Chrome Beta for Android update arrives with bug fixes

Google has released the latest Chrome Beta for Android app update. And while this one may not be quite as exciting as the previous update that added support for experimental features, it did bring a handful of bug fixes. Along with the details in terms of the fixes, Google has also offered an update in terms of the known issues. That being said, lets dive in with the more exciting of the two -- the fixes.

Tasker beta reveals cleaner looking UI

While Tasker has been a pretty great app in terms of function, the same was not able to be said about the look and feel. Simply put, Tasker is powerful, but not all that pretty to look at. That being said, while the Google Play Store version will still maintain the same look and feel, there is a new version in the works. And for those who are curious, the updated version of Tasker can be downloaded in beta form.

SugarSync 2.0 for Android beta now available

SugarSync announced the 2.0 beta back in mid-November. Current users have had the option to upgrade to the new (still in beta) versions on the desktop and the web and as of today, you now have the option to run the beta app on your Android handset. The one catch, the app is not yet available from Google Play and instead will need to be downloaded and sideloaded.

CyanogenMod 9 official release candidate builds coming soon

You've probably been enjoying CyanogenMod 9 on your phone or tablet for more than a few months already, but they've only been nightly "experimental" builds -- although seem plenty stable to me. Today however the team from leader @Cyanogen has confirmed they've stopped all changes in what they call a "code freeze" and are preparing the first wave of official release candidate builds of the most popular ROM for Android.

MIUI for the HP TouchPad enters beta, download it now

Though it's almost impossible to find an HP TouchPad at this point (at a reasonable price, anyway) the Android mod community is still rolling full steam ahead on the abandoned platform. Though the MIUI version of Android isn't as far along as CyanogenMod 7 for the TouchPad, it's reached the beta stage first, aftera short alpha introductory period. You can download MIUI for the TouchPad over at RootzWiki.

Swiftkey X Beta brings better tablet support, we go hands-on

With its advanced text prediction and easily theme-friendly interface, Swiftkey X is the software keyboard of choice for a lot of Android users. Developer TouchType sent us the new beta for Swiftkey X, in both smartphone and tablet versions. We couldn't resist trying it out. The most important new feature is the ability to customize the height of the keys themselves. Take a look:

BBC Micro emulator Beebdroid beta available now

Those of you with a penchant for old computers or video game consoles know that Android makes a great emulation platform. Now you can add the BBC Micro to the list of supported virtual systems. Developer Little Fluffy Toys, Ltd has released the first publicly available version of Beebdroid as a side-load app, with an Android Market release expected sometime in the future.
