Android tablet market share jumps to nearly 62%

Gartner has released their statistics on global tablet sales, showing Android to be the superior platform. The market share for the platform rose to 61.9% globally in 2013, up from 45.8% in 2012. Across the board, sales were up for all platforms, but iOS saw a sharp decline in market share.

Two new Lenovo tablets pass through FCC

The FCC has approved two new Lenovo tablets, the A5500 and A7600. Though light on details, there is some info available for the A5500. We can hopefully glean some idea of what the other will offer comparatively, but it’s still early days for these two.

Acer Tab 7 hits China, beats the B1 in testing

Acer, who is no stranger to low cost devices, may have outdone themselves. Released in China, their new Tab 7 checks in at around $99. Though you might not expect much from a $99 tablet, this one has some interesting benchmarks, which could make it more desirable than their B1, available stateside. Of course, there is a good chance we won't get the option.

Samsung may be bringing AMOLED screens back to their tablet lineup

At one time, Samsung tablets were AMOLED, the popular display technology present on their smartphones. Recently, Samsung has moved away form that technology for tablets, instead opting to utilize LCD panels. A new report out of Korea suggests they may be getting back to center, and putting AMOLED back on the tablet map.

What is the best tablet for gaming? That’s subjective, of course, but a new study shows it may not be the device you think. While most still turn to iOS for gaming, the Android realm is catching up quickly. While we focus on tablets like the Nexus 7, we’re way off base. In fact, we’re not even acknowledging the people’s choice.
