BlackBerry Playbook gets hacked Android Market support
We don't cover the BlackBerry Playbook here on Android Community because, well, it's a BlackBerry. But some recent community mods may change that, at least after a fashion. IntoMobile reports that the latest rage amongst Playbook modders is rooting via a tool called Dingleberry (no comments form the peanut gallery, please). It turns out that if you root the latest version of the Playbook's Beta software, it's possible to use the Android emulator software therein to run just about any Android app you like - including the Android Market and other Google apps.

BlackBerry Mobile Fusion manages corporate assets on Android
RIM is having a tough time right now. They're being squeezed from the top with iOS and from the bottom (well, bottom, top, sides and everywhere else) with Android. But the BlackBerry hardware is only part of RIM's overall business, and they're making a major effort to expand even more into the corporate services space. BlackBerry Mobile Fusion will allow IT managers to access and control company assets on BlackBerry, Android and iOS devices, essentially making the existing Enterprise Server cross-platform.

Do You Live in a Green State?
Forget red and blue states. Mobile advertising firm Jumptap has a lovely infographic that shows us the majority we really care about here, most dominant smartphone OS of course. The chart highlights each state showing whether Android, iOS, or Blackberry is the most dominant (or if there's a tie).

HTC Status Review

HTC Status Review
Welcome to our official Facebook Phone review - at least that's what they'll have you believe if you're in the AT&T store. What I'd bill this phone as is the greatest little keyboard in the West that just so happens to have a Facebook button below it and a display that's just a little bit too small, but certainly bright and sharp. I come from an environment where I basically skipped over the BlackBerry era and went straight to 4-inch and above displays, so keep that in mind when you take this trip with me down Android way on a device that's by no means perfect, but shoot if it isn't pretty looking and nice to hold.

BlackBerry PlayBook Android App Player Beta Leaked

Android Market offers more freebies [study]
According to a new study, the Android Market has passed Apple iTunes in offering more free applications for smartphones and tablets. Google's Android Market offers 134,342 free applications while Apple has about 13,000 fewer. The study also predicts that within five months, the Android Market will be the largest applications store, period, followed by iTunes and the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. What's interesting is that Blackberry, which once dominated the smartphone category is now a distance 4th, only beating out Nokia's Ovi Store.

Nielsen – Users want more Android
According to a recent survey done by AC Nielsen, smartphone users are hungry for more Android. The survey found that users preferred the Bot over both iOS and RIM phones, representing a dramatic shift from a similar survey just ten months ago. The latest figures show that 31 percent of consumers plan to purchase a new Android Smartphone, while 30 percent are looking to get an iPhone. RIM was a distant third with just 11 percent saying they preferred the business oriented handset.

Android Community 101: What is Flash Builder? (4.5)
Behold the great conquerer of world, the great unifier that works better than a big bar of chocolate, or so they're hoping. This is Flash Builder 4.5, a version of the app to build apps that'll soon create standalone Flex AIR apps that'll work on Android, Blackberry, and Apple's iOS, all inside the same framework! What this means, if it's adopted by enough individuals, is that developers are about to have a whole heck of a lot easier time creating cross-platform moneymakers to turn awesome experiences into cash.

Android ousts iPhone as most popular smartphone system in UK says latest survey

Android ousts iPhone as most popular smartphone system in UK says latest survey
It's not just in the US where Android devices are out-selling Apple's iPhone. New research by Intelligent Environments, a digital banking provider, suggests that Android handsets in the UK are more popular than the iPhone, with 28-percent of the people they surveyed having a device running Google's OS. That's compared to 26-percent with an iPhone, and 14-percent with a BlackBerry. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, given Google is currently keeping its more advanced mapping features to itself, navigation and route planning is the most common application Android UK device owners take advantage of. It's worth bearing in mind that the iPhone is just one device, of course, versus multiple OEMs offering handsets running Android. Still, unlike in the US, in the UK the iPhone is currently offered across all of the major carriers, rather than being limited to one network.

BlackBerry Playbook will support Android apps with “app player” [New]
This has just been confirmed. Today RIM announced that they WILL indeed be supporting Android Apps with an optional app player that will be available for download on the Playbook release day. This is big news. According to RIM the Playbook will support both Blackberry Java as well as all the Android apps. This includes native C/C++ development support, HTML5, Flash and AIR support. Also take note that RIM's press release only mentions Android 2.3 apps, so we aren't sure if Android 3.0 Honeycomb apps will work, or will need an update first.
