The one thing I want from the Galaxy S III

Working for an Android blog has lately meant looking forward to a single device: the Samsung Galaxy S III. Samsung has gone to extraordinary measures to keep its design and features secret, and as a result we've got almost nothing beyond rumors and speculation to go on. But since the Galaxy line has done phenomenally so far, we can't help but have expectations - after all, odds are pretty good that no matter what Samsung reveals on May 3rd, it'll wind up in the pockets of tens of millions of Android users all over the world.

HTC One X software mod grants up to 20% better battery

The HTC One X is pretty great, but its 1800mAh battery (not unlike the one on the Galaxy Nexus) is only OK. It turns out that HTC itself made something of an error in judgement when putting together that shiny new software. Due to an errant APK location, the native NVIDIA power control app (you know, the thing that makes that magical "5th core" work to save all that battery life) wasn't working properly. HTC should have a fix out soon enough, but in the meantime, the fellows at XDA have a fix for you.

Mugen Power 3900 mAh Galaxy Nexus extended battery review

Battery life of smartphones is something we all wish was better. Especially ones like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus with a huge screen and 4G LTE. Last week I had the pleasure to test the Mugen Power extended battery for the Galaxy Nexus coming in at 3900 mAh -- a huge improvement over the stock 1750 mAh battery. I wanted to see if it would last the entire weekend. Read on below for my full results and plenty of pictures.

Chrysler adds wireless charging to the 2013 Dodge Dart

Wireless charging is still something that hasn't fully caught on in the mobile market. While the idea and technology is impressive, still being required to have a set destination for the device is where the problem is. While I wait for a truly wireless charging solution for my Android phone, Chrysler is bringing the current options to their 2013 line-up.

HTC One X shows NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 is a battery’s best friend

Starting today and all of this week we're getting our first look at the new HTC One series of smartphones. Starting with the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core powered HTC One X, and then the equally impressive One S with the dual-core Qualcomm S4 Krait processor. We've reviewed them both here at Android Community and will link to them below, but what we were impressed with (among many things) was the battery life and conservation.

Qualcomm Snapdragon phone goes around the world on a single charge [Video]

Qualcomm is back this month with another interesting video showing off the power of their Snapdragon powered smartphones. Last year they released a video showing a Snapdragon processor being powered by a bug circus, as in real live bugs and spiders. This time around they tease the efficiency of the Qualcomm Snapdragon by sending a smartphone around the world on a single charge.

Modder gives DROID RAZR a battery transplant for a home-made RAZR MAXX

There's more than a few early adopters of the Motorola DROID RAZR who felt miffed after Verizon unveiled the DROID RAZR MAXX at CES, just a couple of months after the original was released. As noted in our review, the hardware is staggeringly similar and the software is actually identical - literally the only difference is a slightly extended body to allow more room for the massive 3300mAh battery. So one XDA developer member did what those fellows do best ,and took apart both a DROID RAZR and the RAZR MAXX, swapped the batteries and the back half of the housing, and turned them on.

Motorola's DROID RAZR (just the RAZR for international users) is every bit the leap forward in phone aesthetics as the original RAZR was way back in the day. But it's a hollow victory: despite the shocking thinness and jet fighter style, the RAZR does little to rise above its contemporaries in actual hardware capability or utility. Enter the DROID RAZR MAXX, a very slightly adjusted version with an extra millimeter or two and a battery capacity that nearly doubles the original, released just two months after for the same price on Verizon. So the question for new buyers is: form or function?

Sony XPERIA S to have anti-stain and fast charging features

We may have gone hands-on with the Sony XPERIA S at CES, but who would have known the device had a few hidden features? The XPERIA S will likely come with a stain-proof exterior. Stain-proof defined means the device will be dirt repellant, and UV Active. We assume the next generation of Samsung smartphones are considering a waterproof coating in their final design. Which would you prefer?
