in any particular respect. They’re not overly hi-fi or particularly flashy, and the controls take some getting used to. But for forty bucks, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better deal with better sound. Awesome battery life and flexible audio options just sweeten the deal. The REMXD headphones are available in black and white options, from Tenqa’s website or online retailers.

You’ve read these stories before: a previously unknown Android phone has been revealed from its certification listings. This time it’s both the WiFi and Bluetooth certification authorities, and the company asking for its papers is Chinese manufacturer ZTE. There’s just one puzzling thing about this phone: it’s been given the official moniker “ZTE Optimus Barcelona”. Say what?

If you’re wondering why that’s puzzling, let us break it down for you: “Optimus” is the family name given to pretty much every single Android device from LG, one of ZTE’s rivals form South Korea. Every Android-powered phone we’ve seen from LG, with the notable exception of those devices produced in partnership with PRADA, have used “Optimus” somewhere in the title. They appear to be big fans of the Autobots over at LG.

To say that LG would have a problem with ZTE producing a phone with Optimus in the name would be an understatement. It would be the same story for anyone but Samsung making a phone or tablet with “Galaxy” in the name, or anyone but Apple starting a product with the letter “i”. (Or making a tablet that’s vaguely rectangular. Or using anything remotely resembling a lockscreen. Or selling more than a handful of smartphones. Apple’s litigious, is what I’m saying here.) The “Barcelona” moniker is also strange, since we definitely didn’t see this phone at Mobile World Congress. It may indicate a rebranded release on Orange in the UK.

Using a code name for a phone while it’s still in development is pretty common, and we’d be shocked if this particular device made it to market with its current title. But not half as shocked as ZTE’s lawyers about ten minutes later.

Thus far, Android has proven to be a fantastic platform for classic game emulation, especially if your tastes lead you to prefer games made before 1995 or so. But try as we might with grips and even specialized hardware like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, there’s just nothing like a classic game controller, with buttons you can count on one hand and a non-existent approach to ergonomics. ThinkGeek, long-time nostalgia enabler and supplier of geeky tools to the poor and the gentry, intends to make your gaming sessions authentic with the iCade 8-Bitty Bluetooth controller.

If the 8-Bitty looks familiar, congratulations: you are not lacking in a proper classic gaming education. It’s a dead ringer for the original Nintendo Entertainment System controller, with the addition of two extra face buttons and shoulder buttons, so it’ll work with Super NES and Genesis games, too. Most popular Android emulators and many games include support for Bluetooth controllers, and even if they don’t, ThinkGeek is creating an open SDK for developers to make sure. If all else fails, Ice Cream Sandwich includes built-in controller support, so modders should be able to get it to work with just about anything on ICS phones, tablets and ROMs.

The best part? It costs a mere $24, making your nostalgia trip a decidedly economy-class one. For the record, that’s cheaper than popular hack victim the Wii Remote ($40) and probably the SteelSeries Ion as well, whenever it comes to market. While ThinkGeek has a price for the 8-Bitty, they don’t have a timeframe – more’s the pity. Oh well, that’ll give developers more time to get their games ready… and for ThinkGeek to get some more appropriate photos.

Most high-end Android smartphones include some kind of video-out feature, and Ice Cream Sandwich has built-in support for Bluetooth and USB peripherals like mice and keyboards. This naturally means that you could plug in an HDMI cable, connect your keyboard and mouse, and have something similar to a desktop PC. But is it practical? YouTube user Christian Cantrell aimed to find out. He connected his stock, unrooted Galaxy Nexus to a computer monitor with an MHL adapter, connected an Apple keyboard and trackpad, and tried to replicate desktop functions without any hacking or non-standard equipment.

The experience is surprisingly fluid, and helped in no small way by the trackpad replicating a finger touch. a cursor follows your finger around, and the various taps, holds and gestures in Android make a natural transition. Standard navigation buttons get desktop analogs, like the “back” button being replaced with the Escape key. The Alt-Tab function even brings up Android’s native app switcher – nice. Even with everything connected. Cantrell’s phone keeps running as fast as normal.

Obviously the Android interface isn’t meant for a 20-inch screen, but thanks to the Galaxy Nexus’s native 720p display (which is mirrored on both the phone and the monitor) it works surprisingly well. Replacing a desktop browser or document editor technically works, but the mobile interface holds you back when blown up. That said, the increasingly cloud-based nature of Google’s Android apps makes for pretty good integration. Cantrell’s demonstration is a lot more impressive than Motorola’s various Lapdocks – perhaps carrying a couple of cables and a keyboard and finding an unused monitor may be a better solution all around.

When will these Transformer Prime owners get a break? Earlier on we saw severe GPS issues, and now the community is very aware of the random lock-ups so many seem to get after the Android 4.0 update. We haven’t seen any issues with our own models, but that doesn’t disprove the hundreds of posts over in an XDA Developers thread claiming the same obvious problem.

ASUS has responded via Gary Key, technical manager, that a fix will be out sometime at the beginning of February. To top it off, Bluetooth and WiFi are having issues functioning simultaneously as well. Hopefully, the fixes come batched together.

If the Transformer Prime wasn’t so amazingly awesome, then I’d say they were building a poor name for themselves. But you have to take a few factors into consideration; this is the first Tegra 3 quad-core device on the market. There are bound to be a few obstacles the manufacturer isn’t used to working with.

We’ve seen ZTE next-generation 7-inch tablet before, but only as a rounded rectangle courtesy of the FCC. Now Unwired View spotted the ZTE V66 running through the certification gauntlet at Bluetooth SIG. There isn’t much more to report on the Verizon-bound device, except that it’s certainly got Bluetooth. But the spcial interest group was kind enough to throw up a thumbnail of the tablet’s front press shot, which you can see blown up below. While no dates are mentioned, the presence of a finished photo indicates that the tablet is ready for release soon – though not necessarily on Verizon.

The previous leak indicated that the ZTE V66 (likely a codename that will get changed later) will have a 1.2Ghz dual-core processor and a full gig of RAM, paired to an admirably high-res 1200×800 7-inch screen. Honeycomb will have to do as far as software goes, and the photo from Bluetooth SIG certainly reinforces that. Verizon’s 4G LTE connection is packed inside, making the V66 one of only two Verizon LTE 7-inchers we know of – the other being the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

There’s no word on price or availability but ZTE tends to try and undercut its competitors on the tablet side of things. That being the case, and with the Galaxy Tab 7.7 sure to pack a high MSRP thanks to its Super AMOLED display, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the V66 come in around the $300-350 mark. Since the ZTE hardware is also Bluetooth-certified for Europe, it’s likely we’ll get some hands-on time with it in Barcelona next month at Mobile World Congress.

Bluetooth headphones are not the revolution we hoped they’d be way back in the early 2000s. Partly that’s because the A2DP streaming protocol only has so much bandwidth, but mostly it’s because the vast majority of Bluetooth headphones cost much more than most people are willing to spend. Fortunately, the last few years have seen some improvement on that, culminating in a new set of DJ-style over-the-ear cans from small accessory maker Tenqa. The “REMXD” Bluetooth Headphones come in at a wallet-friendly $39, and are scheduled to launch in early February.

The standard A2DP features are present, including integrated playback and volume controls. A microphone is hidden away somewhere inside the plastic casing, so you won’t have to remove the headphones to make or receive calls. A USB cable (hopefully with a standard MiniUSB or MocroUSB port) provides charging, and thanks to the large cups it should last for quite a while. Tenqa’s website claims that the REMXD headphones will go for 22.5 hours of talk time and 280 hours of standby on a 3.4 hour charge – that should mean about 15 hours of music-only streaming.

And the best part? You can plug in a standard headphone cord for good old-fashioned analog listening. This solves a lot of problems all at once: if you should forget your charger on a long trip, you can still connect to your Android phone or tablet; if you want to connect quickly to a non-Bluetooth device or just don’t want to mess with pairing, you can; if you’re in the mood for a more hi-fi experience, the wired connection provides higher-quality sound from the same set of headphones. The Tenqa REMXD Bluetooth Headphones should be arriving at retailers in the next few weeks.

Android gamers get it rough sometimes: since the early days of using WiiMotes and bulky add-ons to replicate a console experience, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play has been the only real solution for those who crave hardware controls. But the dearth of physical controls may be at an end, thanks to gaming accessory company SteelSeries. Known for their mice, mousepads and keyboards, the company is branching out into Android with its Ion Bluetooth controller. A few others have tried, but the Ion looks like the best option yet for serious gaming.

The diminutive hunk of plastic uses the same layout as the PlayStation Dual Shock, and should be familiar enough for anyone who’s played a console game in the last few years. Double joysticks, four face buttons, start, select and two shoulder buttons should be enough for almost everyone, though controlling games through OnLive may get a little tricky. The controller is sized to fit in a pocket. The mock-up in SteelSeries’ photo looks just a little smaller than a Galaxy Nexus. It appears that the controller recharges through the same MicroUSB port as most Android phones – a smart choice.

An Android app will allow players to customize controls for each game, and combined with Ice Cream Sandwich’s built-in support for controllers, should allow almost any button-based game to work. SteelSeries claims that the Ion’s Bluetooth interface makes it compatible with multiple platforms, including PCs. The company hasn’t offered a price yet, but it’s aiming for a second or third quarter 2012 release. Razer, the ball’s in your court.

Battery life is said to be between a day and a week, depend on how heavy your usage is. Control is via various gestures and swipes, and thanks to the watch being Android-based this time – unlike its LiveView predecessor – there should be more flexibility as to what functionality can be added along the line.

Sony expects the SmartWatch to go on sale near the end of Q1, priced at $149.99. It should work with non-Sony/Sony Ericsson devices too, and comes bundled with a clip and a wrist-strap for a choice of how you wear it.

Does the MOTOACTV leave you feeling exhausted? Turned off by the minimal style of the WIMM One? Can’t stop laughing at the buzzword-laden I’m Watch? If you’re looking for some more conventional wearable tech, you might want to give Casio’s latest digital watches a try. TechCrunch reports that the G-Shock GB 6900 will come equiped with a low-power Bluetooth 4.0 module for connecting to your smartphone. The watch is designed to give you at-a-glance alterts for incoming calls, texts an emails, as well as automatic time syncing with the network clock on a connected smartphone.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen minimal Bluetooth functionality integrated into a conventional watch, but Casio’s G-Shock series is popular enough to make it notable. The addition of the low-power functions of Bluetooth 4.0 might make this one of the first wireless watches that you don’t have to charge on a regular basis – a definite improvement over some older, bulkier alternatives. The watch comes in three initial colors, but only wone market: you wont’ be seeing these outside of Japan any time soon.

It’s hard to be too upset about that, considering that they only work with two NEC phones at the moment. Apparently the expanded functionality requires a little extra client software on the smartphone side, and users will need a little savvy to get things started. But there’s a decent chance you’ll be able to buy these watches in non-Asian markets soon enough. Casio’s watch brand has a global presence after all, and they’re not ones to leave a market untapped.

One of the most consistent complaints against phones of all types, including Android superphones favored by most of our readers, is that they have to make due with tiny, weak speakers. That’s not anyone’s fault, really – devices that fit in your pocket with enough technology to make Ray Kurzweil drool have to make some sacrifices. But to rectify this situation, especially when you’re traveling or trying to share music with lots of people, an external speaker of some kind is almost a necessity. Enter Logitech’s Z515, a portable battery-powered Bluetooth speaker that intends to bring big sound in a small and easy-to-move package.

If you’re familiar with Logitech’s desktop speakers, or any of their more expensive products, the Z515 will seem familiar. A metal grate is surrounded by solid-feeling plastic and a hinged kickstand, with minimal controls on the back. For status indicators you get only a power and connection light. A USB receiver and software is also included, if you’d like to connect it to a computer without Bluetooth. The only other way to get sound into the speakers is via a standard 1/8th-inch next to the power jack, though unfortunately, the necessary cable is not included in the box. A simple cloth carrying case rounds out the package.

Upon first opening the Z515, I seriously wondered if Bluetooth connectivity was included at all. There’s no indication of Bluetooth compatibility anywhere on the box or the device itself – not even the trademark “B” rune near the FCC information, where you’d expect it to be. The packaging pronounces that it’s designed for “iPhone and iPad”, and it includes the obvious USB connector that tucks into a slot beneath the kickstand. Feeling somewhat ashamed, I actually broke out the instructions, where Bluetooth pairing was explained: power the device on, then hold the volume up and down buttons. After that, it became simple enough.

The speaker system itself is about the size of a rolled up newspaper, though nowhere near as heavy. It slips into its carrying case easily enough, though you probably won’t need it with the solid build. Throw it in your bag or a jacket pocket and you’re good to go. The sturdy kickstand and metal front leave me with no complaints, and at a full blast I’ve managed to get between 4 and 5 hours of performance. That should be plenty of time for a short roadtrip, and to find an AC outlet at a party.

There’s only three button controls: power, volume up and volume down. That’s well and good, but for a Bluetooth speaker system I would have liked to have seen some playback controls on the unit itself – it’s easy enough to implement via the A2DP protocol. I suppose the idea is that you’ll be carrying your phone or tablet with you for control, and on that count, the extremely reliable connection shines. I was able to walk with my phone to the back door of my home, about 40 feet away from the z515 through three different walls, without the music ever skipping or dropping. That’s easily one of the best A2DP connections I’ve ever seen.

The unit is loud, if not thunderously so. It’ll be more than enough to entertain a full room at a party or get together, but you’d be hard pressed to shake the neighbors’ windows. It managed to fill my living room well enough, which is as well as something this size could be expected to do.

The only real downside to the Z515 is Bluetooth sound quality. It’s good enough for MP3 playback, but audiophiles will be turned off by some shaky highs and fuzzy lows. That’s not really Logitech’s fault: Bluetooth A2DP just doesn’t have enough bandwidth for true hi-fi performance, and you won’t find anything better on other Bluetooth speakers, even something like the much more expensive Philips Fidelio AS851. I’d say it’s about as good as a solid satellite radio signal – it should be fine for Pandora or some medium bitrate MP3s, but anything better simply wouldn’t sound good enough on the Z515. Sure, you could use an audio cable, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a portable, wireless speaker.

As far as value goes, it depends on what you’re looking for. The $99 list price is more than I’d spend on the Z515 myself, but it’s comparable to other portable speaker systems of this quality. However, look around online and you can find the Logitech Z515 in the $75 range, a much more tempting proposition. If you often find yourself traveling and straining to hear music over your phone’s tiny speaker (and don’t want to fiddle with headphones), I’d say it’s a pretty solid investment. It’s certainly the best option among its competitors, with very reliable build quality and performance.

The ASUS Eee Pad MeMo tablet hasn’t received nearly as much publicity as the Transformer Prime, but now we know why. ASUS states the MeMo 7″ tablet will launch January 2012 with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on board. MeMo has been through different hardware and design stages as well, when it formerly appeared with a 3D capable display. They’ve since then scratched that, and will focus more on the paired functionality of the MeMic Bluetooth device to the actual tablet – after all, they do ship together.

The MeMic Bluetooth device can be seen as a wild card really. Not everyone may find it captivating, but it will definitely draw its own crowd. To be successful in todays tablet market that’s really what it takes. With the amount of tablets released monthly, only a few break the barrier to bring something new to the table.

Still no word on an actual price for the duo, but you can expect to see it first on carriers before local store shelves. Considering that ASUS spent so much time on the Transformer Prime, I expect them to do the same with this device as well. They’ll want to make sure Android 4.0 is functioning perfect prior to launch, thus reducing bugs and keeping the ASUS good name.

Be sure to only install this if your Galaxy Nexus is running the I9250XXKK1 / ITL41D ROM. And for now, the installation is not quite as easy as a .zip flash, so read up within the thread for specific instructions – they’re all there. Don’t expect overclocking or anything extraordinary this early in the game, as the device is still just hitting store shelves (and hasn’t even made it to the U.S. yet).

Whether this will work when the LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus appears on Verizon I do not know, but by then I’m sure we’ll have an updated kernel and even a few ROM’s floating around. For the access to the download, click here. And as always – read through the thread if you have any questions. It would be terrible to brick a precious Galaxy Nexus!
